Foreword

Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,

As we conclude the final week of Term 2 and prepare to head into a well-deserved mid year break, it’s a pleasure to reflect on what has been a rewarding and meaningful week across our campuses.

This week we proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week, recognising and honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our students engaged in a range of activities centred on this year’s theme, ‘the next generation - strength, vision and legacy’, deepening their appreciation for the stories and traditions that enrich our community.

A personal highlight for me was welcoming our Kindergarten students to the Mahers Lane campus for a visit to my office. Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and delightful questions brought such joy to the morning. It was a pleasure to share a little about what I do each day, and to see the awe and wonder as they explored their “big school”.

On Monday evening, our Junior School Twilight Concert was a beautiful celebration of talent, teamwork, and musical growth. It was heartening to see our students take the stage with such confidence and joy. Thank you to our music staff and families for your continued support of the performing arts at Lindisfarne.

Tuesday evening was another memorable occasion as we welcomed our newest inductees into the Matt Fydler Sports Academy for 2025. It was inspiring to see such passion, commitment, and potential among these young athletes, and I thank our Sports Department for their ongoing dedication to developing student excellence on and off the field.

Wednesday morning’s Green Market at our Sunshine Avenue campus was a lively and meaningful event. In line with our commitment to sustainability and “Caring for Country,” students and families gathered to learn, share, and celebrate environmentally conscious living. Well done to everyone involved in bringing this market to life.

Later that day, I had the pleasure of cheering on our U15 Girls Soccer team in the regional finals, and what a match it was! Played on our home ground, it was a thrilling display of skill, determination, and teamwork. Congratulations to all the players and coaches for such a brilliant effort. The girls won 6-1 and are now off to the NSW Final 16 and Quarter finals.

To round out the week, our Athletics Carnivals were held over two days, a spectacular celebration of energy, colour, and House spirit. A heartfelt thank you to all of our staff, teachers, sports department, grounds crew, bus drivers team, and food services team, for making this event such a success. It was an incredible atmosphere, with students giving their best and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

This Saturday, we send our very best wishes to the students and staff heading off on the annual Ski Trip to Perisher. May it be a safe, exciting, and memorable adventure on the slopes!

I also wish our Kokoda teams well for when they take on the annual Kokoda challenge on the final weekend of the school holidays in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

As we head into the break, whether you’re travelling, relaxing at home, or simply enjoying a change of routine, I hope these next few weeks bring rest, reflection, and quality time with loved ones. Thank you for your ongoing support throughout this semester. We look forward to welcoming students back for the start of Semester 2 on Monday, 21 July.

Warm regards,

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Guardians,

We are all so very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school community as Lindisfarne!

Our School offers our students so many opportunities to grow and flourish - to become all they can be.

However, one of the tendencies is that with so many options, our young people can try to do everything on offer and in the process they can overload themselves - whether it be Academics, or Sports, or the Arts, or all of the above, along with activities outside of school.

In speaking with students under the pump and from my own observations, I’ve become acutely aware that this is an issue for quite a number of our students.

My advice, therefore, is that it if you’re child is feeling overwhelmed with all the opportunities they have embraced then encourage them to sit down and write them down and to mark them from the most important to the least and when it comes to assessments to record them in order of when they are due to prioritise.

This will help them feel less overwhelmed and more able to tackle what is in front of them in the right order.

And when they find this hard to do because of the feeling of being overwhelmed, then just remind them that yesterday they worried about tomorrow, but now that day is today, and hey, they’re okay!

To help you to do this, it is worth noting that the Bible actually has two ways to measure time - chronos and kairos. Chronos refers to chronological time, tick-tock tick-tock goes the clock, whereas kairos refers to the opportune time or the right moment. And so chronos measures time by minutes, whereas kairos measures time by moments.

It is here that we can learn a lot from our indigenous brothers and sisters, who, like many other ancient cultures, are far better at living in the present moment than we are used to, due to the hustle and bustle of our modern western culture as we rush from one thing to the next.

Our students have now arrived at a well-earned mid-year three-week break.

My advice to all our young people is to take this time to rest and rejuvenate. To enjoy time with friends and family so that they feel refreshed and ready to go for the second semester.

Well done to all our students, all they have achieved so far this year. Please know that we are here to help them through the challenges of next semester as they arise, so please encourage them to reach out when they feel overwhelmed, and we’ll help them in any way we can.

Blessings,

Reverend Lyndon

Walking for Hope Vale

Thank you for supporting Hope Walk - Walking for Hope Vale

A party of about 50 hardy souls walked from Tweed Heads through Kingscliff to Pottsville last Saturday, 21 June, to raise funds to send a student from Hope Vale to a boarding school to obtain a secondary education. Education beyond Primary School is not available in Hope Vale, which is in far north Queensland, just above Cooktown. Our School’s visit to Hope Vale last Easter holiday raised a concern for the indigenous population and the lack of secondary education.

The ‘Hope Walkers’ included students and staff from Lindisfarne, parents and parishioners from the Tweed Anglican parishes. They braved the showery conditions and kept soldiering on to manage the walk in just over 6 hours, 40,000 steps, and 38 km (with a couple of stops).

The Reverend Dway led the group of 33 ‘Hope Walkers’ from St Cuthbert’s to St James, where he passed the baton to The Reverend Constantine, who led 21 people from Kingscliff to Pottsville. The ‘Hope Walkers’ were welcomed to St James for a break with a scrumptious morning tea provided by Marg Dephoff, Chris Parson, and Terry & Jenny McNellee. After a much-needed break, the group set off from Kingscliff to the Pottsville community Garden and were welcomed by a very well set-up BBQ organised by Brian and Jennie Wyver – thank you, Brian and Jennie! The greaseless sausages and rissoles (supplied by our friendly local Pottsville butcher) on a piece of bread with lashings of tomato sauce were greatly appreciated. They warmed the damp souls even though they had sore soles! The bottled water assuaged thirst and was also greatly appreciated.

At last count today, $11,220 has been raised for this project, and the total will keep rising towards the target. Congratulations to all involved on beginning a very successful fundraiser. If you would like to contribute, use this link: https://gofund.me/acbe1b37

Thank you for your continued support.

Our Hosting Models at Lindisfarne

At Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School, we operate several models of international hosting to support the variety of programs and partnerships we engage in globally:

Short to Long-Term Homestay (Paid Hosting via Homestay Provider)

Through our partnerships with StudyMatch and the Australian Homestay Network (AHN), families may host international students who enrol for an extended period at Lindisfarne. These placements are arranged on a contracted, paid basis and typically involve students enrolled in long-term study programs at the school.

Voluntary Hosting (Sister School and Friendship School Exchanges)

Our most inclusive and enriching hosting model invites Lindisfarne families to voluntarily welcome students from our network of sister and friendship schools across the globe. These visits focus on building enduring global connections, often with opportunities for future reciprocal visits by Lindisfarne students. Current partnerships include schools in:

  • India (Kerala) - Pallikoodam

  • China (Hangzhou and Suzhou) - Hangzhou Wenlan Middle School, Hangzhou Wenlan High School, Kunshan Bacheng Senior High School

  • Japan (Tokyo, Shizuoka, Hokkaido, Nabari) - Aoyama Junior High School, Nabari Seihou High School, Chitoku High School, Hokkaido Australia Society

We are immensely grateful to the many families who have generously opened their homes in recent years, creating life-changing opportunities for both visitors and hosts.

Upcoming Hosting Opportunities

We are excited to announce several upcoming visits in Semester 2, 2025, and warmly invite your family to consider participating:

Aoyama Gakuin Junior High School (Friendship School, Tokyo, Japan)

  • Volunteer Opportunity

  • 4 August – 11 August

  • Visitors approx 13-15 yrs old

As these partnerships grow, we are excited to explore opportunities for reciprocal visits by Lindisfarne students to these schools in the future, whether as individuals or part of organised group tours.

Why Host?

  • Cultural Exchange: Experience diverse cultures, languages and traditions in your own home.

  • Friendships: Build long-lasting international friendships.

  • Educational Benefit: Provide your family and children with a broadened global perspective.

  • Reciprocity: Students from host families will often receive priority for participation in future overseas trips.

What’s Involved?

  • Provide a safe, welcoming home environment.

  • Include the visiting student in daily routines and family activities.

  • Offer support and encouragement as they engage with our school and community.

  • Most visits are short-term, ranging from a few days to several weeks.

  • Full support and guidance are provided by the Lindisfarne International team.

Your generosity and hospitality are what make these international programs so special. Whether this will be your first time hosting or you are a returning host family, we sincerely thank you for your interest and support.

Head of Junior School

As Semester 1 draws to a close, we reflect on what has been a truly outstanding start to the 2025 school year in our Junior School with immense pride and gratitude. Across all areas of school life - academics, sport, service and leadership - our students have demonstrated dedication, enthusiasm and a wonderful commitment to our school values.

A true highlight of the semester was our sensational Junior School production of Finding Nemo Jr. This spectacular showcase of colour, talent, and teamwork left the audience dazzled. From the vibrantly crafted costumes and polished choreography to the brilliant singing and heartfelt performances, our students shone brightly under the lights. Equally deserving of celebration are the many staff members who brought their passion, creativity and tireless energy to this project. Finding Nemo Jr. was more than a performance; it was undoubtedly a celebration of what’s possible when amazing people come together to provide amazing students with amazing opportunities. Thank you to everyone involved for creating a memory our community will treasure for years to come.

Today we enjoyed a fantastic K–6 Athletics Carnival; a day filled with sporting competition, House spirit and lots of fun! Our students gave their best effort across a variety of events, and it was wonderful to see such strong participation, encouragement and enthusiasm from every year level. A big thank you to all of our staff for their support and involvement in making the day so enjoyable. Special thanks to Mr Damien Clucas and the Sports Department for their outstanding organisation, and to Mr Nathan Croft for his energy and dedication in preparing both students and staff for today’s big event.

Our students have had a rich and diverse array of experiences this semester. The Year 4 Camp provided opportunities for challenge, resilience and teamwork in a beautiful outdoor setting. The Speech Choir and various Eisteddfod performances highlighted the confidence and communication skills of our students, while the Kindy excursion to Mahers Lane just last week was filled with wonder and learning as our youngest learners explored new surroundings. Each of these activities, and many more throughout the semester, play a vital role in the holistic development of our students. They build confidence, encourage creativity, nurture friendships and help young people grow in ways that extend far beyond academic results.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to welcome two international pre-service teachers to our Junior School community in Term 3. Carolina Correa Ruiz-Tagle and Olguita Guzman will be joining us from Santiago, Chile, where they are completing their Education degrees in Bilingual Primary Education at the University of the Andes. They will undertake their final practicum teaching block at our Sunshine Avenue campus. Carolina and Olguita are just as excited to be joining us as we are to welcome them into our learning community. We know our students and staff will benefit greatly from their presence and perspectives, and we look forward to sharing this enriching cross-cultural experience.

Today, Semester 1 Report Cards will be sent home. These reports provide a point-in-time summary of each child’s academic progress as well as their commitment to the values and expectations of our school. Having read a large number of these reports, I am truly impressed by the achievements of our students and, even more so, by the way they have approached their learning, with curiosity, resilience and a willingness to try their best. Parents, I encourage you to celebrate these achievements with your child and continue the conversation about learning at home.

None of this would be possible without the passion and professionalism of our Junior School staff. I am incredibly grateful for the way our teachers go about creating exciting opportunities for our students. Whether it’s on the stage, the sports field, at camp, in the classroom or in the community, our staff inspire our students to be the best version of themselves.

As communicated previously, there will be a staffing change in 3MR at the end of this term. We thank Ms Kirra Manning for her service and care in her time with us this semester. Ms Manning has concluded her contract ahead of the return from maternity leave of Mrs Jessica Nixon. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Nixon back into the classroom in Term 3, and thank Ms Manning once again for her contributions to 3MR and the wider Junior School community. Additionally, Jo Hetherington will be returning from leave in Term 3. Our thanks also go to Melissa McCabe for her excellent work and leadership as Acting Director of Early Learning throughout Term 2.

On behalf of the Junior School team, thank you for your support throughout Semester 1. We wish you all a restful and safe holiday break, and we look forward to an exciting and inspiring start to Semester 2.

From Garden to Market

A Creative Term in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

This term, the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program has been buzzing with creativity, curiosity and collaboration. Across the Junior School, students immersed themselves in hands-on learning that blended gardening, cooking, science and the arts.

In the garden, the children prepared beds, planted winter crops, and tended to herbs, vegetables and companion flowers. These efforts have flowed into the kitchen, where students continued to widen their culinary repertoire with both sweet and savoury recipes, incorporating a range of new skills. Many thanks to parents and grandparents for helping out with our kitchen activities.

Our Caring for Country Green Market preparations also inspired a range of projects. Young artists experimented with vegetable printing on calico bags and botanical drawing inspired by the garden. These beautiful creations reflect the colours, textures and life found in our outdoor learning space.

Science has been a strong focus, with Year 3 students making bioplastic suncatchers using garden flowers and gelatine, while Year 4 explored photosynthesis through engaging games and large-scale outdoor diagrams. Year 1 students connected with the science of energy by constructing wind chimes, learning how wind energy can move objects.

Through this rich and varied program, students are not only learning about sustainability and food production but also expressing their creativity and deepening their understanding of science and the natural world.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations at the Junior School

Jingeriwalla!

This week we proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week across the Junior School, beginning with a moving whole-school assembly on Monday. The week was opened with a traditional smoking ceremony, led with generosity and care by Shannon Kitchener, Uncle Victor Slockee and Uncle Garry Kafoa. Lacey Weston gave a thoughtful Acknowledgement of Country, followed by student interviews led by Charlea Kafoa and Taylah Coonan, who encouraged us all to reflect more deeply on this year’s theme.

Throughout the week, students engaged in rich learning experiences that deepened their understanding of culture and Country. Year 3 and 4 explored the importance of place, learning about our local area and using iconology to tell stories in meaningful ways. They also discussed the significance of yarning circles with Mrs Gypsy Togo.

Students in Years 1 and 2 participated in Indigenous games, guided by Mrs Rachel Mead and Mrs Dana Dowker, enjoying hands-on activities that brought tradition, language and collaboration to life. Our Preschool students, as always, led the way with curiosity and joy, celebrating through story, cultural exploration and music.

On Wednesday Mrs Kathryn Leary, Mrs Melissa McCabe and Mrs Michelle Donohue ran our Caring for Country Market selling produce grown in our school gardens and baked goods created by our students. Our Bush Preschool students created shell mobiles that were a hit, selling out very quickly.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Gypsy Togo for her ongoing work and commitment, helping us embed these valuable cultural experiences into the everyday lives and learning of our students.

Kindergarten Mahers Lane Excursion – A Day to Remember!

What an incredible day our students had on their excursion to the Mahers Lane campus! Despite the light drizzle throughout the day, the excitement and energy never wavered.

Our adventure began with a special Acknowledgement of Country and a prayer in the chapel, thoughtfully led by Reverend Lyndon. Mr Marquardt then warmly welcomed us to the campus before inviting us into his office to admire the stunning ocean view. We had a look at all of his special things and even tried out the comfy sofa, where he admitted to having a nap once! Shhh!

A definite highlight came early with a treat of freshly baked choc chip cookies from the canteen – a delicious surprise that brought big smiles all around! From there, we made our way to the library to enjoy a story with Lily, our year 11 friend, and some quiet colouring, followed by the thrilling ride down the big red slide to the Agri-garden. Even the Mummy helpers were brave enough to try it!

At the garden, students had the joy of hand feeding the adorable calves, Cookies and Cream, planting their very own sunflower seeds and squawking at the chickens. This experience was made even more memorable by the steady drizzle and muddy puddles. It took oodles of self control not to splash in those puddles!

Next, we let off some steam at the Adventure playground, climbing aboard the pirate ship before enjoying a picnic lunch wherever we could find a dry spot. Our final rotation took us to the woodwork rooms, where the children sanded wooden plaques, watched the laser cutter in action, and even tried their hand at using a drill!

It was a joyful and enriching way to finish off our final week of term. A heartfelt thank you goes to our wonderful Mummy and Nana helpers – your support made this day possible. We’re sure there were some very happy (and tired!) little ones that evening!

The Round Square Heroes of Discovery

As Term 2 comes to a close, we reflect on the values, character, and creativity that have shaped our hero journey over the past 9 weeks. This term, our spotlight shone brightly on three extraordinary Heroes of Discovery: Compassionate Carlos, Tenacious Tino, and Inventive Idris.

These heroes have not only decorated our walls and assemblies but have impacted the hearts and minds of our students. Through Carlos, students embraced empathy and kindness. Tino inspired us to persevere through challenges with resilience and grit. Idris sparked imagination and encouraged students to think outside the box, embracing innovation in their daily learning.

But that’s not all, we are thrilled to announce that we have a world champion in our midst!

Congratulations to Avalon Tobin, who has achieved 1st place in the Under 11’s category of the Round Square Sidekick Writing Competition. This is a remarkable achievement on the international stage, and we couldn’t be prouder of Avalon’s creativity, expression, and storytelling talent.

We also extend a big congratulations to all of the students who entered the competition. Your contributions are invaluable and help shape the positive reputation of our amazing school community. You have each set a shining example of what can be accomplished through dedication and creativity.

Looking ahead to Term 3, we are excited to continue celebrating our young writers. As part of a special project, we’ll be turning a selection of the writing competition entries into digital books to be shared with all classes across the Junior School. This initiative will allow students to inspire and learn from one another, while giving their voices a platform to shine within our community.

As we head into a well earned break, we do so knowing our Junior School is filled with compassionate, tenacious, and inventive young minds ready to continue discovering and making a difference.

DiscoverEd Hunters and Gatherers Visit Malosi Lures for Hands-On Workshop

Last week, the DiscoverEd Hunters and Gatherers group had the exciting opportunity to visit Malosi Lures headquarters for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of handmade fishing lures. Students were welcomed into the heart of the business, where they learned about the origins of the company and the journey from concept to creation.

Throughout the day, students engaged in a variety of activities, including discussions about the design process, material selection, manufacturing techniques, and finishing methods used to produce high-quality, locally made lures. The hands-on nature of the workshop sparked enthusiasm and curiosity, with many students expressing interest in applying what they learned to their own creative projects.

The group is to be commended for their exemplary behaviour and display of Lindisfarne’s school values while off campus. Their respectful conduct and eagerness to learn were noted by workshop facilitators.

In support of this partnership, Malosi Lures is offering a 20% discount to the LAGS community for the month of June. Simply use the code LINDISFARNE at checkout when purchasing through the Malosi Lures website.

We hope this experience inspires our students to continue exploring design, innovation, and craftsmanship well beyond the classroom.

      Senior School

      Head of Senior School

As we come to the close of Term 2, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on some of the events and experiences that have contributed to the strong sense of community and culture within the Senior School.

On Thursday, we held our Secondary Athletics Carnival at Kingscliff. It was fantastic to see so many students fully embrace the spirit of the day, competing with passion and pride for their Houses. The sun was shining (even if the wind had a bite to it!), and the atmosphere was one of celebration. Events like these are vital in reinforcing our shared values and deepening our collective culture. While it was heartening to see strong attendance, there is still more work to be done in helping all families understand the importance of full participation in these whole-school events. I look forward to seeing even greater engagement in 2026 and beyond.

This weekend, a number of our Year 11 students will depart for our much-anticipated annual ski trip. This has become a true rite of passage for our senior students. I would like to thank Mrs Cathy Myers and the dedicated staff team accompanying the group. Many of them are giving up time with their own families to make this experience possible. This year marks a shift in accommodation from the Perisher Valley to the heart of Smiggins Hole. This change promises even more time on the slopes. We are hoping for fresh snow and bluebird days ahead.

For many of our students and their families, the next three weeks will provide a well-earned opportunity for rest and renewal. However, for our Year 12 students, this holiday period will include a good measure of study and preparation for the upcoming Trial HSC examinations. We are running a comprehensive program of holiday workshops throughout the break. I extend my sincere thanks to the staff who will be giving up their time to support our students in reaching their academic goals. A full timetable of workshops can be accessed here.

As we transition into Semester 2, I wish all students and families a safe and restorative holiday. I look forward to seeing our students return refreshed and ready to continue building the positive and vibrant school culture that defines us at Lindisfarne.

Year 10 Students Explore Careers in Early Childhood

From Little Things, Big Things Grow:

A group of Year 10 students took part in a two-day interactive overview of the Early Childhood Education and Care sector, held at the TAFE NSW Kingscliff Campus last Friday and again today. The event, supported by the Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP), offered a valuable opportunity for students from across the Tweed region to engage with professionals in the field and explore a potential future in one of Australia’s most meaningful and rewarding industries.

Throughout the program, students learned about the variety of career pathways available in Early Childhood Education and Care, gained insight into the day-to-day work of educators, and took part in practical, hands-on activities facilitated by TAFE NSW teachers and guest speakers from the industry. The experience not only deepened their understanding of the sector but also highlighted the critical role early childhood educators play in nurturing and supporting children in their formative years.

Participants were awarded a Certificate of Participation and left the program feeling inspired, with many now considering Early Childhood Education as a potential pathway for further study or employment.

This initiative aligns with our school's commitment to providing students with authentic, real-world experiences that support their career exploration and personal growth. Thank you to the dedicated staff at TAFE NSW Kingscliff and to the RIEP team for making this program possible.

      Lindisfarne Mock Trial

Throughout this term, the Lindisfarne Mock Trial team has represented our school in two rounds of the NSW Law Societies Mock Trial Competition. The team showed excellent professionalism, outstanding legal research and developed strong public speaking skills. Together, they developed many different arguments and points to support their imagined clients.

We had both a civil and criminal case; the civil case involved defending a mock client who slipped and fell due to negligence, and the criminal prosecuting a mock grand larceny case. I am very proud of this team and all the growth they have shown throughout the competition. Two of the team members have shared their experiences below:

Participating in Mock Trial was a valuable and eye-opening experience that helped me develop confidence in public speaking and thinking under pressure. I played the role of Witness Two, which meant I had to understand my pre-written statement and deliver it clearly and consistently during the trial, ensuring I made sure I knew the material well enough to answer confidently and stay in character when cross-examined. Being cross-examined was definitely the most challenging part, as I had to stay calm and respond accurately to unexpected questions without contradicting my original statement. It taught me the importance of staying focused, listening carefully, and thinking before I spoke. I learned how even the smallest slip-up could be used to challenge credibility. Overall, Mock Trial gave me a better understanding of how courtroom processes work and how important every role is in building a case. It also helped me improve my ability to stay composed when put on the spot, a skill I know will benefit me in school and beyond. I’m looking forward to continuing in the team and building on what I’ve learned in future rounds.

      Student

Mock Trial is one of the most interesting programs I have ever participated in and I have learned invaluable lessons from it. I started off as a witness, which in of itself was a new experience. I was testifying as the friend of the prosecution and everything from memorising my script to improvising under the opponents cross examination was quite intense but seriously rewarding. When I was chosen to be the closing barrister for the next trial I was unsure of what to expect. I started slow and tentatively, staying mostly quiet and passing notes between the others on the bench. However the friendliness of the magistrate in culmination with the supportiveness of my friends gradually bolstered my confidence and by the time I was giving my closing remarks, I was no longer worried about making a fool of myself but having fun and getting in the spirit of the trial. Every time I participate in a mock trial now, my initial reservations are always met by a fascination for the contents of the case and the excitement of the mock courtrooms. I can’t wait to participate again and interact with my friends and students from other schools in progressively more interesting and challenging scenarios!

      BOYS TERM 3 UPDATE

As we head to Term 3, our Lindisfarne rugby program focus shifts from XVs to 7s for the boys. We will have boys 7s squads for the following age groups: U14, U16 and U18 and have a number of tournaments scheduled to compete in. Students who have not been selected in these squads are still more than welcome to attend the Monday PM training and Thursday integrated school sport training sessions, and if there is enough demand, we will enter multiple teams in tournaments for the younger age groups.

Please check the Key Dates in this document HERE and in particular mark the NSW Regional and State Finals and QLD All Schools 7s in your calendars. Also, for all NSW Far North Coast club rugby players, please note that two of the QLD Rugby 7s tournaments (e.g., Moreton Bay and QLD All Schools) are on a Friday, and there may be clashes with travel times and game locations. Another note for term 3 is we will have three Tuesday AM (0700-0940) sessions in the lead up to QLD All Schools 7s on the following dates in September: 2/9, 9/9 and 16/9.

      RECENT GAMES

      LEN DIETT CARNIVAL

      1st XV v Xavier Catholic College 5-7
      1st XV v Xavier Catholic College 12-19

Our 1st XV played two games against Xavier’s 1st XV during the Len Diett Carnival. In the first game, we came out of the gates slowly on defence, and Xavier scored a quick try to go up 0-7. Led by Max Reid and Jesse Bravington in the forwards, we clawed our way back in the game, scoring a nice try to Sam Stovin to bring the score to 5-7. Although we continued to dominate possession and territory in the remainder of the game, Xavier’s defence was up to the task, and they were worthy winners of game one.

In the next game, we started a lot stronger and scored the first try from a well-worked lineout maul. Unfortunately, Xavier came back with three tries of their own, despite some strong defence from Tucker Groves and Mani Lopez. We then managed to return serve by scoring right at the death with another try to Sam Stovin, who was elusive all day in attack, to take the score to 12-19.

Standouts for our 1st XV were Mani Lopez and Sam Stovin in the backs, and Max Reid, Jesse Bravington (who unfortunately could not play in the second game due to a shoulder injury) and Tucker Groves. Finley Watson and Chase Wilson also showed nice progress in their games and have both been improving week on week.

      NSW Country Rugby Representation

Congratulations to the following three Lindisfarne students who made NSW Country squads following the various age grade state carnivals over King's Birthday Weekend. Well done to these three students!!

Far North Coast U14 Representative Report

Over the recent King's Birthday long weekend, five Lindisfarne rugby union players competed in the NSW Rugby Juniors 2025 State Under 14's Championships held in Dubbo - Jake Castle, Oliver Costello, Coby Ellison, Campbell Patterson, Theo Searle and Frederico Zanol Tavares. These young men each play rugby for LAGS, as well as the Casuarina Beach Rugby Club. The selection process to represent the Far North Coast Dolphins occurred shortly after Easter, and in addition to usual school and club training and playing commitments over this term, these lads have had training for this carnival every weekend for the past 2 months.

Dubbo hosted an excellent event, with boys and their families travelling from all over NSW to participate. The 'Phins' competed in a tough pool, which included last year's champions: the ACT Brumbies. The Dolphins got off to a slow start in the cool conditions, winning one of their first four matches. They progressed into the second stage of the competition by which time the team had really hit its straps, winning three games in a row and thus progressing to the Bowl Final. Unfortunately, the boys were narrowly defeated in this game as the weather turned poor and the fatigue of a huge three days of rugby took its toll.

The next stage of NSW junior representative rugby union saw a squad of 40 boys selected from this carnival to participate in further training for the NSW Country team, who will compete against the City team over the July school holidays. Campbell Patterson was selected in this squad, but is unfortunately unable to participate due to prior family travel commitments.

All five boys represented themselves, their school, club and team with exceptional effort and positivity. They are excellent examples of the best that rugby union and team sports bring out in young people - teamwork, life-long friendships, discipline and integrity.

Monday After School (Y7-12) and Tuesday Before School (Open Boys 7s Wider Squad) Training

In Term 3, our main training sessions outside of school time are on Monday after school (1530-1645) for all Y7-12 players and Tuesday before school until the end of P1 (0700-0940) for the open boys 7s training squad on the following dates in September: 2/9, 9/9 and 16/9. Rugby union is a team sport, and we still need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program. If there is any way we can be of assistance to help facilitate this, please let us know.

Also, please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume our Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning training sessions will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know with as much time as possible if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.

      School Uniform and Training Attire

Students should be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday, i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar and not the school sports polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and a spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.

Outside of rugby training times, students should be in the correct uniform, which includes wearing the school sports polo on Thursday in P1-2 and P5-6 and in PE lessons and not rugby training tops.

      Stack Team APP

The Stack Team app will be our Rugby Union program’s main form of communication for all our squads.

As a reminder, both parents and Boys’ / Girls’ 7s students who have parental permission for smartphones will need to download the app and join the Lindisfarne Rugby Program in the app.

To download the Stack team app, use the following links:

      iOS: https://www.teamapp.com/ios-ap...
      Android: https://www.teamapp.com/androi...

Once downloaded, please search for 'Lindisfarne Rugby Program' and request to join.

      Bill Turner Girls

Our U15 Girls Football team faced their regional round on Wednesday in the Bill Turner Football Tournament - aiming once again to secure a place in the Final 16 and Quarter Finals of this sudden-death knockout competition. As mentioned in our earlier communication, over 500 schools from VIC, ACT, NSW, and QLD compete in this prestigious tournament, making their achievement all the more impressive.

With a vocal and well-mannered home crowd behind them (thank you for packing the hill - our players absolutely loved it!), the girls delivered a dominant 6–1 win over Summerland Christian College.

They’re now officially through to the Final 16 and Quarter Finals in Coff Harbour in August. Exciting times ahead - well done, team!

Lindisfarne at the U15 National NFL Flag Tournament

Our U15 NFL Flag team recently travelled to compete in the 2025 NFL Flag National Tournament, facing off against top schools from across the country. Despite a challenging start, with one player sidelined due to illness and a transport mix-up delaying our arrival, the team remained composed and ready to compete.

The early rounds were tough, with our students adjusting to the conditions and high calibre of opposition. However, true to form, they found their rhythm as the day progressed, delivering a series of impressive performances. Their perseverance paid off with a 6th place overall finish, earning the distinction of being the highest-placed NSW school in the competition.

This result reflects the tremendous commitment shown by all the students in the lead-up to the event, including the many hours of extra training. A sincere thank you also goes to our parent community for their ongoing encouragement and support throughout the campaign.

We also extend our congratulations to Benowa State High School (SE QLD), who were crowned National Champions after an exciting final that was decided in the last seven seconds. They will now go on to represent Australia at the NFL Flag International Series this July, a remarkable achievement.

Well done again to our students for their effort, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

      Basketball Mid-season Wrap

      U12 Boys Mufasas:
As we hit just over the halfway point of the season, our U12 boys team has plenty to be proud of. Sitting in fourth place on the ladder, the team has shown incredible growth and sportsmanship.

While development and fun have been the main priorities this season, it's been fantastic to see the competitive spirit building too. With a few close matches under their belts and some great wins along the way, the boys are now eyeing off a strong finish to the season and a potential spot in the finals. Let’s go Mufasas!

      Sami Hill

      U14 Girls Nalas:
Wow – what a season it’s been so far! We’re halfway through and our team is absolutely crushing it on the court. Not only are we undefeated, but we’re also showing amazing teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill every game.

Everyone has been working super hard at training and it’s showing in our games. The teamwork, hustle, and positive vibes have been awesome.

One of the most impressive achievements so far is that five of our players are ranked in the top 10 for points scored out of more than 60 girls across all teams. Special mention to Isla who is leading the comp on 133 points! It shows how hard we’ve worked on our shooting, passing, smart plays, defence and teamwork.

Let’s keep the energy up, keep supporting each other, and make the second half of the season even better.

      Emily Kershler

      U14 Boys Lokis:
The Division 2 Lokis currently sit in a good position on the ladder, in 4th, although we have played the least games. We are working well as a team all round and have done a good job of being good sports and keeping our head high. From the start of the season our team has improved a lot, although we have multiple ways to improve more, such as talking more on defence, playing our positions a bit better, and better help defence.

In conclusion, so far our season has been lots of fun playing with our friends, and an amazing coach. Thank you coach Nash.

      Zach Thomas

      U16 Girls Queens:
The Lindisfarne Queens girls’ basketball team has reached the midpoint of the season, and while results haven’t always gone our way, the team has continued to show solid effort and improvement. The focus this term has been on building skills, working better as a team, and learning from each game. The players have shown up each week ready to compete, and it’s been great to see progress in areas like defence, passing, and communication on the court. Thank you for the chance to play and have fun with the friends I've made through this sport, while losing a little pride along the way.

There’s still plenty of basketball to come, and the team is looking forward to finishing the season strong.

      Tilly Oliver

      U16 Boys Thors:
Our team started with an even 2-2 record in the grading rounds which ended up putting us into Division 3. With just more than half of the season through, we’ve faced tough wins and losses which has landed us in 4th place however, our team has improved tremendously with the way we play, understanding of the game and our chemistry as a team. With 4 games left (not including semi’s and finals) as a team we are thrilled to see what the future has planned for our team.

      Luca Berger

      U16 Boys Hunters:
In the fiercely contested Division 2, with two wins separating first and eighth place, the Hunters sit third. When we are at our best we play a high energy selfless brand of basketball, scoring in a variety of ways, making the extra pass, and communicating and defending relentlessly. The team is doing a really good job of utilising the strengths of the more experienced players with the skill sets and athletic versatility of our multisport athletes with less game and practice reps. If we are to go deep into the finals this season we are going to have to be more consistent coming out with energy and maintaining that energy for the whole game. Finding that energy or not will be the difference between a finals birth, or finishing bottom of the table. It's all to play for. Lets Go Hunters!!

      Nash Campbell

      U18 Boys Kings:
Our season has been a journey so far- we’ve had many close games and have had a tough but insightful season. We’ve had some excellent efforts from each of us on the team and some great team moments. Our Coach, Brett, has played a key part in keeping us motivated and hopeful- we’ve appreciated his well-timed humour and contrasting sense of leadership and organisation very much. We’re looking forward to continuing to learn and grow and are looking forward to finishing this winter season strong.

      2026 Musical Auditions

We are beyond excited to officially reveal our 2026 musical: the timeless Disney classic Beauty and the Beast! This enchanting production will transform Ngahriyah into a magical wonderland, brought to life by the incredible talents of our students and creative team. Together, we will create a spellbinding theatrical experience to share with our school community.

Set in a world where enchanted objects sing, villages burst into song, and love can break even the strongest of curses, Beauty and the Beast explores powerful themes of compassion, transformation, belonging, courage, and looking beyond appearances. It’s a story that celebrates inner beauty, the strength of kindness, and the power of connection—values we hold dear in our school community.

Auditions will be held in Week 3 of Term 3, and we would love to see as many students as possible involved, whether on stage or behind the scenes. STAGE 2 MUSICAL

Last week, Stage 2 performed the musical Finding Nemo Jr. Mrs Shepherd and Mr Edwards were sensational in directing and leading the Stage 2 performance. All the Year 3 and 4 students worked really well together to make it happen.

In preparation for the musical there were after school rehearsals until 5 o’clock for leads and on Tuesdays during specialist lessons for the ensemble. We had four shows, two for the blue cast and two for the green cast. There was also a dress rehearsal which Kindergarten and Year 1 attended. Mr Edwards and Mrs Shepherd helped a lot with things we didn’t notice. We hired some fabulous costumes and Mrs Hammond made some of our own.

Performing on stage was really fun and everyone put in their best effort. It was so amazing how they turned the musical into a magical performance and a remarkable experience for everyone that watched and performed. We don’t know who had more fun, the Stage 2 teachers or the hard-working students. Staff played a huge part in contributing to every aspect; costumes, moving set, choreography and make-up.

      Bailey (3MR – Fan Coral)
I especially liked the finale song and taking a bow on stage with my friends. It felt good to celebrate our hard work.

      Essy (3A – Seahorse)
I’m happy to be in the production and I loved all the stage lighting and the props that go with the musical.

      Georgia (3R – Water Fish)
I liked that it brought us all together to sing and dance and we made new friends.

      Mila (3S – Coral)
My favourite part was the beginning when everyone was on stage and we all started singing together.

      Willow (4S – Fish/Jellyfish)
My favourite scene in the musical was the magical Jellyfish scene where we used umbrellas and lights to create the jellyfish.

      Zach (4T- Turtle)
It was my first time on stage, and it felt good to be in front of everyone. When it was the ‘Go with the Flow’ song, it was my time to shine.

      Jobe (4J- Turtle)
The musical was fun. I liked when we got to surf and bob up and down dressed in turtle costumes.

      Bunty (4H – Nemo)
I loved the whole musical but my favourite part was definitely getting to fly off the stage through the audience.

Overall, it was a very rewarding experience and everyone had a blast contributing to this memorable production. We even learnt something from whimsical Dory, who taught us when things get tough, we need to remember to JUST KEEP SWIMMING ON!

      Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts

It has been a joy for the Speech and Drama tutors to watch over 100 Lindisfarne students from Kindergarten to Year 10 perform at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts over the last week.

The students have worked hard over the last term to perfect their poetry recitations, hone their mime skills and rehearse their dramas for this performance opportunity.

From first time performers to seasoned Eisteddfod goers , all students shone on the Civic Centre stage with many taking home medals (too many to list here) for their achievements.

      Barbara Sisley Awards

Last Saturday, I was honoured to attend the Barbara Sisley Awards at Parliament House in Brisbane with five very talented Drama students.

The Barbara Sisley Awards are to honour students who recieved the highest mark in the state in either AMEB or Trinity College London Speech and Drama exams. The students performed their winning pieces at the award ceremony before receiving their awards.

Five students from the one school is a remarkable achievement, but demonstrates the strength of the Speech and Drama program at Lindisfarne.

      Congratulations to:

      • Oscar Nicol
      • Ginny Leslie,
      • Beatrice Broad
      • Madeline Neumann
      • Anna Haubek

      Fingal Coastcare Donation

The Lindisfarne bush regeneration program has received a very generous donation from Fingal Coastcare. 68 native trees, including Eucalyptus, Banksia, and a huge variety of rainforest species, will be planted in our school forest. Our year 5, 6 and 10 bush regeneration groups have been busy over the last three weeks planting these trees in our school forest.

We are very grateful to Sarah Whitrod from Fingal Coastcare for organising this donation and for even giving our year 10 bush regen group a visit. We look forward to seeing these trees grow and provide vital habitat for our wildlife for many years to come. To learn more about Fingal Coastcare and to see how you can get involved, make sure to visit their website here.
