Foreword

Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,

As we conclude Week 4 of Term 2, I am pleased to share some of the highlights and upcoming events coming up at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School.

Mr Marquardt has commenced a well-deserved three-month sabbatical after an illustrious 40-year career in education, marked by unwavering commitment and exemplary service to our school. We wish him and Wendy safe travels and look forward to welcoming them back at our bi-annual FunFest on Saturday, 24 August.

Planning for FunFest is progressing well, and we are seeking the support of our business community to consider supporting the event via sponsorship. For more information, you can view the sponsorship booklet here.

Mr Marquardt’s final day before leave coincided with one of his favourite events, National Simultaneous Storytime, now in its 24th year. Mr Marquardt delighted our young students at Sunshine Avenue by reading "The Bowerbird Blue," a beautifully illustrated tale about a charming bowerbird named Blue, who learns the values of creativity, diligence, and community. National Simultaneous Storytime highlights the joy and educational value of reading, and I encourage all Junior School parents to share this experience at home.

Our Year 11 students had an inspiring day on Wednesday, participating in the Dare to Dream and DARE sessions. These activities provided wonderful opportunities for our students to engage with motivational content and workshops aimed at fostering ambition and personal growth. My thanks to the Senior School staff for their work to make this day possible for our students.

This Saturday, I am looking forward to attending the Kinship Festival at Knox Park in Murwillumbah. This community event commences at 10:00am and celebrates shared values, cultural diversity. Concluding at 4:00pm, the day will be packed with a celebration of Aboriginal art, dance, community and culture. I look forward to seeing many of our Lindisfarne families there.

As part of our commitment to our partnership with parents in education, renowned psychologist Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg will return to Lindisfarne on Thursday, June 13th at 6:30pm. Dr. Carr-Gregg will focus on sibling rivalry, providing insightful strategies and advice on nurturing sibling relationships. This session offers parents practical knowledge and tools to support their children's relationships at home. We encourage all parents to reply via this link with further information found below in the ParentEd section.

Please mark your diaries for the annual Soul and Blues Festival which is fast approaching. Join us on Friday, June 7th at 6:30pm for an evening of music, food, and community spirit. It's a great opportunity to relax, enjoy the performances, and connect with other members of our school community.

Finally, I extend my best wishes to our Year 7 to 11 students and staff as they embark on their respective camps next week. These camps provide invaluable experiences that promote teamwork, resilience, personal growth, and focus on character education. I look forward to visiting some of the camps throughout the week.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community.

Warm regards,

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Guardians,

RAP Community Lunch

Last Wednesday some members of the Executive, staff and students gathered for our termly fellowship over lunch with our Aboriginal community members and leaders. As a school we are committed to a more reconciled and harmonious Australia, and to bridging the educational gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. We thank all those who attended, and those who made the gathering a truly beautiful and joyful time of friendship, encounter and sharing.

A Prayer by Thomas Merton

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

For our Prayers

Pray always and never lose heart (words of Jesus in Luke 18:1)

  • For peace in our hearts and in our world

  • For all those enduring grief and loss in our community

  • For those battling illnesses or recovering from surgery

  • For those experiencing acute loneliness and isolation

  • For the elderly, aged and frail in Nursing Homes

  • For our medical professionals

  • For all teachers and teachers’ aides.

Please send your prayer requests to prayers@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au

We would like to pray for these requests.

I wish you all a joyful and restful weekend, and please don’t forget to come down to the Knox Park in Murwillumbah on Saturday, 25 May from 10.00am for the Kinship Festival.

The Reverend Constantine Osuchukwu
Chaplain

Red Shield Appeal Breakfast

On Tuesday May 14, myself and three other Student Leaders were lucky enough to join Mr Marquardt, Mrs Ward and the Reverend Constantine Osuchukwu at the Red Shield Appeal Breakfast at Club Tweed. Ourselves and the Tweed Chamber of Commerce and Industry were witness to a moving and inspiring presentation from Tweed Salvation Army representatives, who each shared their roles and stories.

We heard from Nicole and John Viles, Salvation Army Officers strongly committed to fundraising and personally helping those in need. Nicole volunteers at two local schools, providing breakfast daily to 140 students who otherwise mightn’t have food. We also heard from Major Grant Kingston-Kerr, who shared a deeply personal story about his own struggles with drug and alcohol addiction and the negative impact it had upon his life, but how finding God with the Salvation Army has thus far sparked 22 years of valuable service to the community.

The contributions these individuals have made to our local community have been especially important during the current cost of living crisis and persistent natural disasters, both of which have pushed more Australians into poverty and have further darkened the lives of those already in dire need. It is because of the Salvation Army that these people can be fed, clothed, sheltered, and most significantly, afforded the dignity every person deserves.

The Salvation Army’s message of helping those in need reflects Christian beliefs and is one that is notably applicable to Lindisfarne’s own values. The school has conducted a number of fundraising events to help those in need, the most recent of which have involved collecting donations for the Tweed Women’s Refuge, Agape Outreach and Fred’s Place. The Red Shield Appeal highlighted that now, more than ever, our efforts need to continue to be strong, that we must continue to use our privilege to support community members who are suffering social and financial hardships.

Queensland Museum Visit

On Tuesday the 14th of May identified students from Years 3 and 4 attended an excursion to the Queensland Museum in Brisbane to visit the Wild State exhibit and interact with Spark Lab. They were joined by Mrs Dana Dowker, Mrs Angela Mundy, Mrs Jacqueline O’Sullivan, Miss Ellie Higgison and a few special guests in our Heroes of Discovery Compassionate Carlos, Inquisitive Indu, Sustainability Suki and Inventive Idris.

Following is a recount of our day through the eyes of Madeleine Sturm (Year 4).

Once we had arrived and taken a group photo, had a quick recess and dropped off our bags we headed to the Wild State exhibit in the museum.

We were given the task to investigate the various habitats and the animals that lived there and write interesting information and facts. To do this we used the S.I.T. thinking routine where we find something Surprising, something Interesting and something Troubling.

The first habitat we looked at was the arid desert with animals such as feral cats and different types of eagles and marsupials. We then looked at the open forest and the rainforest, filled with lush trees adorned with birds. Both of these habitats were also home to many snakes and other tree-dwelling animals. The Coastal habitat is grouped into three different types of habitats – mangroves, rocky shoreline and marine.

Entering the SparkLab was next. We observed a scientist taking away oxygen from liquids and solids and was demonstrated first. Then we were free to explore on our own. Illusions, tricks of light, a huge sphere that changed to show different planets and the electric ball were some of the many wonders we explored.

Throughout the excursion we engaged with traits that we are learning about and demonstrated by our Heroes of Discovery. Sustainability Suki and Compassionate Carlos were embodied throughout the excursion as we have got to be compassionate about and for the animals and care for the habitats through sustainable habits. We embraced the traits of Inquisitive Indu when we were in the museum researching. And now we are looking forward to being more like Inventive Indris as we create our stories to share with Kindy and Year 1.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Now in its 24th year, National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually as part of Library and Information Week. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, bookshops and many other places around the country.

On Wednesday, Mr Marquardt joined Junior School students from Preschool to Year 4 to share in a reading of Bowerbird Blues, written and illustrated by Aura Parker. The children were excited and attentive, hanging onto every word of the story. We appreciate Mr Marquardt spending time with us on his final day before taking his well deserved sabbatical leave. His dedication to ensuring this event is engaging and fun for our students is greatly appreciated.

The school was a sea of bowerbird blue as we held a Mufti Day to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of our community, we successfully raised funds that will contribute to the Foundation's efforts in improving literacy rates among Indigenous children in remote communities.

Thanks to everyone involved, particularly Miss Tammy, who created a beautiful backdrop that sparked imagination and brought the story to life!

The Round Square Heroes of Discovery

This week at the Junior School, we have introduced our latest Round Square Hero of Discovery, Tenacious Tino.

Characterised by his resilience, determination, and perseverance, Tino demonstrates a steadfast commitment to overcoming obstacles and challenges. His story is a powerful example of never giving up, despite facing discouragement.

In the classrooms, our teachers are using Tino's inspiring story to spark discussions on how we can embody his traits to achieve personal goals, build resilience, enhance growth and learning and inspire others to build tenacity to lead a more fulfilling and successful life.

We are excited to see how Tenacious Tino's qualities manifest in our students at the Junior School over the next few weeks as we strive to nurture a community of budding heroes!

Senior School

From the Head of Senior School

Next week marks a significant time for our Senior School. Students in Years 9, 10, and 11 embark on their school camps, while our Year 12 students remain on campus for an Activities Week. This period is dedicated to intensive preparation for their impending trial examinations and life beyond school. These experiences, whether in the wilderness or in the classroom, are vital for our students' growth, resilience, and readiness for future challenges.

School camps are not just a break from the routine; they are transformative experiences that challenge and stretch our students in new ways. Whether it is navigating a difficult hiking trail, working collaboratively with peers on problem-solving tasks, or stepping out of their comfort zones, these experiences are designed to foster personal growth. It is through facing and overcoming these challenges that students develop resilience, confidence, and a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. Our educational approach is not just about academic excellence, it is about nurturing well-rounded individuals who are ready to face the world with confidence and resilience.

Coinciding with our camp week is National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for 2024, "Now More Than Ever," serves as a powerful reminder that the quest for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is ongoing and must continue.

Reconciliation is a journey that requires commitment and action. It asks us to confront difficult truths and to remain engaged, especially in times of division. Now more than ever, we must tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation. The millions of Australians who have shown their support for better outcomes for First Nations people inspire us to stand up for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, to call out racism wherever we encounter it, and to amplify the voices of First Nations peoples across this continent.

As our students venture out on their camps, they will be building connections with each other and with the land. This connection is a fundamental aspect of reconciliation – understanding and respecting the deep and enduring ties that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to this land. Just as the camps challenge our students to stretch and grow, reconciliation challenges us to grow as a society. Through treaty-making, truth-telling, education, and tackling racism, we strive for a future where respect and action lead to meaningful change.

For our Year 12 students, this week is an opportunity to focus on their academic pursuits and to prepare for the next chapter of their lives. In their studies, they will also encounter the importance of understanding our collective history and the role they can play in fostering reconciliation in their future endeavours.

It will be important for us all to take inspiration from our students' experiences next week, both in the outdoors and in the classroom. As they face and overcome challenges, let us also embrace the spirit of reconciliation. By fostering connection, respect, and action in our own lives, we contribute to an inclusive future.

Kate Cornell
Head of Senior School

Careers and VET

Year 10 Careers

This week in Careers, Year 10 students have had the opportunity to share in the wisdom of our Year 12 students and hear about their experiences in their final years of senior schooling. The Year 12 students have shared how they approached subject selection, what they enjoy about Year 11 and 12, what they wish they had considered and their advice to the Year 10 students. They shared tips on managing workload and making the most of their final years of school. Some of the key takeaways from the collective wisdom shared has focused on doing your best in Year 11 to set yourself up for the Year 12 HSC year, doing subjects you enjoy to enhance motivation and staying open-minded as students often commented that they initially weren’t sure about some of their selections but as they have progressed through the course have grown in confidence and now really enjoy the subjects and take on the challenge with enthusiasm.

Year 12 Activities Week

Year 12 students will be undertaking their Activities Week program next week, which offers opportunities for all students to explore opportunities for the future and prepare for the final stretch of the HSC year. Highlights will include a day at Southern Cross University Campus to start the week, a Business Networking Panel and morning tea, a Public Speaking and Interview Skill workshop with Professor Alan Patching from Bond University and a Tax 101 workshop.

Spotlight on University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne has updated the subject prerequisites for its degrees. Many undergraduate courses have different prerequisites. For example, the Bachelor of Science prerequisites at the University of Melbourne are English, Advanced Maths and either Biology, Chemistry or Physics, while the Bachelor of Arts prerequisite is English. It is recommended that students check the ‘entry requirements’ tab on each of the course pages for full details on prerequisites ahead of their high school subject selection.

There are equivalent single subjects and tests students can take or pathways programs like the Diploma in General Studies which you can view here.

DARE TO DREAM

We are continually navigating the intricate landscapes of modern society. Thus, recognising one's self-worth is not merely a personal triumph but a foundation for genuine success and fulfilment. Our self-worth counters pervasive challenges like imposter syndrome, where we often feel undeserving of accolades despite evident successes. DARE TO DREAM creates the space to reflect and engage in these important issues.

DARE TO DREAM, built upon the pillars of inspiration, aspiration and motivation, offers us the opportunity to work together to foster confidence and connection through conversations designed to dig deep into who we are and work to overcome our personal challenges and the scrutiny of the world we exist within.

It was my absolute pleasure to host D2D 2024 on Wednesday, 22nd May, at Osteria. Our Year 11 students (and some lucky Year 12 students!) heard from Dr Katherine Iscoe. Dr Kat is a keynote speaker, author, board member, former CEO of a dual-listed public company, academic mentor and summa cum laude graduate with multiple scholarships and awards.

Despite these achievements and perceived public success, Dr Katherine’s mental health was teetering on collapse; she endured a debilitating eating disorder for over a decade, and persevered through severe depression and thoughts of suicide.

It is precisely these deeply personal experiences that have shaped Katherine's latest research focus: the inseparable connection between self-respect and self-leadership, because at the core of her struggle for inner peace, it was a lack of self-respect that influenced her self-destructive tendencies.

Her research revealed that self-respect enables a leader to push the limits of their potential by recognising their inherent worth and significance, enabling them to embrace calculated risks and step out of their comfort zones fostering a deep belief in their ability to make a meaningful impact. Self-respecting leaders also communicate with more confidence, exhibit greater resilience, live free of imposter syndrome, and wholeheartedly embrace a growth mindset.

Dr Katherine’s work with our students was anchored in personal experience that created a safe space of them to consider their public, private and secret selves to ensure they are always showing up as their best versions of themselves.

D2D is part of the ongoing conversation about what matters to our young people.

Gold Coast School Futsal Titles

On Monday 13 May, both our Under 12 boys’ and Under 11/12 girls’ teams participated in the Gold Coast School Futsal Titles.

Both teams displayed outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the round-robin tournament. The U12 girls' grit and determination paid off as they finished top of their pool. Advancing to the finals, though the girls played valiantly in the Semi Final game, they narrowly missed advancing further.

Similarly, the Under 12 boys competed well and showed great spirit, despite not progressing beyond their pool matches.

Congratulations to both groups for their fantastic efforts and for proudly representing our school.

RECENT GAMES

XAVIER CATHOLIC COLLEGE

Our U16 XV and 1st XV travelled down to Xavier Catholic College on Thursday 16th May for the second round of the NSW Rugby Len Diett Cup.

U16

Last Thursday, the Lindisfarne Lions under-16s faced Xavier Catholic College on a very wet and muddy field, aptly described by racing enthusiasts as a Heavy 9. The challenging conditions set the stage for a tough, defensive battle. George Trevor-Jones and Menzie Tucker showcased strong defensive efforts, repelling multiple attacking raids by Xavier. Tucker Groves was outstanding in his ball carrying, consistently gaining valuable ground despite the heavy conditions. Additionally, Ben Crawford's prodigious kicking repeatedly got the Lions out of trouble, providing much-needed relief in their own half. A mammoth effort by Albert Stainley-Warren in both attack and defence earned him a deserving man of the match award.

Despite their defensive resilience, the Lions were unable to breach Xavier's defence and went down 17-0 in what was a day best left for ducks. The game was played in great spirits, with Xavier emerging as worthy winners. The u16 Lions displayed admirable effort, especially considering this was their first game together as a team. Their performance hints at significant potential, and with time, they are bound to become a formidable unit. The future of 1st XV rugby at Lindisfarne looks bright with such promising talent coming through the ranks.

1st XV

A tough encounter against Xavier challenged our 1st XV. The Xavier team was physically imposing and with our team missing a few regulars it was a tough contest. Two tries from our mistakes meant a half time score of 0-12. A more composed team performance in the second half was converted into final score of 5-17. Will Sullivan, Flynn McCulloch, Sam Stovin and Charlie Sutton were stand out performers in the wet and muddy conditions.

KINGS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE

Our U12 boys hosted King’s Catholic College from Reedy Creek at Casuarina Rugby Club on Tuesday 21st May. This was also one of our longest standing rugby staff member’s, Mr Scott Lewis, final game coaching at the school and it was great to send him out with a win over a very strong rugby school. We wish Mr Lewis all the best for his future and want to thank him for his outstanding contributions to our program here at the school.

U12

Lindisfarne 34 defeated Kings College 19

This fixture against Kings provided an opportunity for our entire Under 12’s squad to take the field for the first time in a 15-a-side format. The squad was very excited as we bussed our way down to Casuarina to play a very formidable opponent.

The match was played in 3 x thirds in order to allow all of our Lions the opportunity to play some rugby. Our Blue squad, which was made up of players who are heading to Sydney for the Primary 7’s Finals and the bulk of our DNK Cup squad, flew out of the blocks and quickly raced to a 14-0 lead. Kings then found their way into the match and the remainder of the third was a grinding battle.

Our ‘Retro Lions’ took the field in the middle third, sporting the light blue jersey of yesteryear! This squad played extremely well - with some enterprising attacking rugby on display. Kings had well and truly found their way into the contest by this point, but our ‘Retro Lions’ scored 2 scintillating long range tries that had the crowd on their feet.

The final third was an opportunity for our Blue Squad to have a final hitout - and while play was scrappy at times - they went on to win the fixture 34-19 in the end. Standout players for the day were Harry Taylor, Ben Dickens and Sky Brenber.

We have a squad of 13 heading down to represent Lindifarne at the Primary School Rugby 7’s State Finals next Friday. We eagerly await news of their performances – best of luck team!

As mentioned earlier, this week’s fixture was my final involvement in the Lions Rugby Program, as I am moving on to a new position in a new school next week. Having been involved in the program since 2019 it is amazing to see the strength and depth of our Lions Program now. It’s hard to believe the first squad I coached are now the bulk of the 1st XV!

I wanted to wish all players and the coaching team the very best for the future - I will be following results closely!

Scott Lewis
U12 Coach

Monday After School Training

In 2024, our main training session outside of school time is on Monday after school from 1530-1645. Although we have had good numbers to our term 1 training sessions, rugby union is a team sport and we still need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program in term 2. Hopefully, the car-pooling details will help this and if we can be of assistance in any way, please let us know.

Also, please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume our Monday afternoon training will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know in ample time if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.

Training Attire

Students should also be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session, including school sport. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar and not the school sport polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.

Stack Team APP

The Stack Team app will be our Rugby Union program’s main form of communication for all our squads, with exception of U12 boys.

As a reminder, both parents and Boy’s U13, U15, 1st XVs and 7’s and Girl’s 7s students who have parental permission for smartphones will need to download the app and join the Lindisfarne Rugby Program in the app.

To download the Stack team app, use the following links:

● iOS: https://www.teamapp.com/ios-ap...

● Android: https://www.teamapp.com/androi...

Once downloaded, please search for 'Lindisfarne Rugby Program' and request to join.

Lindisfarne Rugby X Bond University Colts - Front Row Training

Our Lindisfarne Rugby Program is very lucky to have been given a standing invitation for any of our front row players to train with Bond University Colts on Wednesday nights as a part of their units block. This block is a 35 min block starting from 1845 with lineout primers and then moving into scrum work from 1900. If you are interested in this opportunity, please let us know and we can pass on more details.

Integrated School Sport Selections

As we move into term 3 integrated school sport (Thursday) selections in week 6, all students wanting to play rugby 7s for the school OR continue training rugby should select Rugby for term 3 sport. This is for both boys and girls and all students are welcome to come and train with us, regardless of if they make our school representative squads.

For the boys, we will have Open Boys (U18), U16, U15, U14 and U13 representative squads competing in NSW and QLD tournaments next term. For the girls, we will have Open Girls (U18), U16, and U15 representative squads competing in NSW and QLD tournaments next term. For more details on fixtures, please check the key dates HERE.

More Information

If you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Coyne (jcoyne@lindiisfarne.nsw.edu.au).

Term 3 Integrated Sports

The Term 3 integrated sports selections are opening at 7:00pm on the evening of Wednesday 5 June (week 6) - this is so the Sports Department can organise wider logistics and embed timetables for our students ready to go for Week One in Term 3.

Please carefully view the Sport Selection Options linked below (also available to view on Clipboard here) to familiarise yourself and discuss with students prior to Wednesday 5 June.

Years 5 & 6 options

Years 7 to 12 options

We encourage students to carefully select their sports, and where applicable - to network with their friends in advance of when selections open (including having contingency plans if selections fill-up).

Please note that there are no sport swaps after the selection process - swapping students across rolls and unravelling finance is not a straightforward process, thank you for your cooperation.

Please be aware that we will not be pre-filling any sports selection for any students including the below groups. Please read the following instructions carefully.

Lindisfarne Lions Basketball - team members of MUFASAS, U16 HUNTERS, U16 ATTILAS, U16 THORS, U14 LOKIS and U18 KINGS, must select Basketball Lindisfarne Lions for Term 3.

Dance Eisteddfod - all students who were successfully selected into the Dance Eisteddfod through the audition process must select Dance as their sport for Term 3 on Clipboard (not on Parent Lounge/Seqta as previously done). Students will be tagged into the correct Dance group for you to select.

Netball Lindisfarne Representative Teams - This is compulsory and only available to the Lindisfarne Representative Netball Teams if you have been selected and notified - please select this option.

Rugby - All students wanting to play rugby 7s for the school OR continue training for rugby should select Rugby for term 3. Students not in the current squads are still welcome to join and should select rugby for school sport.

Touch Football - Those students who participate in the Tuesday Morning Touch Football training squads will need to select Touch Football for sport in Term 3.

Creative Writing Competition

The annual Lindisfarne Creative Writing Competition is now open to students from Year 7-12. The stimulus this year is actually original artwork from two of our wonderful Year 9 visual art students: Zoe Radonich and Gus Roberts. It is great to see some highlights of the work our creative students are doing with surrealist art styles at the moment, and we can’t wait to read the stories that these artworks inspire.

Please direct entries and any questions to emily.brewer@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au

Gold Coast Debating

Junior A

Last Wednesday, Lindisfarne’s Junior A Team 1 completed their first short preparation debate at Hillcrest Christian College. These short preparation debates are very challenging, with students only having their topic for two hours before delivering their five minute case. Competing against a strong St. Hilda team, our Junior A debaters were awarded a tightly contested victory by 1 point.

First speaker Niamh Glasson opened the debate with her trademark strong delivery, establishing the definition of the debate, presenting her team’s initial arguments and rebutting the opposing team’s points. Beatrice Broad followed as second speaker, passionately continuing her team’s case with an impressive skill level beyond her years. Taylor Van Niekerk closed the debate as third speaker, presenting a range of rebuttals and summarising her team’s points admirably in what was her first short preparation debate! In an act of great strength and bravery, Aziah Phoenix-Coy defied doctor recommendations to smoothly facilitate the debate as chairperson despite illness.

The LAGS Junior A Team 1 are now 2-0, preparing for their third debate in the coming weeks. Well done guys!

Mr Schoenmaker.

Junior A: Lag2

Meanwhile, our Junior A team 2 consisting of Ajay, Eddie, Claire and Anouk put in a fantastic effort arguing the affirmative side against Somerset College. While they put in a valiant effort, unfortunately they didn’t quite take home the win. Nonetheless, coach Mrs Tywford praised the students on continuing to improve each week in their signposting and structure. Short prep debates are incredibly high pressure, and the team is commended on their efforts and sportsmanship.

Thank you Junior A 2 for always representing our school with pride!

Open A: Lag1

Topic: Well known people are obligated to use their platform to speak about significant injustices

Side: Affirmative

Our Open A debaters, Xan, Olivia, Ella and Lexi had a fantastic round, with a convincing win. Coaches Mrs Treacy and Ms Brewer are super proud of the team for their excellent examples and well articulated points. Special mention to Xan for outstanding rebuttals and for shining in the third speaker role- which seasoned debaters know requires a talent for thinking under pressure. It has been a pleasure to see this group improve their skills and grow as a team over the course of this season.

Well done Open A debaters!
