From the Acting Principal
Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
As we conclude Week 6, I am delighted to share the remarkable events and achievements of our school community.
Last week was National Reconciliation Week. As our Year 7 to 11 students were on camp, we recognised this important national celebration this week at Lindisfarne. National Reconciliation Week is an invaluable opportunity to reflect on and honour the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Led by our First Nations Cultural Coordinator Katrina Singh, our students engaged in a series of activities designed to deepen their appreciation and understanding of Indigenous culture through interactive workshops, storytelling, and performances.
Today, I returned from the Term 2 Diocese Schools Network meeting, hosted by Emmanuel College in Ballina. It was an enriching experience to gather with fellow colleagues from our Diocese School Network, sharing insights and collaborative initiatives that will undoubtedly benefit our school community.
This evening, we are thrilled to host the Soul and Blues Festival, a celebration of musical talent featuring performances from our students alongside ARIA Hall of Famer Phil Burton. This festival highlights our Performing Arts staff's commitment to ensuring our young people have access to high-caliber artists. It is one of the many opportunities our students have to be inspired by musicians performing at the top of their field.
Looking ahead, our upcoming Business Breakfast will feature Olympic swimmer Brooke Hanson as our esteemed guest speaker on Wednesday, 12 June at Club Tweed. Brooke's remarkable journey, marked by both triumph and adversity, promises to inspire attendees. Her story of overcoming significant challenges to achieve Olympic success offers deep insights into the principles of excellence and resilience. Don’t miss this opportunity to be inspired by one of Australia’s most accomplished athletes. Bookings can be made via this link.
Our annual fundraiser, Germinate Records Live, will also take place on Wednesday, 12 June, at The Citadel in Murwillumbah. This event supports the critical services provided by Tweed Palliative Care & Wedgetail Retreat, showcasing our talented singer-songwriters and the Germinate Records Band. Tickets can be purchased via this link.
On 13 June, Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg will lead a ParentEd session on Sibling Rivalry at 6.30pm in our Mahers Lane Campus Chapel. Drawing on his extensive experience in child and adolescent psychology, Dr. Carr-Gregg will offer strategies that promote positive sibling relationships and foster family harmony. This session promises to be invaluable for any parent navigating the complexities of sibling dynamics. Parents who wish to attend should reply via this link.
Lastly, a reminder that this Monday, 10 June, we will observe the King's Birthday public holiday. The School will be closed as we honour this national celebration. Enjoy the long weekend, and may it provide a relaxing break for you and your families.
Warm regards,
Charlotte Lush

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Guardians,
National Reconciliation Week Activities
This week we participated in various activities to celebrate and mark the National Reconciliation Week. At assembly and Chapel Services, as well as in the classrooms we acknowledged the rich and diverse history of our country, giving thanks particularly to our First Nations people whose ancient heritage is the cornerstone of our Land. The highlight was learning about the local Indigenous history, dreamtime stories and lores through the storytelling and dance of the Gudji Dancers. Thank you Mrs Singh, and all our staff and students for the wonderful Reconciliation Week celebrations. Let us continue to work together to build a more reconciled, kind, just and harmonious society for all Australians.
The Importance of Small Things and Small Kindnesses
I would like to reiterate the importance of small things that make a big difference in relationships. They are: ‘sorry, please, and thank you!; Please encourage each other and our students to learn how to build strong relationships by using these simple gestures that make a world of difference in the classroom, society and at home. Danusha Laméris’ poem, Small Kindnesses, invites us to pay attention to the little things of daily life and small gestures of gratitude.
A Poem: Small Kindnesses by Danusha Laméris
I’ve been thinking about the way, when you walk
down a crowded aisle, people pull in their legs
to let you by. Or how strangers still say “bless you”
when someone sneezes, a leftover
from the Bubonic plague. “Don’t die,” we are saying.
And sometimes, when you spill lemons
from your grocery bag, someone else will help you
pick them up. Mostly, we don’t want to harm each other.
We want to be handed our cup of coffee hot,
and to say thank you to the person handing it. To smile
at them and for them to smile back. For the waitress
to call us honey when she sets down the bowl of clam chowder,
and for the driver in the red pick-up truck to let us pass.
We have so little of each other, now. So far
from tribe and fire. Only these brief moments of exchange.
What if they are the true dwelling of the holy, these
fleeting temples we make together when we say, “Here,
have my seat,""Go ahead—you first,""I like your hat.”
Our Prayer Focus this Week
“Pray always and never lose heart” (words of Jesus in Luke 18 verse 1)
Let us pray for all the victims and survivors of war: may God be close to them and comfort them.
Let us pray for those who suffer because of war and violence:
the poor, the elderly and the weak, women and children;
Let us pray for those who forment war and profit from arms trade: that God may touch their hearts and convert them;
Let us pray for peace in our hearts and in our world.
Please if you’d like us to pray for you, send your prayer requests to prayers@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au
We would like to join you in praying for these requests.
I wish you all a rejuvenating long weekend, and God’s richest blessings in every way.

Whooping Cough
We want to inform you that whooping cough (pertussis) is currently circulating in the community, with confirmed cases across all three sub schools at Lindisfarne.
Whooping cough is a bacterial infection that affects the respiratory system, causing severe coughing fits that can lead to complications, particularly in young children. It spreads easily through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
If you have a family member who is a child under 6 months, or a woman in their final month of pregnancy, please seek medical advice if you suspect that you have been exposed to this disease, or are showing symptoms.
Please see the NSW Fact Sheet for more information.
If you suspect that you or your child may have whooping cough, it is important to seek medical attention promptly as antibiotics can help reduce the severity of the illness and prevent its spread to others.
Please notify the school via SEQTA Engage if your child has been diagnosed with this whooping cough.
Thank you for your support and cooperation in helping to keep our community safe.

The Push-Up Challenge
This June, our Senior School students are taking on 3,249 push-ups across 24 days in June as part of Australia’s largest mental health and fitness event, The Push-Up Challenge.
The aim is to use physical exercise to start conversations that bring awareness and understanding to issues surrounding mental health. We are doing this through a house competition where the students will join their relevant house and challenge themselves to complete the push-ups as well as see which house can raise the most money for this worthy cause.
Lindisfarne is encouraging the local community to show their support and donate to any of the Lindisfarne Houses below as this will raise much-needed funds for Headspace, supporting youth mental health:
Students can also still join the challenge by following the relevant link above.
I look forward to the continued support of this program as the term progresses. Leaderboards for the number of push-ups and donations received will be displayed at school and through the newsletter.

Reconciliation Week - Junior School
From the Junior School
Over the last two weeks the Junior School has been celebrating National Reconciliation Week. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn and have opportunities to collectively build relationships and value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories, cultures and futures.
This week commenced with our Junior School Chapel Service, led by Reverend Constantine and Katrina Singh who delved deeper into the importance of reconciliation and coming together. We welcomed The Gudjin Dancers performers who told wonderful creation stories through dance. All the students were engaged and some were even welcomed up on stage to join in. Earlier last week, our Kindergarten students worked with our wonderful Miss Gypsy and together they formulated an Acknowledgement of Country whilst also painting their faces with ochre.
Throughout the week our classes created a sea of hearts whilst our Junior House Captains welcomed students onto our campus with reconciliation stickers. It was a wonderful fortnight filled with activities and learning.
With everyone dressed in yellow today to conclude Reconciliation Week and raise money for The Children’s Ground, we also celebrated inclusion with Mrs Sophie Sparks, Founder of You Can Sit With Me. Our Year 2 and Year 3 students, alongside our Term 2 Year 4 House Captains, listened to Sophie speak about the importance of students never feeling alone and to show how we can stamp out bullying and increase inclusivity. The students who have already been an ambassador could express what they learned from the opportunity and how they still look out for others even when they are not wearing their wrist band.
As we approach the long weekend, I know all our students will embrace opportunities to spend time with their families and reflect on what they have been learning throughout the week.

The Round Square Heroes of Discovery - Junior School
This week at the Junior School, we have introduced our latest Round Square Hero of Discovery, Inventive Idris.
Characterised by his creativity, curiosity and innovation, Idris highlights the importance of looking at the world through a different lens. His story challenges others to form new ideas and provides a powerful example of the importance of being bold and tenacious when trialling solutions to problems that have not been thought of before.
In classrooms throughout the Junior School, teachers have been facilitating discussions on how Idris’ character traits can be embodied to help us adapt to new situations and challenges by thinking outside the box.
Inventive Idris is sure to inspire our Junior School students to embrace their creativity and curiosity. We look forward to seeing his admirable qualities shine amongst our school community of budding heroes over the next few weeks.

Daly Norton Knight Cup Rugby
The year 4 Rugby team travelled to All Saints College to compete in the Daly Norton Knight Cup. The day got off to a flying start with the team running in 5 unanswered tries. The game was a real team effort and it was good to finally get their first hit out as a team. The second game was a little harder and the boys had done some learning from the first game. They put this into practice and competed all game finishing in a draw with two tries a piece.
The next two games were against top quality opposition. Our third game was definitely the best of the day with both teams fighting hard for supremacy. In the end a late try to Kings Christian College sealed the win for them, with 5 tries to 4. In the final game it was a matter of who had the most gas left in the tank and unfortunately it was not us. The boys put in an outstanding effort and fought all the way to the final whistle going down 6 tries to 4.
The day was all about learning and coming together as a team. This is a champion team, they fought hard with and for each other, they learned something every game and improved out of sight and their effort and attitude all day was nothing short of brilliant. Thank you to all the parents and supporters who cheered us on all day. I am looking forward to seeing these boys grow and develop in the future well done boys.

Year 7 Camp
Last week, our Year 7 students embarked on an adventure at Camp Maranatha in Yandina. This unique camp allowed them to bond, explore, and challenge themselves through various outdoor activities set in the picturesque bushland of the Gubbi Gubbi people's traditional lands.
At Camp Maranatha, students participated in activities designed to foster teamwork, resilience, and personal growth. From the thrill of the Leap of Faith to the exhilaration of the Giant Swing, they were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones. It was wonderful to see them form new bonds and support each other throughout these challenges.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated teachers and support staff who attended the camp. Their hard work and enthusiasm were instrumental in making this camp a success. We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 students for embracing every challenge and opportunity at camp with enthusiasm and resilience.
This week, back at school, Ms Gallen led students in a gratitude activity where they reflected on the highlights and opportunities from camp. As part of this activity, students wrote letters of thanks to those who made their camp experience memorable. It was uplifting to hear the stories, experiences, and memories shared by our students.
We look forward to see how these experiences will continue to empower year 7 students throughout the school year.
Warm regards,

Kokoda Challenge - Year 7
Last Sunday, 18 dedicated teams from Lindisfarne took part in the Kokoda Challenge, an 18-kilometre hike that demanded not just physical endurance but also teamwork and resilience. Our teams, tired from a week of camp arrived at Mahers 8.00am, full of anticipation. We travelled by bus to D’Aguilla National Park in Brookfield. At 11.00am we were on the start line. We listened to the Ode of Remembrance and stood in silence as the bugle played the last post. Reminding us of the lives lost and the battles fought on the Kokoda Trail during World War 2.
The course tested our limits with its demanding terrain. A formidable hill stood in our path, pushing us to our physical limits, and a drizzle of rain added to the challenge, making the ground slippery and our steps uncertain. Despite these obstacles, our teams pressed on, averaging four hours to complete the course. This accomplishment was not just about individual stamina; it was a testament to our reliance on each other. We supported and motivated one another, exemplifying the spirit of camaraderie that is the cornerstone of this event.
The Kokoda Challenge is much more than a physical test. It is a tribute to the incredible sacrifices of the generations before us, especially the brave Diggers who defended Australian soil in Papua New Guinea during World War II. This event offers us a profound opportunity to grasp, in a small way, the hardships they endured. As we hiked, we were reminded of their endurance and courage, drawing inspiration from their legacy to push ourselves beyond our perceived limits.
Through this experience, we not only honoured our history but also forged stronger bonds within our teams. The Kokoda Challenge is a powerful reminder of the values of perseverance, teamwork, and respect for our past. It is an honour to participate in such a meaningful event. We would like to thank all of the parents and teachers who volunteered to be team leaders. We look forward to 2025 and taking on 30km.

Judith Krause Visit
This week our Year 5 and Year 6 students attended a number of presentations delivered by Judith Krause, With post graduate qualifications in behavioural science, clinical social work, sexual health and adolescent health and wellbeing, Judith has been developing and facilitating programs in relationships, parenting, pubertal development, body safety and sexuality education for more than 20 years.
She is a sought-after speaker, with a love of life-long learning. A seasoned facilitator, Judith created a learning environment that was inclusive and she built a healthy and trusting rapport with our students to encourage active participation. Judith’s comprehensive program included strategies to assist decision-making, communication skills, healthy boundaries, anxiety management and understanding the changes that come about through puberty.
The students participated in sessions that were mixed among classes and then broken into female and male groups. Judith provided a learning and sharing environment that was secure and safe. The students learnt about the importance of listening to their bodies, believing in themselves, setting healthy boundaries and to make connections with the trusted adults in their lives to guide and support them through the many stages of adolescence.

Head Of Senior School
As we approach the “pointy end” of Year 12, it is imperative that our Senior Students demonstrate productive work habits. While many of our students engage wholeheartedly in their lessons and subsequent study periods, there remains a concern for those who do not use their time effectively. Our Year 12s have a limited amount of time left at school, and it is crucial that we see increased evidence of strong work practices during this final push.
To this end, I have requested a comprehensive report from our subject Directors detailing the current achievements of our Year 12 cohort. This includes strategies to support students who are under-performing. However, this endeavour will only succeed with the active participation of both parents and students. The years of advice and training provided to our students must now be put to good use.
Students, it is time to demonstrate your gratitude for the opportunities you have been given by investing wholeheartedly in your studies. Your future is shaped by the choices you make today, and the effort you put into your education now will pay dividends in the future.
Equally important is our unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where differences are not just tolerated but celebrated. Our strict no-bullying policy is not just a part of our ethos, it is our ethos. It is one of the key aspects I emphasise when speaking with prospective families, and it is a promise we make to our students and their parents. It is, therefore, disheartening to occasionally learn that some students fall short of these standards. Unkind words and actions can cause immeasurable damage, and the Senior School remains steadfast in our mission to eradicate such behaviour.
We need the active involvement of our entire community to reinforce this critical message. Parents, your role in this is not just important; it is crucial. The values of Compassion, Wisdom, and Respect must be echoed and lived at home to ensure our students internalise and live by these principles. Your support is key to maintaining our school's safe and welcoming environment.
I ask that we all rise to the occasion, embrace our differences, and strive for excellence. Together, we can create a community where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed.

Year 9 Camp Kokoda
Camp Kokoda - Lake Maroon QLD
We were blessed with outstanding weather for our 2024 camp with the sun shining upon our camp groups undertaking new challenges and adventures. Thanks to all of our staff and students for your positive contributions to a wonderful week! Here are some reflections from our Rite Journey Groups.
Year 9 camp was an amazing experience. As someone who isn’t very outdoorsy, I wasn’t too keen on going, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I’d expected. We had peaceful conversations by the fire at night, almost in darkness, flames flickering in the fire pit. Without the telegraph poles, tall buildings and street lamps, there was nothing to obscure the sky—and there were so many stars. On the second day, we woke up in a hilltop camp, and I watched the sun rise above the line of the horizon. Time almost moved at a different pace for us. On Wednesday night, Chamber Strings was rehearsing without me, but it felt like there was nothing outside of our little camp. The world seemed so small. Coming back home on the bus and catching up with a friend I hadn’t talked to for a long time—because of our separate groups—made me appreciate her a lot more than I already did. I may not really like doing physical activities that much, but the Year 9 Camp was really rewarding and left me with some great memories.
Mitsuki Burgener - Year 9 Student
The Year 9 camp was better than I expected. We loved getting to know our instructors, who were supportive and encouraging of us to overcome challenges. They made the activities safe and achievable. I loved becoming closer with my group and making new friendships. An insight from camp was that sometimes I complain more than I need to, and I have learned not to worry too much about things before they happen.
Dr Dann and Miss Cusack's Group
Camp Kokoda last week was an enjoyable experience and is up there with one of the best camps yet. Going to camp I had low expectations, especially for water and food supplies, but it managed to surprise me as we were all fed highly nutritious meals. The activities done at camp were fun as they all had an exciting twist to them. One thing I enjoyed about our instructors is that they never told us what was going to happen and let us find out by doing and not asking. School camp this year was really fun and I'm glad I got to go and make new friends in my Rite Journey class.
Mr Leach’s Group
The advice I would give to future students is: Just go to camp, even if you don’t want to. It was a great experience, you grow closer to people and make new friends that you will have for the rest of your school life.
Dr Dann and Miss Cusack's Group
The camp was amazing, spending time with a group where I only know a couple of them in a place far different from anything I do at home. Working hard to get to the places we needed to get to. Trying various new things and experiencing different situations brought a new ‘side’ of life I have been looking for. Sitting around campfires at night and talking to nice people you are getting to know them better. Amazing food every night, it was perfect. If there were anything I could change about camp it would be to fit in all the activities that we might have missed out on, because it would've brought new teamwork aspects and joyful moments for everyone.

Ahurumginanya - Year 11 Camp
Ahurumginanya (I see you with my eyes) was the buzzword at Maroochy Waterfront - home for four days to Year 11 for their 2024 Leadership Camp.
After a taxing series of boot camp activities, students willingly opened their hearts to one another as they gathered to meet the wonderful Damo and the Character Builders team. The team led Year 11 through a series of challenging personal growth activities that saw the group see one another through new eyes. As a result, when Reverend Constantine introduced them to the idea of Ahurumginanya, everyone understood what he was talking about.
Fabulous weather - yes, it did rain, but somehow it only seemed to do it when everyone was inside - saw smaller groups enthusiastically hit the high ropes course. A long trek followed to the beach for a series of challenges that to casual observers might have looked like a whole lot of fun. Of course, fun was involved, but nonetheless, it was tricky working together to work out how to move half the team to the right side of a very low bar in a type of reverse Limbo.
The ‘life aquatic’ called and a series of water activities (swimming with life jackets on is harder than it sounds) filled the days. Working together to get dragon boats up to speed was fun again (especially when water pistols were involved).
The camp highlight was the mock formal, dinner with a twist. With the help of glam dresses, high heels, hair straighteners and some very sharp suits, students transformed into a stylish crowd. Roses on the tables, chair covers, black and white decorations and wait staff in their black and whites (all of whom seemed to bear a startling resemblance to Lindisfarne teaching staff) serving and clearing meals, the evening moved to hours of dancing.
Day Four saw a tired but happy group climb onto strangely quiet buses for the long drive home.
‘Best camp ever’, I have spoken to people I haven’t spoken to since Year 8’, ‘ I don’t know why we drew apart,’ and ‘I forgot how kind she was,’ seemed to be the wrap-up theme of students’ reflections.
By the time they waved goodbye to the team, Character Builders drew a new maturity from Year 11. There were some sad goodbyes as they waved us off.
Thank you to Mrs Cathy Myers, Mr Dan Robbins and Mrs Hayley McDonald for putting together and running a great camp. Even staff enjoyed themselves!

Sport News
Lots of sports chugging out the door after our camp week - as per usual. Our Year 10 Volleyballers took part in the QLD Schools Volleyball Cup, doing very well it must be said. Our Cross Country
John Cadman, Lewis Saunders and Damien Clucas have been coaching at the NSWCIS Football Championships, with lots of Lindisfarne students slotting into the NCIS teams across Open Boys, Open Girls and U16 Boys. Our region has been making massive progress at this tournament, which is a David and Goliath type battle each year with the vastly smaller spread of schools NCIS can select from.
The NCIS Open Boys came 2nd - which is unbelievable and far surpasses previous result, finishing above huge associations such as AICES, GPS, ISA, CSSA - with only CAS finishing above them in first place - which was a 0-1 loss when they played.
Our Open Girls and U16 Boys were also incredibly resilient and staunch, in very even games across the board, albeit without the scoreboard working in their favour.
Congratulations to Hugo McAteer who was selected as NSWCIS striker for the NSW All Schools. Max Bruinberg and James Campbell were picked as the shadow representatives for CIS - and maybe called upon.
Both our undefeated Bill Turner Football teams play next week on 13 June - with the boys to play a very tough fixture vs Emmanuel College, and the girls drawn to play Kingscliff High School.
NSWCIS Cross Country has also taken place this week in what was scheduled to be a very wet event. Details in next week's newsletter when they come to hand. Big thanks to Mr Matthew Osmond for his regular and sustained training of our students on our killer track, which should have our kids cherry ripe!
QLD Volleyball Intermediate Schools Cup
For the first time ever, Lindisfarne entered a team into the Queensland Intermediate Schools Cup Tournament that took place from May 31st to June 2nd. The Year 10 boys came off a huge week on Moreton Island and were ready to play on the Friday after camp. Throughout the tournament, the team grew exponentially. For many of the boys, it was their first time playing in a volleyball tournament of that level. By the end of the tournament, the boys were playing some exceptional three-hit volleyball. The experience has given them a renewed love of the sport and dedication to continue to train for the Queensland Senior Schools Cup in August, and the Australian Schools Cup in December. If you are interested in joining the volleyball team as we grow the program, please see Mrs McLeish in the B-Block Staffroom or Ms Priestley in the Sports Department.
Australian Interschools Surfing Championships
The inaugural Australian Interschools Surfing Championships was held recently at Nobbys Beach on the Gold Coast. From May 22nd to May 24th, young surfers from schools across the nation showcased their talent and sportsmanship in this exciting event.
The journey commenced with a symbolic gesture of unity at the Broadbeach Cultural Centre on Wednesday, May 22nd. Schools brought jars of sand from their local beaches, which were combined in a mixing ceremony, signifying the coming together of diverse coastal communities for a common passion: surfing.
On Thursday, the boys took to the water for the Tag Team division with Lindisfarne fielding two Junior and three Senior teams. On Friday, it was our girls opportunity to showcase their talents and our sole Junior and Senior teams did just that. Each team, comprising three surfers, battled it out, with their best individual scores combined after a thrilling 30-minute period. Adding an extra layer of strategy, the final surfer had to return to the interchange area before the heat time expired to secure an additional three points.
In the Junior Boys division, Team Mohatus carved their way to a commendable 5th place in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the Fangs, represented by Lachlan Arghyros, Bowie Robinson, and Kyotaro Shimbutsu, clinched 5th place in the Junior finals.
Among the Senior boys, Team Thors rode the waves to a respectable 6th place in their semi-final heat. Not to be outdone, the Senior Girls team Sikaras showcased exceptional talent, securing a remarkable 2nd place in their final, led by Ava Arghyros, Ivy Parsons, and Dahlia Alagich.
Individual events for both boys and girls ran concurrently with the Tag Team divisions. With surfers vying for supremacy, every wave counted. In an outstanding display of skill, Ava emerged triumphant, seizing first place in the fiercely contested Senior Girls division.
However, the competition was just as fierce in the boys ' Individual divisions, with only the top surfer from each heat progressing. Lindisfarne surfers, including Kyotaro, Oska Martin, Tommy Horn, and Jackson Mater, narrowly missed out on first place, finishing in a commendable 2nd in their heats. Despite their best efforts, Bowie and Marv Freeman were unfortunate to be knocked out in the semi-finals. In a heart-stopping finale, Lachlan held the lead for the majority of the Junior boys final, only to be pipped at the post in the dying seconds by two fellow competitors who posted marginally higher scores.
The Australian Interschools Surfing Championships showcased not only the incredible talent of young surfers but also the resilience and sportsmanship they embody. Congratulations to all of Lindisfarnes participants for their outstanding performances.

Myla (Year 9) achieved a remarkable result at the NSW All Schools Swimming competition, securing a third-place medal in the Girls 12-14 years 200m Butterfly event. Congratulations, Myla!
Spotlight on Riley Johnston
Riley (Year 8) competed in the 2024 All Schools Swimming Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Thursday 30th & Friday 31st May. His results were as follows:
100BK - 1st
50BK - 1st
100BR- 1st
200BR - 2nd
50BR - 2nd
50FR - 3rd
200IM - 3rd
He has made it through for all events for School Nationals, from the 27th-31st July at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, apart from the 200IM. There was such a tight turnaround between the 50BR, 100BK , 50FR and then the 200IM (literally 15mins). The time for second place in the 200IM was 2:20:36 and Riley came third with a 2:20:38. They only take the top two finalists for 100 and 200 metre events. Some amazing swimming results and effort from Riley!
Spotlight on Lucas Howarth
Lucas (Year 6) had a great week in Newcastle as part of the NSW CIS hockey team playing in the NSW PSSA tournament. It was a wonderful experience with new friends established and skills developed. They played 2 games each day resulting in his team placing 3rd in their pool and 6th overall out of 13 teams.
AFL
AFLQ Cup
Last Friday, May 31st, our Primary Boys and Girls teams participated in the AFLQ Cup event at the Cavanbah Centre in Byron Bay. It was a fantastic showing by both teams, demonstrating their skills and teamwork throughout the competition.
Both the boys and girls teams managed to progress to the Grand Final in their respective competitions. While the girls narrowly lost in a hard-fought match, the boys secured a commanding win, showcasing their dominance on the field.
We are thrilled to announce that both teams will now have the opportunity to progress to the next stage of the competition, which will be held in mid-August on the Gold Coast.
Congratulations to all the boys and girls who participated and did our school proud with their excellent performances and sportsmanship.

NSW AICES U16 and U18 BOYS RUGBY TRIALS
We had a number of Lindisfarne boys travel down to Sydney to represent North Coast Independent Schools (NCIS) in the NSW AICES U16 and U18 boys rugby trials. All Lindisfarne students gave a great account for themselves in these trials and from this, our school has had five boys selected for the NSW AICES U16 and U18 squads (this would be the equivalent of a NSW CIS selection). From here, they will have a camp late in June and then play against other NSW school associations (e.g., NSW CHS, NSW GPS) for selection in two NSW schoolboy teams.

NSW PRIMARY 7s STATE FINAL
Last Friday saw our U12 boys team compete at the NSW Primary 7’s State Finals. With only one training session behind us, we were unsure what to expect. The 13 boys who attended, all stood up and played some incredible rugby. The defence was outstanding and we scored some brilliant team and individual tries.
We managed to go through our three pool games unbeaten, getting us through to the semi-finals where we scored a last minute try to win the game and make our way to the grand final.
In the final we were out played by a better team but were still in the game at half-time when the score was 7-12 but the opposition pulled away in the second half.
The day was topped off by receiving some special treatment at the Waratahs vs Reds Super Rugby match at Allianz Stadium with the team allowed on the field for the warm up and being part of the guard of honour for the teams running onto the ground.
A great couple of days were had by players, staff and parents. A special shout out to Dean Arghyros who unfortunately got injured in our final pool game but showed immense bravery and kept smiling whilst still able to enjoy the experience at Allianz Stadium.
Pool Games:
Won vs Northern Beaches Christian School 12-0
Won vs Budgewoi PS 19-10
Won vs Scone 33-5
Semi Final:
Won vs St Augustine’s 26-24
Final:
Lost vs Narraweena 7-29

Club Representative Honours
Ruby Power - Gold Coast Cyclones Senior Women's Squad Captain and South East Queensland Representation
One of our standout rugby players, Ruby Power, who represents the school and also plays for Bond University, has recently been selected and played as captain of the Gold Coast Cyclones Senior Women's rugby XV team that competed in the South East QLD Championships. Certainly a great honour at such a young age!!!
From the South East QLD Champs, Ruby had then been asked to represent South East Queensland at senior level in the QLD Country Championships, however she has decided she will play in her age grade (U18) in the country champs.
Bailey Le Brese - Gold Coast Titans representative at NRL Indigenous Youth Summit
Another one of our students, Bailey Le Brese, has recently attended the week-long NRL Indigenous Youth Summit in Sydney as one of the representatives for the Gold Coast Titans.
The Indigenous Youth Summit is an annual event that brings together teenagers from NSW, Queensland, Victoria and New Zealand for a week of cultural and educational activities, which culminated in the Bulldogs vs. Dragons NRL Indigenous Round match on May 23rd. The long-term aims of the program are to ensure young Indigenous Australians have the confidence and the skills to pursue their ambitions in life. It is hoped the teenagers like Bailey that attend the camp pass the lessons of this week on to their communities and schools when they return.

Monday After School Training
In 2024, our main training session outside of school time is on Monday after school from 1530-1645. Although we have had good numbers to our term 1 training sessions, rugby union is a team sport and we still need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program in term 2. Hopefully, the car-pooling details will help this and if we can be of assistance in any way, please let us know.
Also, please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume our Monday afternoon training will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know in ample time if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.
Training Attire
Students should also be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session, including school sport. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar and not the school sport polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.
Stack Team APP
The Stack Team app will be our Rugby Union program’s main form of communication for all our squads, with exception of U12 boys.
As a reminder, both parents and Boy’s U13, U15, 1st XVs and 7’s and Girl’s 7s students who have parental permission for smartphones will need to download the app and join the Lindisfarne Rugby Program in the app.
To download the Stack team app, use the following links:
● iOS: https://www.teamapp.com/ios-ap...
● Android: https://www.teamapp.com/androi...
Once downloaded, please search for 'Lindisfarne Rugby Program' and request to join.
Lindisfarne Rugby X Bond University Colts - Front Row Training
Our Lindisfarne Rugby Program is very lucky to have been given a standing invitation for any of our front row players to train with Bond University Colts on Wednesday nights as a part of their units block. This block is a 35 min block starting from 1845 with lineout primers and then moving into scrum work from 1900. If you are interested in this opportunity, please let us know and we can pass on more details.
Integrated School Sport Selections
With term 3 integrated school sport (Thursday) selections open, all students wanting to play rugby 7s for the school OR continue training rugby should select Rugby for term 3. This is for both boys and girls and even if not in the current squads, students are still welcome to join and should select rugby for school sport.
For the boys, we will have Open Boys (U18), U16, U15, U14 and U13 squads competing in NSW and QLD tournaments next term. For the girls, we will have Open Girls, U16, and U15 squads competing in NSW and QLD tournaments next term. For more details on fixtures, please check the key dates HERE.

The annual Smithy Sprint event at our school was a resounding success, with over 200 students from Years 5 to 12 lacing up their runners to tackle the challenging hill course. This eagerly anticipated event saw students and staff alike participating the race which not just about speed, but also about community and participation.
While all participants should be congratulated on their remarkable achievements, special recognitions are in order for the outstanding performers in each category. Their dedication and hard work were evident as they crossed the finish line with impressive times. The overall winners in each category this year were:

Year 12 Creative Writing
During Year 12 Activities Week, students participated in an engaging hour-long creative writing workshop, designed to enhance their writing skills and ignite their passion for storytelling. The workshop included activities such as interviewing characters, creating motifs, and developing authentic settings. In the character interviews, students delved deep into their characters' backgrounds and personalities, bringing them to life through animated discussions. They then explored the concept of motifs, learning to incorporate recurring elements that add symbolic depth to their narratives. The workshop left students inspired and equipped with new tools for their writing, with many expressing newfound confidence in their creative abilities.

Gold Coast Debating
The Intermediate A Team had an exciting debate and fought strongly on the affirmative side with their model regarding the topic:
The Australian Curriculum should be more relevant to today’s students
Alex, Tessa, Ben and Nicolas debated with a model that proposed the Australian Curriculum be revised every four years to ensure the relevancy of topics, texts, and information used to educate the young people of today. They acknowledged the ever-growing nature of society and the need to best equip our young people with the skills necessary to flourish and succeed in the modern world. They came home with a win after receiving high praise from the adjudicator regarding their manner and their model.
Great work, team; we are charging forward and getting better with every debate.
Miss Whitesides
English Teacher and Debating Coach
Lindisfarne’s Junior A Team produced another excellent showing at their short preparation debate at All Saints last night, maintaining their perfect unbeaten record to storm into the finals. A close victory, our Junior A Team presented a cohesive and engaging affirmative argument for the topic: The current Australian Curriculum is sufficiently relevant for today’s students.
Beatrice Broad continued her excellent start to her Middle School debating journey, speaking beautifully and engaging her audience to open her team’s case. The affirmative first speaker is widely known as the toughest role in debating, but Beatrice has taken this on successfully on a number of occasions. Aziah Phoenix-Coy followed as the second speaker, balancing a series of well-considered arguments (his technology point being the highlight) with damning rebuttals. Aziah spoke at his most measured and well-paced for the season so far, an area which continues to improve his abilities. Taylor Van Niekerk was again the third speaker, addressing the previous arguments of her team and presenting some scathing rebuttals. Taylor’s positive and confident delivery is a great strength and she has impressed her teammates and adjudicators alike all season. Niamh Glasson was a steadying presence as a timekeeper, and while not in a speaking role, her contributions during just 90 minutes of preparation time were invaluable. The team is lucky to have you Niamh!
LAGS Junior A Team are now entering the finals, an exciting time for all involved. If you happen to see these students around school, feel free to congratulate them and wish them well for their upcoming finals.

Invitation To Host Students From Japan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Hokkaido Australia Society (HAS), established in 1982, aims to promote meaningful cultural exchange and study abroad experiences for young people. HAS organises and operates programs to send junior and senior high school students from Hokkaido to Australia, fostering international education and cooperation.
We are pleased to announce that 20 junior high school students from Hokkaido will be visiting Lindisfarne and our surrounding community from 28 July to 4 August. This homestay opportunity is part of HAS's mission to create lasting international friendships and cultural understanding. The students selected to attend these cultural experiences are chosen through a scholarship selection process. Many of these students come from modest backgrounds and are extremely grateful for the opportunity.
Hosting a student offers a unique chance for your family to learn about Japanese culture and share the warmth of Australian hospitality with our visiting students. Join us in this enriching experience and help make a difference in the lives of young students, fostering a spirit of global community and mutual respect.
For more information on how to participate, please contact us. We look forward to your support and participation in this exciting cultural exchange program. If you are interested in hosting, please email Mr Jeremy Godden at jgodden@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au as soon as possible.
