Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
As we continue to navigate through Term 3, this week has been particularly vibrant with significant events and achievements. I am pleased to share the highlights and extend my gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this week a success.
We have just concluded a fantastic week of NAIDOC celebrations, an important time to acknowledge and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. A special thank you to Katrina Singh, our First Nations Cultural Engagement Coordinator, for organising a wonderful array of activities. These events not only educated, but also enriched our school community, fostering a deeper appreciation and respect for our nation's first peoples.
On Monday, we held our Stage 6 Parent Teacher Interviews. I would like to thank all parents and staff who attended these sessions. These discussions are crucial for supporting our students' educational journeys, providing valuable insights and feedback that help pave the way for their success. The strong relationship between the School and parents is fundamental, as it ensures we work collaboratively to support and nurture our students' development and achievements.
This week's Principal’s Tour at Mahers Lane was a tremendous success, drawing a great number of interested parents and prospective students. It's always exciting to see so many families considering Lindisfarne for their child. The enthusiasm and interest in our school underscore the strong community and educational excellence we strive to uphold. With many of the families who toured citing “word-of-mouth” and our School’s reputation as key reasons for choosing Lindisfarne, it is clear that many families are in our community sharing their positive stories about their experiences at Lindisfarne, for this, we thank you.
It’s been a busy and rewarding week in representative sports. Our students participated in various competitions with impressive spirit and skill:
Our U13, U14, U15, and U16 girls and boys teams competed in the NSW Champ of Champs in Coffs Harbour.
The senior girls took part in the AFLQ Cup Quarter Final in Ormeau.
The Year 7-12 Rugby NSW Secondary 7's Regional Final featured our U14, U16, and U18 teams in Evans Head.
Congratulations to all participants for showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship. Please check this week’s Sports Report for details and results.
We are incredibly proud of Flynn Southam, our distinguished alumnus, who has won a Silver medal in the men's 4 x 100m relay and a Bronze in the 4 x 200m relay at the Paris Olympics. Flynn's performances were nothing short of spectacular, and he continues to inspire our community with his achievements on the global stage.
Looking ahead, we are also immensely proud of Jeff Dunne, a dedicated Grade 11 student here at Lindisfarne, as he prepares for an extraordinary opportunity at the Paris Olympics. Jeff is set to compete in Breaking, a sport making its Olympic debut this year. Balancing the demands of being an athlete and a student, Jeff manages an intense schedule that includes not only rigorous training sessions and strength conditioning but also maintaining his academic commitments. Juggling homework, studies, and his training regimen, Jeff demonstrates remarkable discipline and resilience. It's a significant achievement for him to qualify for the Olympics at just 16 years old, reflecting his passion and dedication to both his sport and his education. We are delighted to be able to support Jeff on his sporting and academic journey through the Matt Fydler Sports Academy. Go Jeff! I’ll certainly be setting an alarm to get up and watch you do you thing on August 11.
We are all behind Jeff as he steps onto the global stage, and we can't wait to support him as he represents Australia and showcases the talent and hard work that have brought him this far.
Our FunFest on Saturday, August 24th is fast approaching. This event promises a day filled with fun, rides, and community spirit. It's a perfect opportunity for Lindisfarne families and the local community to come together and enjoy a day of celebration. Please keep selling those raffle tickets and purchase your ride tickets early. Funfest is always a great day of fundraising and friendraising for the Lindisfarne community.
I had the absolute privilege of attending the 2024 HSC Drama Showcase on Thursday evening. The talent and effort on display was, quite simply, amazing. Thank you to the students for sharing your talents with us and to Mrs Katie Otto for organising the event.
Finally, I want to thank all of our wonderful families who have generously hosted our lovely visitors from Hokkaido as part of the Hoakkaido Australia Society’s cultural immersion tour to Australia. It’s heartwarming to know we have such willing families who join in these experiences and share a little bit of our way of life with others from across the globe. A huge thank you also to the Lindisfarne Cultural Buddies who have worked tirelessly during their school days to show our visitors around and make them feel so welcome.
As we look forward to another productive week, I want to thank each one of you for your continuous support and involvement in our school’s activities. Your participation greatly enriches our community and enhances the educational experience for all our students.
Have a great weekend, and take some time to rest and recharge.

Chaplain's Column
Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Guardians,
Every day is a new day! Every new month represents a new beginning, a new challenge and a new opportunity. As Maya Angelou said, “this is a wonderful day; I have never seen this one before.”
As we begin a new month, let us take a moment to rejoice in the gift of life, with all its joys and struggles.
Let us become more aware of the fragility and beauty of life, and how joy and sorrow are mingled daily in our lives and in every life.
Life truly begins when we stop resisting what is, and embrace and thank all there’s for being.
I’m writing from Melbourne as part of the delegation representing our School at the annual Anglican Schools Australia Conference this week. I’m thankful for the chance to learn, reflect, grow and share ideas with chaplains, principals, educators, colleagues and friends working in all the Anglican Schools across Australia that nurture and educate nearly a quarter of a million young Australians.
It’s a joy to see the unwavering commitment from Anglican Schools’ educators towards holistic development of our young people which emphasises the importance of nurturing not only their intellectual, physical and emotional lives, but also their relational and spiritual lives.
Let us pray for all those who are involved in the education of young people, both here in Australia and around the world: that the Lord may grant them wisdom, love, joy, dedication and fulfilment in their invaluable work.
Let us also pray that our young people may treasure their ‘one wild and precious lives’ (Mary Oliver), realise that they are ‘a universe of infinite possibilities’ (Don Milani), and grow up knowing ‘who they are and whose they are.’
Please remember to join us for the Spiritual Gym on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 4.30pm for refreshments, followed by Family Eucharist and spiritual nourishment.
A Prayer for the Weekend
Glory be to you, O God,
For the gift of life
Unfolding through those who have gone before me.
Glory be to you, O God,
For your life planted within my soul
And in every soul coming into the world.
Glory be to you, O God,
For the grace of new beginnings
Placed before me in every moment and encounter of life.
Glory, glory, glory
For the grace of new beginnings in every moment of life. Amen.
May we continue to be grateful for who we are to each other, for all we have and the blessings that we share in our beloved Lindisfarne community.

FunFest - Win a Car
FunFest, the Lindisfarne Parents and Friends School Fair, is fast approaching and will be held on Saturday, 24 August at the Mahers Lane campus.
One of the major events at FunFest is the Car Raffle. This year, we are raffling off the amazing MG3 hatch, valued at $19,990, supplied by Victory Organisation Group.
Each family will be given a book of tickets to sell, which will be sent home with the oldest child. Each book contains five raffle tickets, with the first four (4) to be sold at $25 each. The fifth ticket in each book is a ‘free family ticket’ to be filled in once the family has sold the first four (4) tickets in the book. You must sell all the other tickets to redeem the final ticket.
The book and the money are then returned to reception at either campus, ready for the raffle draw at FunFest. As an extra incentive, every family that returns their fully sold book will also be entered to win a PS5 donated by JB Hi Fi, our technology partners.
To assist families, they can return the money from fully sold books online by using the QR Code below, or by clicking on this link.
https://www.trybooking.com/CTWXE
This will help minimise the number of students coming to school with money. Please note individual tickets cannot be redeemed online.
If you want more chances to win, you can request additional books by emailing smckinley@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au
The distribution of raffle books has commenced today and will continue early next week. Please follow these simple steps to support the Lindisfarne Parents and Friends.
1: Check with the oldest in the family to confirm if they have their raffle book
2: Sell the first four tickets for $25 each ($100 total)
3: Fill in the fifth ticket with our thanks for supporting this raffle
4: Return the $100 and the raffle book to Reception at either campus. Use the online
payment option where possible (QR Code below).
5: Come to FunFest on Saturday, 24 August
6: Be in the running WIN a car or a PS5
PLEASE NOTE: All unsold raffle books must be returned.
Thank you for supporting the Lindisfarne Parents and Friends Association as they work to support our students.

The Round Square Heroes of Discovery
As Week 2 comes to a close, our Junior School students have continued their exploration of Sustainability Suki and her character traits.
In classrooms, students engaged in conversations about the importance of protecting our environment, respecting living things and using the earth’s resources responsibly whether at home, at school, or within the community.
Below, you’ll find some examples shared by our K-4 students showcasing the ways in which they demonstrate the character traits of Sustainability Suki.
We look forward to recognising and celebrating our students’ efforts to embody the admirable character traits of the Heroes of Discovery at our Week 3 Junior School assembly.

100 Days of Kindy
Something amazing happened in Kindergarten on Friday, 26 July. All of our cute little five and six year-old boys and girls turned into 100 year-old grannies and grandads! Beryl and Betty, Cecil and Arthur, Chester and Joyce and so many others arrived to celebrate this milestone day in Kindergarten.
The sun shone brightly through the trees and in the dappled shade, we made fairy bread using 100s and 1000s, managed to do 100 exercises without breaking a hip and filled in a 100 chart all the way to 100 without our memories failing us! What a day.
Not only did our Kindergarten friends come dressed for the part, but parents and grandparents joined in the fun. It was a wonderful celebration of all that these little humans have achieved in their first 100 days of formal schooling. To think that just 100 days ago, they could barely hold a pencil or count to 5, to now being able to read and write and count to 100 - what a phenomenal leap in learning and knowledge they have made. We Kindy teachers are so proud of each and every one of them.
We look forward to what the remaining days of kindergarten bring for our students.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations
This week at the Junior School, our students engaged in a range of activities and learning experiences to celebrate NAIDOC Week. This year’s theme, ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud’ allowed students to recognise and honour the rich and enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture.
To begin our celebrations, Katrina Singh led our students through an art workshop, creating a Junior School collaborative artwork that beautifully captured this year’s theme. During Chapel, our students were amazed by a local Indigenous artist called Birren who performed three songs. Throughout the week, teachers facilitated discussions and provided opportunities for students to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
We look forward to continuing to honour and celebrate the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the Junior School.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day - Jarjum’s Day
Children’s Day is a time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities and all Australians, celebrate the strengths and culture of our children. It is an opportunity for us to show our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
The date, 4 August was historically used to communally celebrate the birthday of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families at a young age, without knowing their birthday – the Stolen Generation.
We are very fortunate to have on staff in the Preschool, Gypsy Togo (also a proud Biripai woman and Lindisfarne parent) who helped us facilitate some activities for the children to experience the Indigenous culture of Australia. Gypsy taught us all some Indigenous language, songs and dancing. A very big thank you to Michelle Donohue who is a tireless advocate for the integration of Indigenous culture throughout our Program.
We will continue to embed Indigenous perspectives into our daily learning activities in the Preschool.

Stage 3 News
Lindisfarne currently has the pleasure of hosting a group of Japanese exchange students, who brought a unique cultural experience to our Stage 3 students this week. Our Stage 3 students had the opportunity to watch an impressive karate demonstration that captivated both students and staff.
The exchange students, skilled in the traditional martial art of karate, showcased a series of techniques and forms, demonstrating discipline, focus, and precision. Our Stage 3 students watched in awe as the visitors performed kata (a series of choreographed movements), giving everyone a glimpse into the depth and beauty of this ancient art form.
After the demonstration, our students had the opportunity to participate in a brief Q&A session with our Japanese visitors, where they learnt about Japanese school life and culture.
Arigatou gozaimasu to our new Japanese friends for this wonderful experience!

Food Technology - Year 8 Masterchef
Year 8 students have truly outdone themselves this Semester, showcasing their culinary talents by creating a variety of outstanding recipes. The judges faced a tough challenge in selecting the winning dish, as every student put in a great effort to craft meals that could be suitable for the school canteen, using ingredients from our very own school garden.
The students explored various cuisines, preparing dishes inspired by Mexican, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Asian fusion flavours. Their creativity and enthusiasm were evident in every bite.
From our 8.9 class, we had two standout winners: Pork and Tofu Charcoal Bao Buns and Firecracker Chicken. The judges were impressed with the impeccable presentation and the spot-on flavours from each team.
From the 8.4 class, our winners prepared a creamy butter chicken, with the judges once again praising the fantastic presentation.
Congratulations to all the students for their hard work and delicious creations!

Getting Started with Japanese
Semester 2 marks an exciting beginning for our Middle School students as they embark on their new language journey, whether in French or Japanese. Embracing the challenge, students are diving in with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Those starting with Japanese have already begun to introduce themselves in Japanese, crafted origami samurai helmets, and experienced the art of making matcha green tea using traditional tea whisks and other implements as part of their “How do you do…?” unit, where they will be preparing ‘How to’ videos of things they love to do. This immersive approach is all about engaging with the language, having a go, and enjoying the learning process. We look forward to seeing their skills flourish!

From the Head of Senior School
As Year 12 students prepare for their HSC Trial Examinations starting next week, our Year 11 students are now considering their leadership opportunities for Term 4 and beyond. On Thursday, the Head of Senior School addressed the Year 11 cohort, emphasizing the immense value and necessity of pushing beyond comfort zones. It is in these moments of discomfort that the most significant growth and development occur.
Year 11 students were encouraged to apply for formal leadership roles, with an emphasis on the courage and willingness to embrace challenges required for these positions. The application process is now open, and students have until next week to submit their online applications.
It is important to acknowledge that not every Year 11 student will receive a formal leadership role. However, it is crucial to understand that one doesn't need a badge to lead. Leadership comes in many forms, and there are countless opportunities to lead and effect change without holding a formal title. Each senior student has an important leadership role within their House Tutor Groups. The vertical tutor system is designed to foster this dynamic, allowing older students to guide and mentor their younger peers.
Leadership is not just about titles and positions; it is about actions and influence. Whether or not a student holds a formal role, their contribution to the school community is invaluable. By setting positive examples, supporting peers, and embodying the values of Compassion, Wisdom, and Respect, each student can make a significant impact.
As the School looks ahead to the future, it encourages all students to reflect on how they can lead in their own unique ways. Embracing opportunities to step out of comfort zones, supporting one another, and striving for personal growth are all essential. Together, the school community can create a supportive and inspiring environment that nurtures the potential in every student.
Best wishes to the Year 12s for their HSC Trial Examinations, and encouragement to the Year 11s to seize the leadership opportunities before them.

Italy Tour
On Monday, the 24th of June, our group of enthusiastic Food Technology and Textiles students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Italy to immerse ourselves in the traditional culture, textiles, and cuisine of this remarkable country. The adventure began with a 16-hour layover in Taipei, where we explored notable sights such as the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, dedicated to Taiwan's first president, and the stunning Lungshan Temple. Additionally, we delighted in sampling a variety of Taiwanese delicacies, including bubble tea, fried chicken feet, and pressed tofu.
Upon arriving in Italy, we took a train from Milan to Rome, traversing the scenic Mediterranean countryside. Rome captivated us with its rich history and its invaluable contributions to both textiles and food. We toured local markets, marvelling at the intricate textiles and sampling fresh pasta which we learned to make ourselves. The city's ancient architecture provided an inspiring backdrop as we explored the origins of Italian fabric design and culinary traditions.
In Rome, we also took part in a pizza-making class, honing our skills in crafting one of Italy’s most iconic dishes. Additionally, we experienced a walking food tour where we sampled an array of local delicacies, including fried artichokes, cured meats, and cheeses — each offering a unique taste of Roman culture.
Our next destination was Florence, a true haven for textile and culinary enthusiasts. We had the privilege of attending distinguished culinary schools, where we mastered the art of creating authentic Italian recipes such as gelato, tiramisu, and biscotti. We toured renowned landmarks such as the Pitti Palace and the Gucci Garden Museum to explore Florence's impressive contributions to both textiles and fashion. Additionally, we attended a leather-making demonstration, witnessing the artistry involved in crafting fine leather goods and understanding the importance of this tradition in Florentine culture.
We further delved into Florence's textile heritage by visiting local artisans and workshops. The intricate patterns and techniques we observed provided deep insights into the city's historical and contemporary textile arts.
Next, we traveled through the region of Bologna, where we immersed ourselves in a series of captivating culinary experiences. We visited a Prosciutto di Parma factory for a guided tour, learning about the intricate process of making this world-renowned delicacy, which can take up to three years. Our exploration continued with a visit to a Parmigiano Reggiano factory, where we discovered the meticulous methods of producing this esteemed cheese, characterized by its rich flavor and granular texture. In Modena, we savored the unique taste of traditional balsamic vinegar during a fascinating tasting session. We concluded our time in Bologna with an educational visit to a gelato university, where we gained hands-on insights into the art and science of gelato-making.
Venice followed, where we explored three of its 118 charming islands. On Murano, we witnessed a mesmerizing glass-blowing demonstration and admired the craftsmanship in creating delicate glass textiles. We also shopped for exquisite handmade glass items. Burano, famed for its vibrant, colorful houses, introduced us to a textiles museum originally a lace school. There, we discovered lace pieces featuring patterns dating back to the late 1800s, offering a peek into the meticulous artistry involved in textile creation.
Venice itself, with a history spanning over two millennia, was equally enthralling. In addition to exploring the city’s streets and canals, we visited a carnival mask shop where we learned about the historical significance and the artisanal skills involved in mask-making—a unique blend of textile and decorative arts.
Our final stop was Milan, the epicenter of fashion. Here, we toured renowned museums and fashion houses, gaining a deeper appreciation for Milanese textiles and haute couture. We experienced a fashion workshop, which included the opportunity to partake in a mini fashion shoot, trying on a range of unique designer pieces. Additionally, we embarked on a fashion tour through the high-end fashion streets of Milan, including locations where Milan Fashion Week takes place. A highlight was our visit to La Scala, the world-famous opera house, where we not only admired its rich cultural heritage but also explored the exquisite fashion pieces displayed within its halls.
We arrived back in Australia on the 8th of July, our hearts and minds enriched by the vibrant culture, intricate textiles, and exquisite cuisine we experienced. This trip was an extraordinary adventure for all involved, and we highly recommend seizing any future opportunities to explore Italy's rich traditions in food and textile arts. This journey promises unforgettable memories and new connections for anyone passionate about these fields.

Next week sees our U15 Boys football team play for a spot in the pointy end of the Bill Turner Cup. Our Touch Footballers are jetting up to Owen Park on the Gold Coast for a multiple day tournament. Then over the course of 3 days our senior Volleyball teams are playing in the QLD Schools Volleyball Cup. Finally, our Netball Girls have the Titans Secondary tournament.
NCIS Athletics lies in wait the week after (Week 4)!
Football
Next Tuesday 6, August - at 9am, we have arguably the biggest game of Football we have ever played here at Lindisfarne - with our U15 Boys team playing off for a spot in the Bill Turner Cup - round of 16 (one step before the Quarter Finals).
The Bill Turner Cup (boys) and Trophy (girls) is the biggest school knockout in Australia - across any sport - by a significant margin, with sudden death round stages from schools within Victoria, ACT, Western and Southern NSW, North Coast NSW, Brisbane and Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Nth QLD.
Our girls have already qualified in the final 16 for the Bill Turner Trophy, and are ready to roll at the multi-day tournament in Coffs Harbour - 20/21 August. Hopefully the boys join them for this stage of the tournament.
Futsal
It was an incredibly successful two days of competition at the NSW Champion of Champions futsal competition in Coffs Harbour for our teams - and we are intensely proud of the spirit in which they compete and the good character they also show off the pitch. All four teams have qualified for the Australasian Futsal Championships to be held in Brisbane later this year. This is an incredible achievement.
U14 Girls - Runners Up
The U14 girls began with dominating performances and lost a nail-biter in their last group stage game. They qualified for the final and unfortunately were unable to get across the line against John Paul College. They are an incredibly talented roster with their silky individual skills, and would fancy their chances if they had the final over once again. Big thanks to our ring-in Goal Keeper Coco Loemker for doing a fabulous job during the tournament. Well done to:
Ella Dombroski
Sana Rice
Charli Wiegand
Coco Loemker
Ivy Gilbert
Asher Poole
U13 Girls - Champions
The U13 girls also battled hard all day, playing no easy games and shaking off a tough loss early on. They managed to scrape into the final and had to play against a tough John Paul team who hadn’t dropped a game all day (including beating our girls in round 1). But a timely grand final hat-trick from Robyn Gilligan-Black saw them deservedly celebrate a 4-3 victory!
Congratulations to:
Robyn Gilligan-Black

U14 Boys
The boys opened their campaign with an impressive 7-0 victory over Great Lakes Tuncurry College. Chaz Croke-Sims stole the show with a 4-goal performance, and Noah (2) and Ethan (1) Hicks also chipped in.
Our second game was against Armidale College and a Curtis Moore hat-trick led the way to a solid 5-1 win, with Laurie Bartell and Ethan Hicks also hitting the scoresheet.
Bishop Druitt College was next in a battle of unbeaten teams. Fittingly, it finished in a 3-3 deadlock, with Chaz Croke-Sims, Curtis Moore, and Tahn Richards netting goals.
The grand final may as well be renamed ‘The Curtis Moore’ show as our captain scored 5 goals en route to a resounding 6-3 victory. Laurie Bartell made sure by adding another. It’s wonderful to hear so many compliments coming their way by opposing coaches, parents, tournament convenors, and motel staff alike. A big mention must go out to goalkeeper Saxon Chaseling. Without his impressive play, it would have been a different story.
U16 Boys
It was clear to note that this group was a classy outfit on and off the court, these young men wowed spectators all day, with a mixture of technical magic, precision shooting, and dynamic passing.
Our first game was against Armidale College. We hit the front early and didn’t look back, emerging as 7-2 victors. Goals to Jack Edwards (3), Milo Dartiguenave Johnson, Maximo Serrallach, Fletcher Bisgrove and Hayden Cooke.
Second up was John Paul College, which was a cagey affair. Ultimately, we proved too strong and secured a 4-2 triumph. Hayden Cooke scored a brace and Oscar Meulet and Milo Dartiguenave Johnson also netted.
Our third game was against an unbeaten U19 squad from Taree High School, where we truly showed our class. We beat the keeper 10 times and goalkeeper David Wallis kept an impressive clean sheet. Goals to Maximo Serrallach (2), Oscar Meulet (3), Hayden Cooke, Milo Dartguenave Johnson (2), Fletcher Bisgrove and Jack Edwards.
Our final group game was against Ku-ring-gai High School (Sydney) and we secured a comfortable 7-2 win thanks to goals from Milo Dartiguenave Johnson (3), Jack Edwards (2) Oscar Muelet, and an own goal.
The final saw a rematch with John Paul College and they came out firing and were up 3-1 late in the first half. With one second on the clock, we pulled within one going into the break. With four minutes left, we were still down, but Maximo Serrallach scored two of his four goals in the game within a span of 60 seconds to turn the game around.

RUGBY UNION PHOTOS 2024
We have our rugby union photos on Thursday next week at the start of school sport (P3). All students that have represented our school in our various XV and 7s squads will be expected to attend, especially our year 12 students. The list of students expected to attend are HERE.
This includes any students who are not in rugby union for school sport this term. For these students, if you are in a sport selection at Lindisfarne or you have a study, you will go to that sport/study after your photos are complete, whereas if you are in a sport selection that is off-site, you will remain with the rugby union group for the remainder of the sport this week.
Students are expected to have the correct Lindisfarne rugby shorts and long socks (NOT dark navy socks) for the photos and we will provide the jerseys.
TERM 3 UPDATE
As we head to Term 3, our Lindisfarne rugby program focus shifts from XVs to 7s for the boys. We will have boys 7s squads for the following age groups: U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18 and have several tournaments scheduled to compete in. Students that have not been selected in these squads are still more than welcome to attend the Monday PM training and Thursday integrated school sport training sessions and if there is enough demand, we will try to enter multiple teams in tournaments for the younger age groups. Please check the Key Dates in this document HERE. In particular mark the NSW Rugby State Finals (18th September, if qualify) and QLD All Schools 7s (26-27th October) as well as the Rugby Captains Dinner (26th September) in your calendars. Also, for all NSW Far North Coast club rugby players, please note that the QLD Rugby Sunshine Coast 7s tournament is on Friday 23rd August and if you cannot make this tournament, please inform your respective coaches ASAP.
RECENT GAMES
NSW Rugby Far North Coast 7s Tournament
Last Thursday, 25th July, our 7s squads travelled to Evan’s Head to compete in the NSW Rugby FNC 7s Tournament. This tournament served as a warm up for the NSW Rugby FNC 7s Regional Final this week.
U18 Boys
Our U18 boys played four games in a round-robin on the day, coming away with good wins against St Mary’s Catholic College Casino (30-0), Woodlawn College (20-15) and McLean High School (20-15) and a lone loss against Ballina Coast High School (10-15). Overall, there were several encouraging signs from our boys, and they have the makings of a fast and fit 7s squad. Cimarron Crawford, Will Sullivan and Flynn McCulloch were among our best players on the day, with steadfast defence and strong runs with the ball in hand. These boys were ably supported by Josh Watters, who is new to rugby union but had some very nice touches on attack and was our player of the tournament, and Sam Stovin.

Game recap, scores and photos (SD)
Our first 7s tournament of the year was a great chance to start reestablishing our game in this fast format. Our first game was a reminder of the need for tight and switched-on defence in 7s as a fast start was quickly wiped away with 2 tries in 90 seconds for Alstonville. A sharp try in the second half was enough to take a 15-10 win in our first game and an opportunity to reflect on what made our U15s team, who made up the bulk of our squad, so successful as QLD State 7s Runners up in 2023. A more switched-on team greeted Trinity and scored 4 tries in both halves to take a 40-0 win. Our final game of the tournament was against a physical and abrasive Kyogle, who scored two tries through pure physical determination. Ultimately, our expansive play and ball retention led to a 25-10 win and a perfect day. Bailey Le Brese, Ben Crawford, Eden Humphreys and Beau Treveton were fantastic throughout the day and demonstrated the skills, leadership and commitment that will hold this team in good stead as we lead into more tournaments this 7s season.
U14 Boys
Thursday was an exhilarating day for Lindisfarne’s rugby teams, with our U14 and U13 squads showcasing their talent and determination in a series of matches at Evans Head. Both teams faced tough competition, but their hard work and team spirit shone through in every game.
Our U14 team was on fire, winning all their games against formidable opponents. The team demonstrated exceptional skill and coordination in their 7s matches, leaving their rivals in awe.
Lindisfarne vs. Evans River: The opening match set the tone for the day, with our U14s dominating from start to finish. Their strategic play and unwavering defence resulted in a convincing victory.
Lindisfarne vs. Kyogle: The second match saw Lindisfarne maintaining their momentum, outpacing Kyogle with swift passes and agile manoeuvres. The team’s cohesion was evident as they secured another win.
Lindisfarne vs. Alstonville High: In their final match, the U14s faced Alstonville High. Another dominant display ensured a clean sweep for the day.
Our U13 team also put up a commendable fight, competing against U14 teams and proving their mettle. Their performance was a testament to their grit and potential.
Lindisfarne vs. Woodlawn: The first match was tough, with Woodlawn taking the lead. Despite the loss, our U13s showed great sportsmanship and determination.
Lindisfarne vs. St Marys: The second match saw a strong effort from our team, but St Marys managed to edge out a win. The experience gained from these matches is invaluable for our young players.
Lindisfarne vs. Mt St Patricks: In a closely contested game, our U13s held their ground, resulting in an exciting 10 all draw with both Charlie and Matty Dunn scoring tries. Their tenacity and teamwork were on full display.
These performances have set a high standard for the rest of the season. As we look forward to upcoming matches, the dedication and enthusiasm of our players promise continued success.
Go Lindisfarne Lions!
U18 Girls
Our U18 girls squad thoroughly enjoyed being back out on the pitch and made some excellent progress throughout the day. This progress was highlighted by a superb victory in our final game of the day after recording three earlier losses against some quality opposition.
With our smaller numbers in the U18 squad it was fantastic to see the confidence and skill of some of our U16 girls who stepped up to fill the void.
With no substitutions available, the fitness and attitude was tested of our girls who stepped up admirably and did themselves and the school proud.
As always, our inspirational captain, Ruby Power, led from the front with a powerful performance, and our player of the tournament award went to Lois Diver, who had a fantastic day with a huge workrate.
All the team should be incredibly proud of their performance last week.
U16 Girls
Our U16 girls who have a little less experience than our U18’s certainly make up for a lack of experience with an abundance of energy and determination. This group of girls are keen to learn and the progress they are making is fantastic. In their first two games they had two close losses but in their final game of the day they put together a fabulous team performance to take the victory against Ballina.
It is great to witness the commitment the team has when making tackles and their understanding of what to do at the ruck is also improving.
Jasmine Harrison deservedly received the Player of the Tournament award. The energy she brought to every game was a highlight of the day.
As with the U18’s, the whole squad performed well and they are already excited to play their next tournament.

Monday After School Training
In 2024, our main training session outside of school time is on Monday after school from 1530-1645 and this remains the same in Term 3. Although we have had good numbers to our term 1 and 2 training sessions, rugby union is a team sport and we still need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program in term 3. Hopefully, the car-pooling details will help this and if we can be of assistance in any way, please let us know.
Also, please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume our Monday afternoon training will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know in ample time if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.
Training Attire
Students should also be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session, including school sport. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar and not the school sport polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.
Stack Team APP
The Stack Team app will be our Rugby Union program’s main form of communication for all our squads, with the exception of U12 boys.
As a reminder, both parents and Boy’s U13, U15, 1st XVs and 7’s and Girl’s 7s students who have parental permission for smartphones will need to download the app and join the Lindisfarne Rugby Program in the app.
To download the Stack team app, use the following links:
● iOS: https://www.teamapp.com/ios-ap...
● Android: https://www.teamapp.com/androi...
Once downloaded, please search for 'Lindisfarne Rugby Program' and request to join.

On Wednesday 31st July, some of our Lindisfarne families attended the School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) Information Evening where students were able to hear from Training Services, and Apprenticeship Connect Provider and an employer and a student about completing an SBAT in Years 11 and 12 as part of a students pattern of study. Generally students who want to pursue an SBAT will be on a non ATAR pathway and it will require significant commitment and organisation balance between study and work. Currently we have had employers approach us interested in taking on a student in Early Childhood, working in a childcare setting with babies - preschool aged children and also a Business Administration opportunity with a healthcare provider, so please contact Mrs Ward if this is something of interest for Year 11 2025. This website has some great information on establishing an SBAT.
If you are interested in a career in aviation it could be well worth attending the Murwillumbah Aero Club open day, detailed below:
Any Year 12 students interested in studying at Bond University next year are encouraged to complete their application for the Excellence Scholarship and Leadership Scholarship offerings and any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students are also encouraged to apply for their Indigenous Scholarships. Applications due on the 29th of August.
Provided below is a reminder about a few resources for Year 12 students and their families:
Early Entry Programs - This details all of the early entry programs in the country
Scholarships Guide- This details scholarships across all universities
Open Day Guide - This details all of the Open Days in the country
Year 12 students and families are also encouraged to attend the upcoming ParentEd on Monday the 19th of August at 6.30pm. This session will detail University Application dates and requirements, the ATAR and its calculation, early entry due dates and applications as well as the differences in application processes for each state and how to read University admission requirements. This is designed for both students and parents and provides a comprehensive overview of this often daunting process. Please register via this link. I wish our Year 12 students, and Year 11 accelerants the best of luck as they begin their HSC Trial Exams, along with the students submitting major works and completing aural exams for languages.
