Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
As we navigate through an eventful Term 3, I appreciate your continued support and adaptability, especially during this wet weather, which has challenged our drop-off and pick-up routines. Your patience and cooperation have helped keep our operations smooth and our students safe as we continue through the building phase.
Last Friday evening, Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School was proudly represented at the Australian Education Awards in Sydney, where our school was named a finalist in several prestigious categories: Best Student Wellbeing Program, Best Professional Learning Program, and Primary Teacher of the Year (Non-Government).
We are delighted to share that Mrs Tracy Foyster, was honoured with the title of Primary Teacher of the Year (Non-Government). This recognition places her among the very best in the country, and we couldn't be more proud of her dedication, passion, and commitment to excellence in education and care for the students of Lindisfarne.
Lindisfarne has been recognised in multiple categories at the Educator Awards over the years, but this achievement is especially meaningful as we celebrate the outstanding work of a teacher who continues to make a profound impact on our school community.
Science Week was a resounding success across both campuses, filled with engaging activities that celebrated scientific inquiry and discovery. Our students participated in a variety of experiments and presentations that not only enhanced their understanding of scientific concepts but also sparked a deeper interest in the wonders of science.
We are looking forward to the Commissioning of Reverend Lyndon Mulholland as our second Chaplain on Thursday, 5th September at 8:40am in Ngahriyah. This is a special occasion for our community, and we warmly invite all to attend and support Rev. Lyndon in his new role.
Next week, we are excited to celebrate Book Week, a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with literature in creative and interactive ways and celebrate our shared love of reading. Doug Evans of the Institute of Reading Development wrote about “What Being a Reader Means for Your Child”. In the article, he espouses the benefits of “being a reader,” including improved cognitive development, imagination and exploration, enhanced empathy and understanding, and higher levels of academic success. Of course, we are also aware of the significant improvements in vocabulary that come from reading, which then lead to enhanced expression, improved comprehension, cognitive flexibility, and the development of abstract reasoning and reflection, and analysis. With just 20 minutes of reading per day, a reader will top 1 million words read in a year! (The former English teacher in me is coming out!)
Over the course of the week and across the three sub-schools, we have a range of activities planned to enhance students’ appreciation for books and reading, fostering a lifelong love for literature.
This week, I also want to strongly emphasise the importance of punctuality in arriving at homeroom or House Tutor Group on time. Our pastoral and wellbeing program is not just a routine—it is foundational in setting the tone for the entire day. These initial moments are crucial for establishing a positive mindset, fostering a sense of belonging, and ensuring that every student is connected with their homeroom teachers or tutors. Being on time isn't just about following rules; it's about starting the day right, being fully prepared, making the most of the educational opportunities ahead, and, in some cases, receiving much needed pastoral support and guidance. Punctuality is a key factor in creating a structured and supportive environment where every student can thrive from the moment they walk through the door. I thank you for making morning punctuality a priority.
Lastly, a reminder that our FunFest is fast approaching. Scheduled for Saturday, 24 August, it promises to be a day filled with fun, food, and festivities. Please support our school by purchasing tickets early, participating in raffles, and enjoying a day designed to bring our community together.
It has been another great week! Thank you once again for your support and commitment to making Lindisfarne a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow. Have a terrific weekend.

Dear Staff, Parents and Guardians,
Happy International Youth Day 2024
Last Monday, August 12, was observed as the International Youth Day, dedicated to raising awareness about the opportunities and challenges facing young people around the world. The theme for this year, "Youth Engagement for Global Action", calls for young people to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of our society. It aims to highlight the importance of supporting young people to contribute in all aspects of the society’s life for the enrichment of national and multilateral processes.
Our young people are at the front and centre of our work, and we support them to use their privilege to make a difference, not only in our local communities, but around our country and the world.
International Youth Day is also an opportunity for us to check in with all the young people in our lives, and to encourage them in their growth and development. Please make time this weekend to check in on the physical, mental and spiritual health of our young people. According to the World Health Organization, half of all mental health conditions start by 14 years of age but most cases are undetected and untreated. We have a wonderful team of teachers, chaplains, counsellors and psychologists who are here for the wellbeing of our young people. Please reach out if you have any questions or need some support in helping your young one navigate the challenges they face.
Christian Meditation Club at Sunshine Avenue
We held our first Christian meditation club last Thursday at Sunshine Avenue for 15 minutes during lunchtime. Our digital age, despite its innumerable benefits, has been shown to adversely impact the attention span of our young people, as well as their mental health. Christian meditation has a long tradition dating back to the 3rd and 4th century Desert fathers and mothers in Syria, Egypt and the Middle East who sought a simpler way of focusing their attention on God who is in all things and all people. We meditate to calm the mind, to banish our fears and to set our hearts at rest.
The Benefits of Meditation Include:
Meditation deepens the children’s personal relationship with God
Meditation leads to increased self-knowledge and self-acceptance
Meditation increases the desire to build community with others
Meditation reduces stress and increases children’s sense of well-being and harmony.
If you would like to know more about Christian meditation or would like your child/ren to participate, please send me an email, constantine.osuchukwu@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au

First Nations
ASC Indigenous Student Symposium
Last Thursday, four First Nations students from our school had the honour of participating in the ASC Indigenous Student Symposium at Saint John's Anglican School in Brisbane. This significant event united Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, elders, educational leaders, and community members in a powerful exchange of ideas and experiences.
The symposium featured four remarkable First Nations speakers, who shared their personal journeys as Indigenous students. They provided invaluable insights into thriving within the school system while staying true to their cultural identities. Among the speakers was local Bundjalung man Joshua Apanui, a lawyer formally admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2023. Another inspiring speaker was David Williams, a proud Wakka Wakka man and Executive Director of Gilimbaa. David is also a world-renowned didgeridoo player, performing at events such as the Beijing and Paris Olympics.
In addition to these thought-provoking speakers, the symposium hosted a Careers Expo, offering students and their families a glimpse into various career pathways and further education opportunities.
Our Lindisfarne students represented the school with great pride, engaging in important discussions about justice, diversity, and inclusivity. Their participation in the symposium underscores the growing leadership and influence of Indigenous youth within the Anglican school community.

The Round Square Heroes of Discovery - Junior School
This week at the Junior School, we revisited one of our first Heroes of Discovery, Diversity Dani.
Characterised by her profound respect for others’ culture, heritage, rights, perspectives and beliefs, Dani highlights the importance of accepting others regardless of their differences. Her story inspires others to embrace a diverse world and to create a community where everyone feels valued and included.
Throughout junior school, teachers have been facilitating discussions on how Dani’s character traits can be embodied to help foster a more inclusive and compassionate community. These conversations perfectly complemented the ‘Bullying No Way: National Week of Action’ activities taking place in classrooms during the week.
We look forward to seeing Diversity Dani’s traits shine among students throughout the Junior School over the coming weeks as we work together to build a community of little heroes.

Preschool Special Fun
We in Preschool love it when our parents or family members are able to spare a little bit of time to come in to share a special interest or family culture with us. For example, on Tuesday the 14th of August we in Preschool Koalas were lucky to be joined by Jackson's mum Maggie, who led us in a session preparing and cooking traditional Chinese dumplings.
First, we thoroughly washed our hands then took turns mixing chopped steamed cabbage pieces into the big bowl of filling that she had previously prepared for us. Next, we carefully peeled a small round piece of dumpling dough from the pile and carefully placed it on a piece of baking paper ready to add a spoonful of filling. Maggie showed us how to measure out just the right amount, and how to gently hold and then pinch the dough together with our fingers so as to seal the filling inside. She also showed us how to use a dumpling maker, a little bit like a small plastic press, which, with the right amount of filling added, pinched the edges of the dough tightly together when closed.
As hot oil was involved Maggie took them away and cooked them for us, which left us with only one thing to do... try them once they were done! The children really, really liked them, we were lucky that Maggie prepared a few extra! Thank you Maggie and Jackson, the children had a very rich and rewarding experience with you this morning!

National Week of Action - Bullying No Way
National week of action - Bullying No Way
“Bullying is defined as an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and or social behaviour that intends to cause physical social and or psychological harm.”
Dr Michael Carr-Gregg
Types of Bullying
Bullying is usually described by the types of behaviours involved, so we talk about verbal, social and physical bullying. Bullying is sometimes also labelled by where it occurs or by what type of harm is done. These words can be used alone or in combination. It can be confusing! The most common ways that bullying is described are outlined below.
Type of behaviour – verbal, social and physical There are three types of bullying behaviour: Verbal bullying which includes name calling or insulting someone about physical characteristics such as their weight or height, or other attributes including race, sexuality, culture, or religion Physical bullying which includes hitting or otherwise hurting someone, shoving or intimidating another person, or damaging or stealing their belongings Social bullying which includes consistently excluding another person or sharing information or images that will have a harmful effect on the other person. If any of these behaviours occur only once, or are part of a conflict between equals (no matter how inappropriate) they are not bullying. Verbal, physical and social bullying can occur in person or online, directly or indirectly, overtly or covertly.
Setting – in person and online Bullying can happen in person or online settings. Online bullying is sometimes called cyberbullying. Verbal, physical and social bullying can happen in person. Verbal and social bullying can happen online, as can threats of physical bullying. Specific features of online settings create additional concern for students, parents and carers, and teachers. For example, bullying someone online can potentially have an enormous audience. Research shows that children who are bullied online are often also bullied in person. This means that effectively dealing with online bullying means looking at other situations as well.
Means – direct and indirect Direct bullying occurs between the people involved, whereas indirect actions involve others, for example passing on insults or spreading rumours. Indirect bullying mostly inflicts harm by damaging another's social reputation, peer relationships and self-esteem.
Visibility – overt and covert Bullying can be easy to see, called overt, or hidden from those not directly involved, called covert. Overt bullying involves physical actions such as punching or kicking or observable verbal actions such as name-calling and insulting. Overt, direct, physical bullying is a common depiction of bullying. (This is sometimes called 'traditional bullying'). But overt physical bullying may not be the most common type of bullying. Covert bullying can be almost impossible for people outside the interpersonal interaction to identify. Covert bullying can include repeatedly using hand gestures and weird or threatening looks, whispering, excluding or turning your back on a person, restricting where a person can sit and who they can talk with. Covert social or verbal bullying can be subtle and even sometimes denied by a person who claims they were joking or 'just having fun'. Some bullying is covert and indirect, usually intentionally hidden, and very hard for others to see. This type of bullying can include spreading rumours, threatening, blackmailing, stealing friends, breaking secrets, gossiping, criticising clothes and personalities. Indirect covert bullying mostly inflicts harm by damaging another's social reputation, peer relationships and self-esteem, that is, through psychological harm rather than physical harm.
Harm – physical and psychological Bullying has the potential to cause harm (although not all unwanted actions necessarily cause harm). The physical harm caused by some types of bullying is well recognised. More recently, research has confirmed that short and long term psychological harm can result from bullying. This includes the harm to a person's social standing or reducing a person's willingness to socialise through bullying (particularly covert social bullying). In fact, just the fear of bullying happening can create distress and harm. The ongoing nature of bullying can lead to the person being bullied feeling powerless and unable to stop it from happening. The effects of bullying, particularly on the mental health and wellbeing of those involved, including bystanders, can continue even after the situation is resolved. Sometimes the term 'psychological bullying' is used to describe making threats and creating ongoing fear, but it is more accurate to describe the type of behaviour as 'verbal or social bullying' and the impact on the person being bullied as 'psychological harm'.
Context – home, work and school Bullying can happen anywhere. It can happen at home, at work or at school. It can happen to anyone. Bullying can occur between students, staff and parents/carers. Bullying. No Way! focuses on bullying between students.

Maggie Dent - Help Me Help My Teen
Maggie will be holding a seminar in the Chapel on Saturday.
This seminar, based on Maggie’s latest book, is a reassuring, practical guide for parents to help teenagers navigate adolescence and grow into confident, capable adults. Adolescence has always been a time of huge transformation, but today’s teens deal with challenges that parents may never have imagined. An increasingly digital world filled with social media, gaming and harmful content, along with changing cultural norms, has intensified the pressure to excel and ‘fit in’ – leading to heightened levels of stress, anxiety and depression. Drawing on up-to-date research, a survey of modern teens and her own experiences as a teacher counsellor, mother and teen, Maggie provides clear and compassionate ‘what to do’ advice for some of the most difficult, sensitive topics – such as technology use, sex, drugs and alcohol, dropped school grades, school refusal, mental health and identity – and shows us how we can provide a safe and supportive environment for all our teens.

Use of Social Media
I want to bring to your attention a current trend among students known as "Photo Dumps," where they upload large numbers of photos onto social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. While this can be a fun way for them to express themselves, it also raises concerns about privacy and online safety. Students have been reminded that they should not post photos of others without permission and should be aware of the dangers of sharing images publicly, especially those in school or sports uniforms. It is crucial that their accounts are set to private to protect their personal information.
For more information on how to have this important conversation with your children, please visit the Australian Government's eSafety Commissioner website: here
Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe online.
Science Week
Once again our Science Faculty spearheaded the Annual Science Week celebration - the 2024 school theme was Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability. The theme aimed to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.
Our students had an amazing variety of topics to investigate and were able to dive into issues of particular interest to them with a number of activities and events scheduled throughout the week.
Thank you to the Director of Science, Mrs Jo Mendoza and the faculty team for all the work you put into making this a successful week.
Bullying No Way: National Week of Action
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence has a new name, Bullying No Way: National Week of Action. Bullying No Way Week, 12 to 16 August 2024, is Australia's key bullying prevention initiative and connects schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.
Once again Lindisfarne marked this important event with a splash of purple and activities designed to raise awareness on this important issue. Thank you to the staff and students for getting involved.
Write a Book in a Day Competition
The first part of this annual competition was held in the Library, this week. We had 60 young authors creating their books over the course of the day from 8:30am- 8:00pm. It was a wonderful opportunity that encouraged teamwork and resilience. Money raised will go to the national charity, The Kids’ Cancer Project. Thank you to our Learning Enrichment Directors, Jacqui O’Sullivan and Jodie Duggan and the staff who supported them throughout the day to ensure our students had an enjoyable and educational experience.
Year 6 Canberra Trip
On Monday, our Year 6 cohort will head to our nation’s capital to experience and deepen their understanding of Australia’s democratic values and heritage.

From the Head of Senior School
As the HSC Trials come to a close, there is undoubtedly a collective sigh of relief amongst our Year 12 students. This significant milestone is now behind them, and with it, the most intense period of preparation for their final examinations. However, while the Trials may be over, this moment marks the beginning of a crucial phase in their journey toward the conclusion of their final year of schooling.
With just a few precious weeks left in the Senior School, the importance of maintaining focus and dedication cannot be overstated. The 2024 cohort has worked diligently to reach this point, and now, with both hands on the proverbial wheel, it is my hope and expectation that we will witness a strong and determined finish from each student.
In the coming weeks, I encourage all our Year 12 students to remain engaged in their studies, take advantage of the extra study sessions, diligently complete practice papers, and actively seek feedback from their teachers. These efforts, combined with an ongoing commitment to our school values of Compassion, Wisdom, and Respect, will prepare them for their final exams and set a strong example for those who follow in their footsteps.
The 2024 leavers have the unique opportunity to leave behind a lasting legacy, one that reflects the best of what Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School stands for. However, this requires buy-in from all members of the cohort. As they navigate these final weeks, I urge our Year 12 students to support each other, remain focused, and continue to embody the values that have guided them throughout their time with us.
The finish line is in sight, and I am confident that the Class of 2024 will cross it with pride, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered.

Bullying No Way! Week
Week 4 is the National Week of Action Against Bullying. To help integrate this as part of our shared language in the Senior School, Year 11 volunteers ran a series of initiatives designed to remind our community that bullying is never OK, and that everyone has a place in our school. Along with a pledge wall in the library, there was a poster-making competition, a Buddy Bench in the Middle School area and an engaging message delivered in both SS and MS assemblies. Along with house tutors and classroom teachers, students are encouraged to reach out to their Heads of House, our amazing wellbeing team, the Dean of Students, and our Chaplains or use the anonymous reporting tool Stymie to raise any concerns around Bullying. As a school, we are committed to ensuring that all of our students are safe and supported.

How good was it watching Jeff Dunne roll through the complexities of his Break routine in the Paris Games. I was so impressed with our young star! Not that I am a judge - nor do I have any knowledge around judging such events, but I thought he was fabulous.
NCIS Athletics was fortunately abandoned for this week, with the pin being pulled last Friday morning. The new date is 27 August, in which we are all once again nervously watching the weather! All up-to-date NCIS Athletics information is - HERE
A fabulous win by our Bill Turner boys on August 6 against Oxley State High School puts them into the nationwide final 16, joining our U15 girls. Confidence is now high within the boys' playing group, who have demonstrated serious resilience by clawing back from behind on the scoreboard numerous times. They boast potent weapons in attack, a constructive midfield, and a stoic defensive line. Our U15 girl's squad has been very impressive thus far, having completely dominated their rivals. However, the competition will be tougher as they move on to the Quarter Finals in Coffs Harbour on August 20 and 21. All our players are very excited about being live-streamed in a News Limited agreement. Please see the flyer - HERE.
The Border Schools Gala Day 3—the FINAL one for the 2024 Calendar year—is underway this coming week. Four concurrent events—tennis, touch football, chess, and volleyball — are underway next Wednesday.
Wishing our Netball Girls all the best in Bendigo, as they head off to play in the High Performance division of the National All Schools - a super exciting addition to our 2024 calendar. The girls fly out on Sunday for their tour.
Our Rugby 7’s squads are heading up to the Sunshine Coast next Friday, in the next stage of their 7’s campaign.
Good luck to Andie Buchan (Year 5), who will run in the Nationals Cross Country next week after her second-place finish at NSWPSSA Cross Country.
Jack Kane, talented sportsman extraordinaire - is off to represent NSWCIS at NSWPSSA Football in Tamworth in Week 6. Wishing him all the best.
Finally, we are cordially inviting ANY Lindisfarne student, from Years 3 to 12 - to compete at our Annual Lindisfarne Tennis Championships, on Monday 23, September. Please see the flyer below, click this link to register.
Bill Turner Cup - Oxley High School (Tamworth)
The boys waded into uncharted territory, as far north coast champions into their round of 32 Bill Turner Cup playoff against Oxley High School (Tamworth). With no scoring report on the opposition and a few players out injured, the mood was tense to begin. However, once the game started, we asserted our dominance, controlling the game and having the lion's share of the chances. Our top-scoring striker Fletcher Bisgrove converted to centre-back and was dominant in his display. Oscar Meulet and James Letters carved up the midfield and timely goals from Lucas Martins Hickel and Curtis Moore were enough to see us through to the round of 16. We join the girls at the next level and both teams are way further than they have ever gone before, and with significant momentum! I'm always proud to see the boys put their talent on display, and I'm thrilled for them and the opportunity that awaits!

Touch Football
Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School's touch football teams have had a huge fortnight showcasing their talents at two major carnivals.
South QLD All Schools
On August 7th and 8th, ten of our teams participated in the South Queensland All Schools Carnival at Owen Park, Southport. Competing against strong teams from across the Gold Coast, our players demonstrated remarkable skill and sportsmanship.
Our Junior School teams played exceptionally well. The girls won the tournament in an extra-time “drop-off” situation that went down to 3 on 3 Touch Football. The Boys also demonstrated their skill and had an excellent carnival, falling just short in the final.
Our Middle and Senior School teams played well and all experienced some success throughout the carnival. This was a great hit-out for our teams in preparation for the Queensland All Schools to be held in the October Holidays.
This carnival provided the senior teams with valuable game experience ahead of the final two events of the year - The Kings Cup and the QLD All Schools carnival.

NSW All Schools State Finals
Representing us at the NSW All Schools State Finals in Penrith was a dedicated team of Year 9 & 10 girls. There are no easy games at this level as all teams have won their respective regional qualifiers to be invited to this final. The girls played with intensity and grit, finishing the day with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses in an incredibly tight pool phase, just missing out on the semi-finals. Well done girls!
Spotlight on Hunter Gaffney

Lindisfarne Senior Volleyball Teams Shine at Queensland Senior Schools Cup
This past weekend marked an exciting milestone for Lindisfarne as three of our Senior Volleyball teams competed for the very first time at the Queensland Senior Schools Cup Volleyball Tournament on the Gold Coast. The tournament was a thrilling experience, showcasing the dedication, energy, and commitment of all our players.
Throughout the weekend, the teams displayed remarkable improvement, with each match highlighting their growth and determination. The players’ hard work and enthusiasm were evident on the court, and their sportsmanship was a credit to our school.
As our volleyball community continues to grow, we encourage anyone interested to become a part of this exciting journey. If you would like to be involved, please email Mrs. McLeish (bec.mcleish@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au) for further details. Year 7, 8 and 9 students who have an interest in learning this fast-moving sport, please reach out to Mrs McLeish.
Looking ahead, our focus now shifts to the Border Schools Gala Day next week and the NCIS competition in October. Additionally, we are on the lookout for players who are keen to compete in the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup in December. We are eager to build on the momentum and success of this weekend and look forward to what’s ahead.
Go Lindisfarne Volleyball!
Hockey News
Casuarina hockey player Laurie Bartell (Year 8) has made the Queensland Hockey U14 team and is headed to Perth for Nationals at the end of September 2024. He recently played with the Gold Coast team at the state championships in Toowoomba last holidays, where they finished 5th without losing a game. Laurie also served as captain. Go Laurie!
NFLFlag Primary
On Monday our school's 5/6 NFL Flag Football team participated in the Northern NSW tournament. This was a significant event for the 10 selected students who had been training hard in the lead-up to the competition. For many of them, this was a completely new sport, which along with the trying weather conditions, added an extra layer of challenge.
The tournament saw an initial round-robin phase, where each team faced off against one another, before a Grand Final event. Our students showed remarkable determination and skill throughout the tournament and in the Grand Final game played exceptionally well, to secure the victory and earn the title of Northern NSW NFL Flag State Champions.
The journey doesn't stop here. Our team will now return to the training track, eager to hone their skills even further, with their eyes set on the national finals, which will take place on the Gold Coast in early November. Stay tuned for more updates.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
Congratulations to the U18 boys, U14 boys and U16 girls who won their divisions in the NSW Rugby Far North Coast 7s regional final on Thursday 1st August. Congratulations should also go to Cimarron Crawford who was named Player of The Tournament and was outstanding on the day. By winning their divisions, these 3 teams qualified for the State final on the 18th September. However, NSW Rugby has decided not to run the U18 division due to its proximity to HSC trials. This means that our U14 boys and U16 girls will be representing our school at the State Finals in Sydney. We are yet to be given a location where this will be held but we have started making plans with travel agents for these two squads to fly down together on the 17th September mid- to late-morning and return on the 18th September in the evening. There will be some costs involved for this trip and we will update students and parents selected in these squads ASAP with a confirmed budget.
On another note, the NCIS 7s in Armidale on the 27th of August have unfortunately been cancelled for our U12, U14 and U16 boys and U16 girls. We will endeavour to find some replacement matches against local schools this week or the following.

Monday After School Training
In 2024, our main training session outside of school time is on Monday after school from 1530-1645 and this remains the same in Term 3. Although we have had good numbers to our term 1 and 2 training sessions, rugby union is a team sport and we still need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program in term 3. Hopefully, the car-pooling details will help this and if we can be of assistance in any way, please let us know.
Also, please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume our Monday afternoon training will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know in ample time if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.
Training Attire
Students should also be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session, including school sport. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar and not the school sport polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.
Stack Team APP
The Stack Team app will be our Rugby Union program’s main form of communication for all our squads, with exception of U12 boys.
As a reminder, both parents and Boy’s U13, U15, 1st XVs and 7’s and Girl’s 7s students who have parental permission for smartphones will need to download the app and join the Lindisfarne Rugby Program in the app.
To download the Stack team app, use the following links:
● iOS: https://www.teamapp.com/ios-ap...
● Android: https://www.teamapp.com/androi...
Once downloaded, please search for 'Lindisfarne Rugby Program' and request to join.

Lindisfarne Community Library
Year 10 students have been hard at work transforming an ordinary bookshelf into a vibrant collective library for our school community. With brushes in hand and creativity in full swing, they have designed and are painting a community bookshelf that will soon take pride of place in B Block.
This project not only allowed our students to showcase their artistic talents but also reinforced the values of collaboration and community spirit. Each student contributed their unique ideas and are taking turns at painting on this community library project. We are hoping for this to be ready for a big unveiling during book week and that students will value the sharing of books and be able to bring in a novel to contribute to the community library.

Gold Coast Debating Update
Gold Coast Debating Update
Things are heating up for our teams in the Gold Coast Debating Competition as we head into Quarter Finals week. Congratulations to all teams who have made the cut to represent Lindisfarne in the highly competitive finals series.
The Open A LAG1 Team presented an airtight argument to cement a win against Benowa High School. The team presented an affirmative response to the topic::
News media should be free from commercial influence
Olivia opened the debate, signposting with style to lay a strong foundation for the team case. Mia continued the argument with grace, speaking “like a politician” as described by our adjudicator. Ella closed the debate with a convincing case comparison rebuttal, driving home the affirmative prerogative with flair. While Lexi was our chairperson for the debate, her support in the high stakes prep room was incredibly valuable. Special mention to Xan who was impacted by extreme weather conditions and didn’t make it, but who I’m sure will be a part of the upcoming semi-final efforts. Well done Open A debaters!
The Junior B LAG 2 Team also brought home an outstanding victory in their quarter final, arguing the negative side of the topic:
School students should have to play a team sport
These debaters should be incredibly proud of their efforts, as this stage of the competition is only open to the top teams. The skills that the team have worked on all year have come a long way, and we wish the Junior B LAG2 team all the best in the upcoming semi-finals.

Math Minute
This year students from Lindisfarne have engaged in a number of Math competitions from Olympiads to Bebras to KSF. This term we had 63 students from Years 8 to 11 sit the AMC.
First run in 1978, the Australian Mathematics Competition is Australia’s longest-running, largest and most well-known maths competition for school students. It contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend your students’ problem-solving skills.
Some Year 8 Students are extending their problem-solving and computational thinking by entering the CSS Challenge that started at the end of July. We look forward to hearing how that goes over the next few weeks.
A reminder that ICAS is coming up on the 26th of August. This is for students in the top maths classes and also for any student who requested entry.
Next term we hope to engage in The World Mathematics Championships and Bebras competitions.
If you would like to get involved in any Maths competitions please ask your Maths teacher for more information.

HICES Music Festival
This week, 11 talented Lindisfarne students participated in the prestigious HICES Music Festival, joining over 350 students from 32 schools across New South Wales. Selection for this event was highly competitive, with students gaining entry through video auditions submitted earlier in the year.
Our students took part in a series of intensive rehearsals and workshops after flying to Sydney last Sunday. Their hard work culminated in outstanding performances at the renowned Sydney jazz venue, Foundry 616, and the iconic Sydney Town Hall.
Lindisfarne was proudly represented in the Symphonic Winds, String Ensemble, Vocal Ensemble, and Jazz Academy, showcasing their skills in a range of challenging repertoires.
Congratulations to all our students and staff who contributed to the success of the 2024 HICES Music Festival.

Year 12 Student Shines as Guest Artist at The Pink Flamingo Circus Fun House
We are delighted to share that one of our exceptional Year 12 Dance students Amelie Mitchell was recently invited to be a guest artist at the renowned Pink Flamingo Circus Fun House in Brisbane! This incredible opportunity was a testament to her outstanding ability and dedication to her craft, and we couldn’t have been prouder. Amelie had to balance studying and completing her HSC trial examinations while rehearsing for this show, a challenge that not all students could manage.
The Pink Flamingo Circus Fun House, known for its vibrant performances that blend contemporary circus acts with theatre, dance, and cabaret, provided the perfect stage for Amelie’s unique artistic talents. Their performance contributed to the exciting and eclectic atmosphere that the Pink Flamingo is famous for. Amelie performed a silk routine along with a rotating cage performance.
It is very rare for a young artist in high school to get the chance to perform on such a prestigious stage, and Amelie truly shone. I was lucky enough to be in the audience and see first hand and I recommend you get along on the 30th and 31st of August if you would like to see her perform.

Science Week Recap
This week was Science Week and we ran a range of events that were thoroughly enjoyed by our school community. From the Science Fair to the Photography Competition and the various shows at Assembly - there was something for everyone to see.
We kicked off with the Senior School Assembly on Tuesday morning where Ms Mendoza and students from the Year 10 STEM class showcased their love of science with a range of demonstrations. In the evening, we launched the school’s inaugural Science Fair which showcased student work from Years 8-12, with the Year 10 Student Research Project Competition a highlight. The night finished with a keynote by Year 11 student, Olivia Danesi, as she discussed her Science Extension major work with the audience as well as our special guests, Mrs Elizabeth Wilson - the Director of Strategic Site Partnerships at IQVIA, Miss Kelsi Taylor - an Invasive Species Officer at Watergum Community Inc. and Mr Ewan Willis - the Head of Software Engineering at Gilmour Space Technologies, who shared their experiences working in STEM fields to give advice to aspiring students. We hope this will be an ongoing annual event for us to continue showing the hard work being done by our science students across the school.
Our Junior School started off the week with a visit from the Year 8 Science Ad Astra classes who had planned and delivered a lesson to introduce the students to this year’s Science Week theme, ‘Species Survival’. We continued to receive positive reviews of this activity from teachers and students alike. On Wednesday, the Year 10 STEM class supported Ms Mendoza in delivering a science show to continue the festivities and taught the students a bit more about chemistry and how it is impacting our environment on a larger scale. Ms Walmsley also led an activity with our preschool students including demonstrations with dry ice and elephant’s toothpaste.
Year 8 have been working toward ANSTO’s Think Science Competition to create a video to explain scientific concepts around renewable energy sources and Years 7-9 all got a chance to test their problem solving skills by participating in the Science Week Escape Room in their classes this week. A big thank you to our providers, Stile, who prepared this and also visited the school on Friday to treat our teachers to a coffee on their road trip around the state. Thank you also to ANU for their kind donation of STEM boxes for some of our Year 7 Science classes. Mrs McCann’s students had lots of fun engaging in the activities in the box. Our favourite activity was making the lava lamps!
Thank you to everyone who participated or volunteered at Science Week, especially the Year 10 STEM class who led the organisation and planning of these events and the dedicated Science Faculty who put in the extra effort to make every student’s experience of science a memorable one.
