Foreword

Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,

What a fulfilling week it has been at Lindisfarne, filled with celebration, creativity, and connection.

Last Saturday, we held our Strategic Planning Day, bringing together members of the Executive, School Council, Leadership team and wider community. It was a valuable opportunity to align our collective vision and plan strategically for the future of Lindisfarne. I’m deeply grateful for the collaborative spirit and dedication of all involved. This work lays the foundation for an exciting road ahead for our school, and it is anticipated that we will be able to launch our Lindisfarne 2032 strategy ahead of the end of the School year.

A standout highlight of the week has been the Junior School production of Finding Nemo JR. I was absolutely speechless at the colour, energy, and pure talent displayed by our young performers. The production was a visual and emotional delight, and a beautiful reminder of the power of the arts in nurturing confidence and joy in our students. My heartfelt thanks to Musical Director Jesse Edwards, Director Kim Shepherd, Acting Director of Performing Arts Amy Camer, and especially our Year 3 and Year 4 teaching teams. The time, effort, and patience you have invested in guiding our students towards such an exceptional performance is truly commendable.

We were once again proud to serve as host school for the Gold Coast Debating Competition this week. It is always inspiring to witness the articulate voices, confident arguments, and considerable ability of outstanding young debaters from across the region.

Today, we celebrated the highly anticipated P&F Golf Day — a much enjoyed Lindisfarne tradition that brings our parent community together in friendly competition and good humour. Many thanks to our P&F Association and our dedicated community engagement team for their ongoing commitment to building a connected and vibrant school community.

This Saturday, The Reverend Constantine has organised a “Walk for Hope Vale”, following our visit to the community in the April school holidays. As part of the Anglican Church Hope 2025 vision, this fundraising event aims to support a student from Hope Vale in boarding at a Queensland Anglican school for their secondary education. The Reverend Dway will walk from St Cuthbert’s in Tweed Heads to St James’ Kingscliff, while The Reverend Constantine continues from Kingscliff to St Mark’s Pottsville. I encourage you to support this incredible initiative, which is closely aligned with our values of service, hope, and reconciliation.

This weekend, we also bid farewell and wish the very best of luck to our Cricket team, who depart for the United Kingdom on Sunday. They will represent Lindisfarne as they tour and compete against schools across the UK, enjoying a tremendous opportunity to learn, grow, and build connections through sport.

Looking ahead to next week, I’m preparing for some very important visitors on Monday morning — our 2025 Lindisfarne Kindergarten students who will be visiting the Mahers Lane campus for a tour around my office and the rest of the Mahers Lane campus! It’s always a joy to see the excitement and wonder in our youngest students as they explore more of our school.

Monday afternoon, I look forward to joining the Junior School parents at our Twilight Concert at the Sunshine Avenue Campus — another special event that showcases the incredible musical talent of our Junior School students through song, instrumental performance, and ensemble work.

A reminder that next week, the Matt Fydler Sports Academy Induction Evening will take place at Ngahriyah on our Mahers Lane Campus. We look forward to officially inducting our student-athletes who have met the criteria for inclusion in this significant program at the School.

We will also enjoy our Athletics Carnivals on Thursday and Friday next week, and culminate what has been a very rewarding term of learning and achievement.

Finally, I am writing today from Armidale, where I am attending the PLC Pathways International Student Symposium, representing Lindisfarne in this important cross-school forum for global collaboration and exchange.

Wishing you all a safe and restorative weekend in this beautiful winter sunshine.

Warm regards,

Stuart Marquardt

Dear Members of the Lindisfarne Anglican School community,

"You Are Gods, Children of the Most High": A Message of Identity, Wonder, and Delight

There’s a delightful moment in the story of Peter Pan when Peter’s friends ask him, “Peter, how come you can fly?” With his trademark sparkle, he replies, “Think lovely thoughts and you’ll fly.”

This week, I want to offer you a “lovely thought” from Psalm 82– one that’s even more powerful than Peter Pan’s: “You are gods, children of the most high” (Psalm 82:6). Imagine what our school – and indeed the world – might look like if each of us truly believed this, even just a little more every day.

It’s a bold thought. It’s really beautiful. It’s a truth that transcends what we wear, the shape of our eyes, the brand of shoes on our feet or the clothes on our body. It’s not defined by the kind of phone we carry, the grades we get, how many friends we have or how many likes we get on social media. This truth is grounded in something far deeper: the reality that we are made in the image and likeness of God (see Genesis 1:27).

Etty Hillesum, a Jewish writer during World War II, once said: “There is a well deep down in each and every one of us – and in that well dwells God. Sometimes we are there with God, but more often the well is covered with stones, sand and dirt, and God is hidden. Then God must be dug out again.”

What a powerful image. All of us have moments when our inner light feels hidden or buried. But the good news is that God never leaves us – sometimes we just need to rediscover Him. To dig, to clear away the clutter, and to remember who we really are.

So here’s a simple practice: each morning, pause and say to yourself, “I am a child of God, and something beautiful is happening in my life right now.” This practice can transform the way we see ourselves and others. It gives us wings to rise above fear, judgment, or doubt – and become the amazing people God created us to be.

The mystic Elizabeth of the Trinity once wrote: “I have found heaven on earth since heaven is God and God is in my soul.” Isn’t that extraordinary? Heaven isn’t far away; it’s as close as your next breath. God lives in you and me.

And this presence of God isn’t just something private or personal. It’s revealed in your friendships, in acts of kindness, in the laughter of classmates and the quiet support and guidance of teachers, as well as the love of parents and family members. It’s in the rising sun, the stillness of a tree, the playfulness of animals – and in the beauty of learning and growing together as a school community.

Whoever you are, please know this: God loves you deeply and personally. He is with you, in you, and walks alongside you every single day. Life is a journey, and we are never alone on that road.

So when someone asks you how you keep flying through life with joy and hope, maybe you’ll echo Peter Pan and say, “I think lovely thoughts.” And what lovelier thought is there than this: “We are gods, children of the most high.”

Have a beautiful and restful weekend. Be happy. Be courageous. God has created you to leave your mark in this world. So go for it.

The Reverend Constantine Osuchukwu
Chaplain

Hope Walk -Walking for Hope Vale

Tomorrow, Saturday, 21 June, about 40 members of our Lindisfarne School Community and Tweed Network Anglican parishes will set out on Hope Walk – Walking for Hope Vale, a journey from Tweed Heads to Pottsville. This walk was inspired by a recent service-learning trip to Hope Vale with Lindisfarne students, and by Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these... You did for me.”

This is more than just a walk—it’s a journey of Ubuntu, solidarity, compassion, and hope.

Our goal is to raise $35,000 to sponsor a child from the remote Aboriginal community of Hope Vale in Far North Queensland, helping them access the life-changing opportunity of boarding school. For many children in Hope Vale, boarding school opens the door to education, opportunity, personal growth, and a brighter future.

If you have any queries, please call me on 0435 750 155.

Thank you so much,
Reverend Constantine

Semester 1 Reports  - Released Wednesday

Semester 1 reports will be released on Wednesday, 2 July via SEQTA Engage. These reports reflect your child’s progress across academic learning and key learner attributes.

We encourage families to sit down together to read through the report - celebrating strengths, and discussing areas for future focus and goal setting. If you have any questions or would like to follow up, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the relevant teacher or Director.

Athletics Carnivals - Week 9 Reminder

We are looking forward to our two upcoming Athletics Carnivals at Walter Peate Oval, Kingscliff:

Secondary School Carnival (Years 7–12) - Thursday, 26 June
Primary School Carnival (Years 2–6) - Friday, 27 June

These are compulsory school days. All students must arrive at school on time for roll call before we depart together for the oval.

Students are expected to wear their House shirts and are warmly encouraged to show their House spirit by dressing up in House colours. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together in celebration of friendly competition, participation, and team pride.

There are opportunities for all students to be involved, whether they’re competing in serious seeded events or just joining in to support their House and enjoy the day. Students have been emailed details about registration for competitive events. Please ensure entries are submitted by the due date, as late registrations cannot be accepted.

Thank you for supporting this special event in our school calendar. We’re looking forward to two fantastic days of energy, effort, and community spirit.

Final Week of Term 2

As we approach the end of Term 2, we ask for your support in ensuring that all students continue to wear their full winter uniform each day, particularly for assembly.

Wearing the correct uniform is more than a school expectation,it reflects pride, belonging, and a shared commitment to our school standards. We appreciate your help in reinforcing these values at home.

A reminder as well for students to check the lost property area before the break. Many uniform items and personal belongings are still waiting to be claimed.

Supporting Positive Parenting

Parenting is a mix of joyful wins, messy moments, and constant decision-making. And while there’s no one-size-fits-all guide, small, intentional choices can make a big difference in how our children grow, cope and connect.

This infographic offers practical, evidence-based parenting strategies, things like helping kids notice positive emotions, encouraging them to bounce back after challenges, and modelling our own self-care and calm in tricky moments.

What stands out is the reminder that it’s not about getting it all right, all the time. Often, it’s about showing up with consistency and care, and letting our kids learn from how we navigate everyday life ourselves.

You will find the infographic below. It’s a great conversation starter or gentle prompt for reflection. I hope it adds value to your parenting toolkit.

Be Kind - DiscoverEd

On Tuesday, our DiscoverEd group, Be Kind, visited Infinite Care for the final time this semester. This term, the students chose the theme Hearts That Help and thoughtfully planned a visit filled with connection, kindness and creativity.

During our visit, we gifted the residents the heartfelt crafts we had made alongside the Kindergarten students just two weeks earlier. These included colourful bookmarks, drawings and kindness quotes designed to brighten someone’s day.

After sharing the gifts, the students spent time playing games with the residents and chatting with them. The room was full of laughter, conversation and joy as connections formed.

It was a beautiful way to end the semester, and both the students and residents walked away with full hearts and big smiles. We are so proud of our Be Kind students for the empathy, care and positivity they bring to our community.

40 Amazing Hours of Creativity

Visual Arts and PDM Excursion to Sydney

Over two jam-packed days, our Visual Arts and Photography & Digital Media (PDM) students embarked on an unforgettable excursion to Sydney, immersing themselves in the vibrant world of art and creativity. From hands-on workshops to major exhibitions, the experience was nothing short of transformative.

The trip began with a series of dynamic workshops at the National Art School, one of Australia’s most prestigious tertiary art institutions. Students took part in intensive drawing, painting, and photography sessions led by professional artists and educators, gaining invaluable insights into their crafts. These workshops not only built technical skills but also encouraged creative risk-taking and exploration.

By night, students experienced the magic of Vivid Sydney, the city's annual festival of light, music and ideas. Walking through Circular Quay and around the Opera House, students were dazzled by large-scale light projections, interactive installations, and digital art displays. The energy and innovation of Vivid left a lasting impression, particularly on those drawn to new media.

Our visit also included a tour of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, where students explored major exhibitions showcasing the work of both Australian and international artists. These exhibitions sparked rich conversations about contemporary art practices, cultural identity, and artistic expression.

Throughout the city, students participated in creative challenges—from impromptu urban sketching to location-based photography and plein air painting. These tasks not only sharpened their observational skills but also encouraged them to see the city as a living canvas.

Many students reflected on how the excursion reinvigorated their own artistic practice. They spoke of feeling inspired by the city’s energy, the art they encountered, and the new ideas they were exposed to. Most notably, there was a shared sense of excitement about digital and experimental media, a testament to the evolving landscape of visual art.

The excursion also strengthened our growing relationship with the National Art School—a valuable connection that will continue to offer students opportunities for advanced learning and exposure to the professional art world.

In all, it was 40 incredible hours of artistic exploration and inspiration. The creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm displayed by our students made this experience truly unforgettable.

CIS Cross Country

On Thursday, June 12, there were several students who represented the school with pride and determination at the CIS Primary and Secondary Cross Country Championships, held at the scenic Sydney Equestrian Centre. The cool and sunny conditions were favourable for running as all LAGS athletes ran with outstanding spirit and resilience across the beautiful course. Amongst the students, we had some very remarkable results:

  • Year 3: Myla Norton in the 8/9 Girls 2km race, placing 4th overall – an impressive effort amongst tough competition!

  • Year 4: Elle Down in the Primary 10 girls 2km race, who took out 1st place overall by a whopping 36 seconds, which is a phenomenal effort!

  • Year 6: Andie Buchan with another 1st place overall in the Primary 12/13 Girls division (3km race)– an exceptional result showcasing top-tier endurance and focus.

  • Year 6: Will Middleton executed his race to a very high standard in the Primary 12/13 Boys division by securing 2nd place overall- fantastic run!

  • Year 6: Ned Simmonds dug deep to finish 7th in the Primary 12/13 boys race, super effort!

  • Year 8: Isabelle Daniel ran a great race to achieve a very solid 8th place amongst a tough field!

All of the above athletes have qualified for the NSWCIS Primary and Secondary Cross Country teams. The CIS Primary Team will compete at the NSWPSSA Cross Country Championships on Wednesday, 23 July, and the CIS Secondary Team will compete at the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships on Tuesday, 22 July, both to be held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.

Congratulations to all Lindisfarne runners for their fantastic efforts on the day and for representing the school at a high standard! Lastly, a big thank you to all of the parents for your support on the day and for helping students get to the start line!

Football Bill Turner Cup & Trophy v EAC

The boys put forward a valiant effort, but our local rivals got us this time. They went down 5-3 in the 4th round to Emmanuel College. Goals to Chaz Croke-Sims, Daniel Choi and Ethan Hicks, a massive effort from skipper Curtis Moore and some miraculous goalkeeping from Noah Tucker just weren't enough on this occasion

Please insert BOYS BT pictures here

Our girls were very dominant, with us camped down in EAC’s half and having the lion's share of possession. Our girls weren’t ruthless enough in front of the goals, with their keeper touching the ball a lot! A breakaway goal from Emmanuel put our girls on notice, with their season suddenly very much on the line. However, they equalised before half time, then came back on the field and put the opposition away with a dominant finish. Full-time 3:1, but this scoreline flattered Emmanuel, with many shots hitting the posts or just missing.

The girls are in the regional final versus Summerland Christian College, a home game next Wednesday. If the girls prevail here, they are into the final 16 again and will be back in Coffs Harbour for the pointy end of the tournament.

Paddle Queensland Canoe Marathon School Championships

Lindisfarne had a strong presence at the 2025 Paddle Queensland Canoe Marathon School Championships, held yesterday, with three students achieving outstanding results:

  • Nixon Wallace - Year 6 – 1st in U12 K1 2 km

  • Tommy Trewitt – Year 9 - 2nd in U14 TK1 4 km

  • Lyla Wessel – Year 9 - 1st in U16 TK1 6 km

The event featured over 90 craft and 29 schools from across Queensland and Northern NSW, highlighting the growing popularity of school-based paddling.

The Lindisfarne Race Kayaking program is taking a break during Term 3 (due to the cold weather), but will be back on the water for Term 4 sport.

An event wrap-up and results will be included in this week's newsletter.

NCIS Secondary Basketball Girls & Boys - Coffs Harbour

This week, four of our school basketball teams travelled to Coffs Harbour to compete in the NCIS Basketball Competition. It was a fantastic day of sport, teamwork, and competitive spirit, with all players representing our school with pride and determination.

Our Under 15 boys had a particularly strong showing, finishing second overall after a day of intense competition and impressive performances. The Under 15 girls also played some great basketball, gaining valuable experience and showing excellent growth and teamwork throughout the day, especially as their first time playing as a team.

The Open boys faced a demanding schedule with eight games, but rose to the challenge with grit and skill. They secured some solid wins and played cohesively as a team, demonstrating strong resilience and effort. Meanwhile, the Open girls had several close games and showed great composure and persistence on the court.

Notably, many of our players were competing in age groups above their own, making their efforts and achievements even more commendable. It was a day packed with action and learning — a proud moment for our Lindisfarne basketball program.

BOYS TERM 3 UPDATE

As we head to Term 3, our Lindisfarne rugby program focus shifts from XVs to 7s for the boys. We will have boys 7s squads for the following age groups: U14, U16 and U18 and have a number of tournaments scheduled to compete in. Students who have not been selected in these squads are still more than welcome to attend the Monday PM training and Thursday integrated school sport training sessions, and if there is enough demand, we will enter multiple teams in tournaments for the younger age groups. Please check the Key Dates in this document HERE and in particular mark the NSW Regional and State Finals and QLD All Schools 7s in your calendars. Also, for all NSW Far North Coast club rugby players, please note that two of the QLD Rugby 7s tournaments (e.g., Moreton Bay and QLD All Schools) are on a Friday, and there may be clashes with travel times and game locations.

NSW AICES U16 and U18 BOYS RUGBY TRIALS

We had a number of Lindisfarne boys travel down to Sydney to represent North Coast Independent Schools (NCIS) in the NSW AICES U16 and U18 boys rugby trials. All Lindisfarne students gave a great account of themselves in these trials, and from this, our school has had three boys selected for the NSW AICES U16 and U18 squads (this would be the equivalent of a NSW CIS selection). From here, they will have a camp late in June and then play against other NSW school associations (e.g., NSW CHS, NSW GPS) for selection in two NSW schoolboy teams.

Our 1st XV came out of the gates very strongly to start the first half against Scots PGC, scoring two quick tries. After this initial period of dominance, Scots started to find its way back into the game by scoring an unconverted try to go into the break with a 12-5 lead. After the break, our 1st XV played some great football in the second half, running in 4 more tries to take the score to 38-5. The standouts for our 1st XV were our vice-captain Koen Hodge, who scored two tries, is developing a great in and out swerve and was sharp on the counter attack from fullback; Max Reid, who ran with purpose all day and also scored two tries; and Finley Watson, who ended up on the back of a try of the year contender for our 1st XV with the ball going through multiple pairs of hands in the lead up to scoring. Jesse Bravington, Louis Jones, and Tucker Groves also carried the ball extremely strongly, and Samual Stovin was a rock for our backline on defence and slippery on attack.

U16

Last Friday in Warwick, the Lindisfarne U16s displayed commendable character and discipline in their match against a younger and less experienced Scots PCG U15 side. Mr Hall and Mr Kerr were extremely proud of the maturity shown, both in conduct and gameplay. The team used the opportunity to focus on attacking structures rehearsed during the week, while on defence, they allowed their opponents the chance to build confidence and maintain possession, a gesture that helped foster growth and learning for the younger team.

Max Esgate steered the team with maturity and excellent game awareness, consistently putting teammates in strong attacking positions. Jack Cross made an immediate impact on the wing, showcasing his skillset and scoring multiple tries through sheer effort and support play. James Green and Tucker Groves worked diligently on their handling and offload skills, consciously avoiding physical dominance to instead challenge themselves technically. Rhys Jones and Archie Loemker impressed with their wide-ranging support play, adding new dimensions to their attacking repertoire. While the scoreline was unrecorded due to its margin, the real takeaway was the respectful and constructive approach of the Lindisfarne boys, turning a lopsided fixture into a meaningful learning experience for all involved.

U14

The U14 Lindisfarne Lions closed out their Term 2 rugby season with an impressive display on the road against Scots PGC in Warwick. In cold and windy conditions, the boys delivered one of their most complete performances of the year, securing a comprehensive victory. The Lions were relentless in attack, with Henry Alford, Oli Costello, Jack Brown, and Lou Robin each crossing the line twice in a dominant showing. Just as impressive was the team’s defensive effort, holding Scots scoreless and refusing to allow them over the try line—a testament to the commitment and discipline shown across the park.

The win at Scots PGC capped off a successful few weeks for the Lions, who also completed their APS season with a gutsy 19–12 win over Somerset College. With a number of key players away representing the Far North Coast in Orange that weekend, the result was particularly pleasing. The squad stepped up across the board, showcasing the depth and determination that has been building throughout the year. The victory over Somerset was hard-fought and well-earned, rounding out a competitive and rewarding APS campaign.

Looking back on the season, the U14 Lions can be incredibly proud of their progress. From tough early encounters at Ballymore Cup to dominant victories and well-structured performances, the squad has grown in confidence, cohesion, and rugby intelligence. Strong individual performances have been complemented by an ever-improving team dynamic, with leadership emerging both on and off the field.

As Term 3 approaches, the focus shifts to the 7s format, with training and tournaments set to begin in the coming weeks. With momentum behind them and plenty of talent across the squad, the Lions are well-positioned for another exciting chapter in their rugby journey.

U18 Girls

The girls travelled to Warwick to face Scots PGC in two fiercely contested games, showing tremendous heart and skill across both matches. In Game 1, they led for much of the match before a converted try in injury time saw them edged out 29-31 in a heartbreaking finish. Ruby Power led the team with determination, making strong carries and setting the tone throughout. Zoe Marshall was a force with the ball in hand, regularly breaking through the defensive line, while Ruby Lynch stood tall in defence, showing great resolve under pressure. Tiggi Groves contributed solidly in both attack and defence, and Shelby Osborne impressed with confident runs that challenged the opposition.

Game 2 followed a similar pattern, with both teams scoring three tries, but the girls fell just short again, 15-21, with conversions proving the difference. Lois Diver continued her impressive development, adding impact in both attack and defence, while Seannah Weston supported well across the park. The team showed great resilience and unity against strong opposition, and their performances across both games reflect their growth and potential as a group. These close contests will only fuel their motivation moving forward.

Dr Jennar has an extensive background in contact sports and currently works with Tweed Seagulls Rugby League Cup squad, Brisbane Broncos NRLW team, QLD Women’s State of Origin team and has been to two Rugby League World Cups with both the Australian and Papua New Guinea Women’s National teams. You can find out more about the team of staff at Physio Place HERE.

Monday After School (Y7-12) and Tuesday Before School (1st XV Wider Squad) Training

PLEASE NOTE THE WEDNESDAY AM SESSION IN TERM ONE HAS BEEN MOVED TO TUESDAY AM FOR TERM 2 FOR THE 1st XV WIDER TRAINING SQUAD. There will be 6 of these training sessions in term 2, and they will be held in W2 (6/5), W3 (3/5), W4 (20/5), W6 (3/6), W7 (10/6), and W8 (17/6).

In 2025, our main training sessions outside of school time are on Monday after school (1530-1645) for all Y7-12 players and Tuesday before school until the end of P1 (0700-0940) for our 1st XV wider squad. Rugby union is a team sport, and we still need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program. If there is any way we can be of assistance to help facilitate this, please let us know.

Also, please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume our Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning training sessions will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know with as much time as possible if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.

School Uniform and Training Attire

Students should be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday, i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar and not the school sports polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and a spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.

Outside of rugby training times, students should be in the correct uniform, which includes wearing the school sports polo on Thursday in P1-2 and P5-6 and in PE lessons and not rugby training tops.

Stack Team APP

The Stack Team app will be our Rugby Union program’s main form of communication for all our squads.

As a reminder, both parents and Boys’ / Girls’ 7s students who have parental permission for smartphones will need to download the app and join the Lindisfarne Rugby Program in the app.

To download the Stack team app, use the following links:

● iOS: https://www.teamapp.com/ios-ap...

● Android: https://www.teamapp.com/androi...

Once downloaded, please search for 'Lindisfarne Rugby Program' and request to join.

NCIS Basketball Competition – Coffs Harbour

Paddle Queensland Canoe Marathon School Championships 2025

The 2025 Paddle Queensland Canoe Marathon School Championships was a record-breaking event that showcased the rising wave of young paddling talent across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

Held on Tuesday, the championships welcomed 29 schools, representing a diverse mix of independent, Catholic, and state schools from metropolitan, coastal, and regional communities. From Brisbane Girls Grammar to Toowoomba Anglican School, the breadth of participation highlighted the growing strength and popularity of school-based paddling programs.

Students competed in 33 unique race categories, with over 90 craft taking to the water across morning and afternoon sessions. With a range of craft types, including K1S, TKs, and guppies, the event offered an inclusive and exciting racing experience for all age groups and skill levels.

Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School paddlers achieved fantastic results on the day:
- Nixon Wallace – 1st in U12 K1 2 km
- Tommy Trewitt – 2nd in U14 TK1 4 km
- Lyla Wessel – 1st in U16 TK1 6 km

Looking ahead, students are encouraged to sign up for Lindisfarne’s Race Kayaking Program, which runs as part of the Thursday sports program. The program restarts in Term Four, offering structured coaching and exposure to the exciting discipline of race kayaking, and culminates in participation at the Marathon Championships. It also provides strong development pathways for those interested in performance paddling, with direct links to surf lifesaving and surfski paddling.

Dance X Eisteddford

We are incredibly proud of our Dance Performance and Dance Development teams for their beautiful performances at the Dance X Regional Eisteddfod last Friday. Across multiple sections, our students showcased their talent, teamwork and passion for dance, achieving numerous placings and impressing both the audience and judges with their professionalism and commitment.

It was a joy to witness the growth, energy and creativity of our dancers on stage. Their hard work and dedication in the lead-up to the event truly paid off, and they represented our school with pride.

While the event is titled “NSW Regional Eisteddfod,” it’s worth noting that a school from Brisbane with a dedicated, full-time dance program participated this year and placed first in every section and had multiple entries per section, therefore sometimes receiving first and second. Despite this, our students held their own with great determination and spirit, and we are so proud of what they achieved.

A special mention goes to Year 9 student Sophie Kershler, who choreographed her first full-length work for the Year 9 curriculum class. Her piece was awarded Regional Champion, an incredible achievement for a student choreographer and a testament to her emerging talent and leadership.

Congratulations also to Year 4 student Isla Howarth, who was named Regional Champion for her solo performance in the primary school section, when she is only in Year 4!

The Leona Performance Team was honoured with the Special Award for Most Memorable High School Dance across the entire competition, an extraordinary accolade recognising the group’s powerful storytelling and presence on stage.

Congratulations to all dancers from Year 3-11, your efforts continue to inspire our school community!

Year 11 Drama Production: Where in the World is Frank Sparrow?

Last Thursday and Friday evening, our Year 11 Drama students delivered a captivating performance of Where in the World is Frank Sparrow? This modern play blends poetic storytelling and symbolic characters, drawing inspiration from Irish mythology, urban legends, and timeless themes from classics like Romeo & Juliet and the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.

The production featured a carefully crafted soundtrack, creative use of lighting and shadow, and an industrial-inspired set design which created an immersive atmosphere that captured the play’s otherworldly feel.

Our students brought the complex world of Frank Sparrow to life with impressive collaboration, physicality, and vocal expression, elevating the performance well beyond expectations.

I am incredibly proud of the Year 11 class for their dedication throughout the rehearsals and performances. They embraced the play’s challenging, abstract style with confidence and creativity. Congratulations and sincere thanks to all those involved.
