Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to Term 4.
I hope the recent holiday break provided your family with a chance to rest, reset, and reconnect after a busy Term 3. We were certainly fortunate to have glorious spring sunshine over the fortnight, and I trust many of you enjoyed some well-earned downtime.
We have eased back into school life with a short but lively four-day week. Term 4 is always a key part of the school year, a fast-paced and celebratory period filled with milestone events, academic achievements, and community occasions that bring us together. Although we are just beginning, this week has already set the tone for what looks to be a memorable term.
On Wednesday morning, we hosted our largest Principal’s Tour of the year at our Mahers Lane campus. It was encouraging to see such strong interest from new and prospective families seeking a Lindisfarne education for their children. There is always something special about showing our school in action, walking through busy classrooms, engaging with staff, and sharing the values and vision that define our learning community.
This morning, we had the great pleasure of holding our 2026 Year 12 Leadership Induction, officially welcoming the 2026 Student Leaders. As our current Year 11 students prepare to step into their senior roles, it was a proud and moving moment to celebrate their appointment in front of their families, friends, and peers. These young leaders have already shown great promise, and we look forward to seeing how they will shape the culture and spirit of Lindisfarne in the year ahead.
Next Monday afternoon, we will host one of our most popular traditions, the Staff vs Students Cricket Match, from 3.00pm at Reg Dalton Oval in Kingscliff. This spirited match is the final chapter in our “friendly rivalry” series and always attracts a crowd of students, staff, and families. Come along, cheer from the sidelines, and enjoy the fun of this uniquely Lindisfarne event.
Additionally, next week, we look forward to our Year 4 to Year 5 Transition Service, a meaningful milestone and event. As our Year 4 students prepare to move up to the Mahers Lane campus, this service is a significant part of our transition program as we start to welcome our students into the Middle School. We look forward to celebrating this important step with our students and their families.
While it is only Week 1, there is already a sense of momentum building across the school. Term 4 is always full of activity, and I encourage all students to make the most of every moment. I thank you, as always, for your ongoing support as we navigate this final, exciting term of the school year together.
Wishing you a restful weekend ahead.
Warm regards,

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Guardians,
As we commence Term 4 I would like to draw your attention to a topic I spoke on during last term’s Chapel services - the supreme Christian virtue of love.
You know, I have always admired those who have the knack of giving the right answer at the right time right off the cuff. At best, I'm more likely to come up with it after the event and then wishing that I'd thought of it in time.
But Jesus was the master of giving the supreme answer whenever he was questioned and Mark 12:28-34 is a perfect example of this.
Where we pick up the story, a Scribe - an expert in Jewish Law - cuts to the chase, by asking Jesus the most important question of all: “Which commandment is the first of all?”
The Scribe is not merely asking, which is the most important commandment, but which commandment comes first, Prote in the Greek, from where we get words like prototype and proton.
You see, what the Scribe is actually asking is which commandment supersedes everything and is therefore required by all humanity, not just those who had the Law of Moses. However, it is from the Law of Moses that he expects Jesus to draw his answer.
It has been calculated that there are 613 commandments - 248 do’s and 365 don’ts (one for each day of the year) in the Law of Moses and it was common practice at the time to ask up-and-coming Rabbis if they could summarize all these laws in a nutshell. And the answer given would determine the quality of the Rabbi’s teaching.
But whilst it was a stock standard question, it was also a tricky one, because even a good answer could leave Rabbis open to the accusation that they had overlooked some other aspect of the Law which was just as important as what they came up with.
Yet, despite the rock-and-a-hard-place nature of the question, many noted Rabbis sought to answer it.
20 years before Jesus the famous Rabbi Hillel summed up the Law in a negative version of the Golden Rule; “What you would not want done to you, do not do to your neighbour. This is the entire Law, everything else is just commentary.”
A century after Jesus, Rabbi Akiba reduced the law to the command to Love your neighbour as yourself.
Then a century later it was affirmed that the heart of the Law is encapsulated in Proverbs 3:6: “In all your ways acknowledge God, and he will make straight your paths.”
Then later still, Rabbi Simlai quoted Habakkuk 2:4 as a summary of the Law; “the righteous shall live by faith.’
Now, as good as these answers are, Jesus' answer is far better. In fact, it is utter genius.
Jesus leads in with the Shema (see Deuteronomy 6:4) which is taken from the first word, meaning hear, or listen, or better still take heed, in order to understand and obey. The Shema is still to this day recited morning and evening by pious Jews as a statement of belief and as such it marks the most sacred section of the Torah - the Law of Moses - the first 5 books of the Hebrew Scriptures.
And it is from this creedal statement that the command to love God flows. The four-fold all emphasises the all-encompassing nature of this love. It involves all the heart, soul, mind and strength. That is, emotions, spirit, intellect and will. The command is to love God with our entire being - with all that we are.
But Jesus does not stop there, he points to another commandment which comes in second place to loving God – loving one’s neighbour as one’s self.
Now, the combination of these two commandments has become commonplace in Christianity. However it is important for us to realize the revolutionary nature of Jesus’ answer. Although love of God and love of neighbour were both affirmed separately in Judaism, there is no evidence before Jesus’ time that they were ever combined.
But the funny thing is, Jesus combining them as a summary of the entire Law, seems so obvious, when you think about it.
You know, If I was asked the question, I would have thought one of the top ten - the Ten Commandments - would have been a safe bet. But Jesus’ dual answer doesn’t refer directly to any of the Ten Commandments, but what it does do is summarise them.
You see, when we look closely at The Ten Commandments, the first 4 have to do with our relationship to God, the 5th, our parents, and the other five with others.
Now if you love God, you will automatically obey the first 4, not out of compulsion or obligation, or even out of fear of punishment, but as a loving response.
And if you truly love your neighbour as yourself, you’re not going to cause them harm by murdering them or stealing from them, because you want what’s best for them.
So simple and yet so radical is this concept that St Augustine, arguably the greatest theological mind of the past 2000 years of Christian history, had no qualms in suggesting that we should love and do whatever we like. For if we love God and neighbour as ourselves then everything else will find its proper place.
Jesus’ summary of the Law covers both the vertical and the horizontal relationship, which, not by accident, forms the sign of the cross, where Jesus expressed the fullness of his love for God and us.
Jesus’ answer to this most important question shows that Christianity is not about keeping a bunch of rules but about being in a relationship with God that impacts positively on our relationship with others.
To finish, I’d like to turn to the Scribe, who upon agreeing with Jesus’ answer, was told that he was not far from the kingdom. Indeed he wasn’t, as he was only 18 inches away. But unfortunately, that’s the 18 inch chasm – from the head to the heart.
You see, it is not until we are open to the love of God made manifest in Jesus that we can experience it. This is the only way to receive it, with arms wide open, as it comes from the one who gave it, with arms wide open.
Have a great term.
Blessings,
Reverend Lyndon

Welcome back! And welcome to Term 4! We hope all our students and families had a refreshing break and are ready for an exciting and rewarding final term of the year. The coming weeks will be filled with learning, special events, and celebrations as we draw another successful school year to a close.
Next week is Wellbeing Week, and we have a fantastic program of activities and learning opportunities built around the theme “Take Notice / Pay Attention.” This theme invites us to pause and truly see, to notice our feelings, our relationships, our surroundings, and the beauty in everyday life. In an age of constant distraction, taking notice helps us reconnect with ourselves, one another, and the world around us. Through mindfulness, gratitude, and awareness, we hope to empower students to cultivate calm, connection, and appreciation in their daily lives.
A highlight of Wellbeing Week will be our Grandparents Day, a cherished event that allows our students to share their learning, creativity, and pride in their school with their grandparents and special friends. These intergenerational connections enrich both young and old(er), reminding us that learning and love flow both ways across the generations. For our students, it’s a chance to express gratitude and to understand the wisdom and experiences of those who came before them; for grandparents, it’s an opportunity to see firsthand the joy and energy of our young learners.
Our students will soon begin participating in transition programs, helping them prepare confidently for the next stage of their learning journey here at Lindisfarne. These experiences are designed to build confidence, independence, and excitement about what lies ahead. It’s always wonderful to see our students reflect on their growth and look forward to new challenges with enthusiasm. For our Year 4 students, this is an especially exciting time as they prepare to finish their time in the Junior School and make the move to Mahers Lane next year as members of the Middle School. Our Middle School counterparts, including the Year Coordinators, Dean of Students, and the Middle School Leadership Team, are already busy ensuring a seamless and supportive transition for both students and parents as they take this important next step in their educational journey.
As we enter the final stretch of the year, I encourage all students to continue working hard and finishing the year strongly. The effort and focus they put in now will help set them up for the best possible start to their next year at Lindisfarne.
A friendly reminder that uniform and appearance standards remain an important part of our school identity and culture. A few “holiday haircuts” have made their way back to school, and we appreciate parents’ support in upholding our agreed expectations and ensuring these matters are addressed promptly. Thank you for helping us maintain the sense of pride and belonging that comes from wearing our uniform well.
We look forward to a fantastic Term 4, a time to celebrate growth, connection, and the many achievements of our Junior School community.

World Teachers’ Day
At the end of this month, schools around the world will celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a time to recognise and thank teachers for their dedication, care, and commitment to their students.
At Lindisfarne, appreciation is part of who we are; a community that values gratitude and respect. When people feel appreciated, they feel connected, motivated, and inspired to make a difference.
Our teachers thoughtfully plan for each student’s learning, nurture curiosity, and build strong, caring relationships. They listen, encourage, and guide students to grow both academically and personally, making a lasting impact every day.
As we approach World Teachers’ Day, I encourage families and students to take a moment to express their appreciation - a kind word or simple thank you can mean so much.

Ad Astra nominations
Lindisfarne is proud to offer the Ad Astra program again in 2026 for students entering Years 6, 7 and 8. The name “Ad Astra” comes from the Latin phrase Per Ardua Ad Astra -‘through hard work to the stars.’This program supports high-performing and high-potential students by extending their academic achievement and developing advanced thinking skills. It offers learning experiences beyond the standard curriculum, including above-level testing, future-focused problem solving and participation in national and international competitions. The curriculum is planned to challenge students who:
- Learn at faster rates
- Solve problems and act on solutions readily
- Manipulate abstract ideas and make advanced connections
Students participate in both enrichment (broadening knowledge and developing thinking skills) and extension (deepening understanding and enhancing expertise) activities. They work with like-minded peers in a stimulating environment that fosters independent learning, openness to academic challenge and the ability to use feedback to improve Seesaw
We’re excited to share that Stage 3 will be trialling Seesaw this term to provide families with regular snapshots of student learning. Seesaw is an interactive platform that allows students to showcase their work and gives families a window into classroom experiences and progress.
As this is a soft rollout, we’ll begin by sharing selected learning highlights over the term to help everyone become familiar with the platform and how it works.
You should have received a link from your child’s teacher. Please check your emails if you haven’t, or contact your teacher for more information.
We’re looking forward to strengthening the home-school connection and celebrating the wonderful learning taking place across Stage 3.

Head of Senior School Report
Welcome back to the final term of the school year. While it is a short one, it promises to be very full and productive as we bring another academic year to a close.
This week marks an important milestone for our senior students with the commencement of the HSC Examinations on Thursday. We wish our Year 12 students all the very best as they begin this significant final stage of their school journey. Their hard work, determination and resilience throughout the year have been admirable, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements in the coming weeks at the Eucharist, Formal and Speech Day.
Today we celebrated a special occasion with our Year 11 Leadership Induction Assembly. All Year 11 students were formally inducted as the new senior cohort, and those selected to serve as Prefects and Captains for 2026 received their leadership badges. At Lindisfarne, we place great emphasis on the idea that leadership extends beyond a badge or title. Every student in the Senior School has the capacity to lead through their actions, their attitude, and the positive example they set for others.
This week staff have noted some lapses in uniform and grooming standards among Senior School students. In particular, concerns have been raised about skirt length and boys arriving at school unshaven. These are easily addressed issues, but they do require the support of our parent and guardian community.
Our Parent and Student Guide clearly outlines expectations in this area:
“The Lindisfarne uniform has been designed to serve practical purposes, ensure students feel pride in their school, and experience a sense of equality in what they wear to school. The correct wearing of the school uniform reflects students’ standards of self-discipline. As such, a high standard of personal dress and grooming is required at all times.”
Students are encouraged to take responsibility for maintaining these standards. Parents and caregivers are also expected to ensure students arrive at school appropriately groomed and in the correct uniform. Students who attend school unshaven will be required to shave at school under the supervision of the School Nurse (with parental permission). If permission is not provided, the student will need to be collected and may not return until they are clean-shaven.
Regarding the girls’ uniform, the skirt length must be no shorter than “on the knee”. Staff will be following up with students who do not meet this expectation. A short timeframe will be provided for students to rectify these issues, whether that involves unrolling the waistband, letting down the hem, or, if necessary, purchasing a new skirt from the Uniform Shop.
We take pride in the way our students represent the School, and these standards have long been part of our school’s culture. I ask for your ongoing support in helping our young people meet these expectations and uphold the values of Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School.

Being on Time
School starts at 8.20am
At Lindisfarne, we are proud of the high standards we set for our students not only in academics and behaviour, but also in personal responsibility. One of the most important daily habits we can all develop is punctuality. Being on time shows respect for others, readiness to learn, and a genuine commitment to school life.
A reminder to all families that school begins at 8.20am. This is not a flexible start time; it is an expectation, not a choice. Being on time means students can maximise time in homeroom, engage with their peers, hear important announcements, check diaries and begin the day feeling organised and calm. Arriving late, on the other hand, can cause unnecessary stress for the student and disrupt the start of learning for others. We all appreciate that sometimes “life” happens and there is the odd late arrival but for many habitual lateness is starting to creep in.
In response to this, we have introduced the following process in the Senior School to help ensure that all students are in class and ready to start their day on time:
If you are late, you must still go directly to homeroom. Your teacher needs to see you in front of them.
If you are marked late, a note will be made on your file, which will include parent notification
Being continuously late, which amounts to three late arrivals in one term will result in an S1 lunchtime detention being issued.
An accumulation of three S1 detentions will lead to an after-school detention and a potential parent meeting as we work to support you in arriving at school and moving to homeroom on time.
We want to work together with families to help students build better routines. If lateness is an issue, we encourage students to leave home earlier, account for traffic and congestion, and allow extra time to walk from the drop-off area to class.
Tutor time is an essential part of the day, it’s not optional. It’s not a time to stop at the bathroom, chat with friends, or slowly make your way to class. By being punctual, students demonstrate respect for their teachers, their peers, and themselves.
Let’s work together to set the tone for success. In class at 8.20am, everyone, every day!

Kokoda Award and Recognition
With the Kokoda Challenge done and dusted for another year it was really exciting for Lindisfarne to be acknowledged at the recent 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner. During the evening the Kokoda Foundation acknowledged and thanked those that have made significant contributions. Members of the community that have given of their time to support and grow the Kokoda program were thanked and schools that have made a significant contribution were recognised. Only ten schools were honoured and Lindisfarne was proud to be one of these. In receiving the award, the citations recognised Lindisfarne's ability to engage students from Year 7 to Year 12 and we were thanked for the ongoing support across the Brisbane and Gold Coast Event.
We are very proud of our Kokoda program with well over 1000 students now having completed an event. We are excited to see where it goes next and we look forward to what 2026 holds.
Kokoda -Papua New Guinea
On 10 November, 6 of our walkers who have all completed the 96km event will venture over to Papua New Guinea. From here they will catch a small plane to Poponetta and then walk the Kokoda track, 96 km over 9 days back to Owens Corner. Along the way they will acknowledge and remember the Australian Soldiers from the 39th Battalion that fought to protect Australia during WW2. All students will research a soldier and share their story along the way. We have no doubt that this walk will be very challenging both physically and emotionally but we also know it will embed memories that will last a lifetime.

Lindisfarne fielded teams across multiple divisions, with each squad displaying commitment, pride, and growth throughout the week. Also, our coaches were busy with ‘coaching’ and missed the ‘take a photo of your teams for the newsletter’ memo - so, we are a little short on photos. Apologies.

RECENT GAMES
QLD EMERGING SCHOOLS 7s
Our girls U16 and U14 7s squads travelled up to play in the QLD Rugby Emerging Schools 7s tournament at John Paul College on Wednesday of this week.
U16 GIRLS
The final rugby tournament of the year for our U16 girls was the Queensland Emerging Schools Tournament at John Paul College near Brisbane. The amazing setting at Daisy Hill with fantastic grounds set the scene for some fantastic rugby. Our girls had 4 games to play against some new schools we haven’t played previously this year including St Thomas More College, Brigidine College, West Moreton Anglican College and John Paul College.
Our first game of the day was a poor performance by our own standards resulting in a draw against St Thomas More College. After some reflection, the girls were determined to play to a better standard against a very tough Brigidine College team. It was by far the best team performance of the year for these girls. Their ferocious defence from start to finish, combined with their fantastic play with ball in hand enabled them to complete a thoroughly deserved victory of 20-10.
Our next game ended up being a very close game after leading 30-5, allowing West Moreton Anglican College back into the game with four late tries giving us a slender 30-25 victory.
Leading into our last game against John Paul College, we knew that if we won we would take out the title but it was always going to be tough as for part of the game we were down to only 6 players due to injuries. The game was 5-5 at half time and with Lindisfarne scoring the only try in the second, we won the game and the tournament with a 10-5 victory.
What was particularly pleasing was the performance by the team without a couple of our strongest players who were absent. Our player of the day voted by the team was Ruby Lynch our new school girls rugby captain for 2026. She showed fantastic leadership, a huge workrate and a very low error rate. Special mention to Eden Davison and Shelby Osborne who also received lots of votes for their performances, Eden for her strong effort on defence and Shelby on attack who scored some nice tries and set up lots of tries for others.
Ivy Gilbert, was incredibly strong on attack and defence throughout the day as was Milla Sergiacomi, both girls going from strength to strength with their development in the game.
Makayla Simmonds continued to show great progress in her playmaking role, running nice lines and setting up her team well. Pearl Baker made a strong return to the team with some fantastic defence in our final game and Mayzie Rourke prior to getting injured was her usual energetic self, running and tackling hard.
What a great way to finish the season with some great performances and taking out our first title of the year for the girls programme. The girls are already excited about 2026 and we encourage any girls who would like to join in the fun of girls rugby to touch base with the rugby staff or our current players.

U14 GIRLS
We had another great day of rugby at John Paul College for the emerging schools 7s.
Our under 14 girls showed fantastic potential winning 2 out of 4 games. This is a great result for our u14s with a few new players this carnival. Our constant improvement in contact and at the ruck is very promising. The confidence and skill shown in Eadie Sergiacomi’s passing and tackling earned her the player of the day. A special mention to Andie Gilbert for her fierce tackling and Lulu Skene for her ability to find space.
Our work rate and ability to shift the ball won us the games against Trinity and John Paul College which make us super excited to work with these young players in the coming years.

Monday After School (Y7-12) and Tuesday Before School (Open Boys 7s Wider Squad) Training
In Term 3, our main training sessions outside of school time are on Monday after school (1530-1645) for all Y7-12 players and Tuesday before school until the end of P1 (0700-0940) for the U18 and U16 7s training squad on the following dates in September: 2/9, 9/9 and 16/9. Rugby union is a team sport and we still need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program. If there is any way we can be of assistance to help facilitate this, please let us know.
Also, please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume our Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning training sessions will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know with as much time as possible if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.
School Uniform and Training Attire
Students should be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar and not the school sport polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.
Outside of rugby training times, students should be in the correct uniform, which includes wearing the school sport polo on Thursday in P1-2 and P5-6 and in PE lessons and not rugby training tops.
Stack Team APP
The Stack Team app will be our Rugby Union program’s main form of communication for all our squads.
As a reminder, both parents and Boy’s / Girl’s 7s students who have parental permission for smartphones will need to download the app and join the Lindisfarne Rugby Program in the app.
To download the Stack team app, use the following links:
● iOS: https://www.teamapp.com/ios-ap...
● Android: https://www.teamapp.com/androi...
Once downloaded, please search for 'Lindisfarne Rugby Program' and request to join.

Ad Astra 2026
Lindisfarne is proud to again offer the Ad Astra program in 2026. The name “Ad Astra” is derived from the Latin phrase “Per Ardua Ad Astra”, which means “through hard work to the stars”. The Ad Astra Program provides students with opportunities to further develop and extend their academic abilities. They will work with like-minded and similarly capable students in a challenging environment to enable them to reach their highest academic potential. This program will continue Years 6, 7 and 8. An email has been sent to all parents of students in years 5, 6 and 7 outlining the process to apply for this program. Students currently in the Ad Astra program will not need to reapply.
Key dates:
1. Attend an online Parent Information session on Tuesday, 14th October at 6:00 pm (NSW time). This session will explain the structure and expectations of the AdAstra program and address any questions parents may have. Please use the link provided: Online Parent Information Session

3. Applicants who are new enrolments to the school in 2024 will need to be available on Saturday, 1st November, from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm to complete rigorous testing, as part of the application process. Please arrive at the Chapel by 8:45 am. If your child usually requires special provisions, please email Mrs Jacqui O’Sullivan at jacqueline.osullivan@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au before the examination date, along with evidence from your child's school or Individual Plan.

Waste Free Lunches

Recycling Hub
At Lindisfarne, our recycling hubs collect items that cannot be recycled through traditional recycling systems, such as pens and markers, mobile phones, plastic toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, and so much more. The collected waste is sent to specialised recycling facilities that can accept these items. At the end of last term, a large shipment of waste from the recycling hub was sent off. The shipment was 85.7 kg and included:
54.8 kg of coffee pods
27.1 kg of batteries
3.8 kg of hair care product packaging
I have attached some photos of the recycling that was sent off. Thanks to the efforts of the Lindisfarne community, we have recycled over 180 thousand items with our recycling hubs! Let's make sure we keep this up! This waste is recycled within Australia into new items like bikes, bowls, plates, playgrounds and outdoor furniture. The following resources show the process behind how these items are recycled:
Behind the scenes look at TerraCycle's Australian recycling facilities
360 degree behind the scenes look at a coffee pod recycling facility

Our recycling hubs are located near student admin at Mahers Lane and in the assembly area at the Junior School.
Thank you to everyone who drops off their waste at the recycling hubs.
