Foreword

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been a vibrant week of learning and achievement at Lindisfarne as we continue to enjoy the many special moments that Term 4 has to offer.

Last Saturday evening, we gathered at Movie World for the 2025 Year 12 Formal. What a spectacular night it was, a joyful and stylish celebration of the Class of 2025. The venue sparkled, our students looked sensational, and the energy was infectious. It was a fitting way to acknowledge the incredible journey our Year 12s have taken and to share a moment of gratitude and pride with their families, friends, and teachers.

On Tuesday, we paused to observe Remembrance Day. Our commemorative service was moving and dignified, offering a space to commemorate the end of World War 1 and honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in wars and peacekeeping missions. I thank our staff and students for their respectful observance of Remembrance Day.

The Stage 3 musical production on Wednesday, Charli’s Journey, was nothing short of outstanding. Written and directed by Ms Kim Shephard and Ms Leona Konik, this original production captured the emotions of a young student navigating the first day of school. It was heartfelt, funny, and deeply relatable. Congratulations to every student who performed, supported backstage, or worked behind the scenes. You should be so proud of what you created. And thank you to our dedicated Performing Arts staff for making a production of this quality possible.

Thursday morning’s Principal’s Tour at our Sunshine Avenue Campus welcomed a number of prospective families. It is always encouraging to see such strong interest in a Lindisfarne education, and to witness our youngest students proudly sharing their learning environment. My thanks to the Junior School staff and students at Sunshine Avenue who warmly welcomed our guests and visitors.

Today, we hosted two events that are important steps in the Lindisfarne journey. Our Kindergarten to Year 2 Fun Swimming Carnival was filled with excitement, laughter, and enthusiasm, a great introduction to friendly competition and water confidence. Simultaneously, we welcomed our incoming Year 7 cohort, the Class of 2031, for their 2026 Year 7 Orientation Day. This marks a significant transition, and we look forward to helping the students settle into the Middle School next year as they begin the Secondary years of their schooling.

This Sunday, the Lindisfarne community will gather for one of our most anticipated cultural events, the annual Speech and Drama Festival. I wish our students well as they showcase their creativity, confidence, and flair for performance. It promises to be another highlight of the term.

A reminder that we are just one week away from the annual Principal’s Evening of Thanks, taking place on Thursday, 21 November at 5:45pm in our Senior Centre. This event is a twilight celebration of gratitude and community and a chance to enjoy an exclusive guided tour of our spectacular new space. There will be Champagne on arrival, gourmet canapés, and live student performances.

This is a complimentary, adults-only event for Lindisfarne parents and caregivers, and supporters of the School. Please kindly RSVP at your earliest convenience to assist with catering arrangements, and I hope to see many of you there as we celebrate the 2025 School year together.

Wishing you a safe and joyful weekend ahead.

Warm regards,

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Guardians,

Last Friday, 7 November we held a very moving Graduation Eucharist in Ngahriyah. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who made it such a wonderful occasion, especially our student Choir who sang most beautifully.

Following is the script of the sermon I preached on this momentous occasion, encouraging our graduating Year 12s to let their light shine beyond their time here at Lindisfarne:

Well, here we are, at the culmination of 13 years of your primary and secondary education.

Some of you may have been at Lindisfarne for its entirety and the rest of you joined us sometime along the way.

So whether you have been with us since Junior, Middle, or Senior School, at some point you went through the enrolment process when you were encouraged to truly embrace our school motto:

“Luceat Lux Vestra - Let Your Light Shine,” both during your time with us and after you graduate.

You are now on the cusp of the latter and so I would like to encourage you all, as you go out into the big old world, to let your light shine, wherever you may go.

Because the thing is, the world would often prefer us to conform rather than to shine uniquely.

In fact, the Gospel reading Mr Marquardt just read (Matthew 5:14-16), from where our motto comes, was actually, originally, a critique as much as it was an encouragement.

You see, ancient Israel was called to be God’s chosen people, not for their own sake, but to be a light to the nations. But instead of shining God’s light for all to see, they went from just wanting to be like everyone else to shutting themselves off from the outside world.

So when Jesus said that a city on a hilltop cannot be hidden, he wasn’t just talking about any old city on any old hill, he was referring to Israel’s ancient capital city - the hilled city of Jerusalem.

And on the highest peak of Jerusalem was Mount Zion, where the Temple was built, from where God’s light was to shine most brightly, attracting all people to that light like a moth to a flame.

But instead of shining their light for all to see, they ultimately became inwardly focused and, in effect, put their light under a basket.

This is why Jesus came to be God’s light to the world - as we heard in our opening Scripture sentence (John 8:12) - so that all could be drawn to God’s light shining through him.

But what does all this mean for our graduating Year 12s?

Well, it is to encourage you not to make the same mistake ancient Israel did.

As I tell my boys, it is good to learn from your own mistakes, it is even better to learn from someone else’s.

Each and every one of you has your own light to shine, your own unique contribution to make, so that our world can be a better, brighter, place.

So don’t just try to be like anyone else - as all the other roles are taken already - don’t just hide away, but shine the light that God has given to each and everyone of you.

For our world can be a dark place. Go, and make it brighter!

As the prologue to John’s Gospel so powerfully states, and with this I’ll close; ‘In him (that is, in Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’

Blessings,

Reverend Lyndon
School Chaplain

Bus Information

For new students enrolled for 2026 who require a Lindisfarne Bus, please submit a bus application, at your earliest convenience. Link is on our website.

Students who currently travel on a Lindisfarne Bus, DO NOT need to reapply.

The Lindisfarne buses provide a service for students registered to travel to and from the closest bus stop to the residential address of the family. The Lindisfarne Bus service does not have the capacity to meet requests such as transport for students to swap buses for travel to other locations for sport, work, social or other reasons.

Should your child need to attend such an activity, we advise you to make alternative arrangements, like carpooling, to transport your child to their event.

Social Media Age Restrictions

Supporting Teens Through the New Social Media Age Restrictions

From 10 December 2025, age-restricted social media platforms will be required to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under the age of 16 from creating or continuing to use social media accounts. These new restrictions aim to protect young people from digital harm. While many parents welcome the change, research from ReachOut shows that most young people aged 12–15 (72%) disagree or have mixed feelings about it.

Understanding the Impacts

Social media plays a central role in teen friendships, self-expression, and access to information. Many teens use these platforms to connect with peers, find community, and explore their identities. For some, especially those from marginalised backgrounds, it’s also a space where they feel represented and supported. Losing access can lead to feelings of isolation, uncertainty, and reduced confidence.

How to Support Your Teen

• Listen closely and validate their feelings.

• Help them focus on what they can control and practise acceptance.

• Encourage positive offline activities like sport, journalling, or creative hobbies.

• Support them to build in-person friendships.

• Find ways to spend positive, device-free time together as a family.

Navigating Behaviour Changes

It’s natural for teens to feel frustrated or upset about losing social media access. Some may show mood swings, disrupted sleep, or withdrawal from family life. Approach conversations with patience and empathy, allowing them space to share openly. If you notice ongoing struggles, consider seeking professional help.

Seeking Professional Support

If you’re worried about your teen’s wellbeing, visiting a GP is a great first step. You can also explore counselling or therapy. Encourage your teen to prepare for appointments by writing down what they’ve been feeling or experiencing to help them communicate clearly with a professional.

For more information and resources, visit ReachOut.com or contact your school’s wellbeing support team.

SchoolTV - Embracing Change & New Beginnings

Change is a natural part of growing up. Whether it's the start of a new school year, moving between year levels, or stepping beyond the school gates for the final time, each transition brings a mix of emotions, presenting both opportunities and challenges. These shifts call on young people to adjust to new routines, navigate unfamiliar environments and develop emotional flexibility. While some may embrace these changes, others may find the disruption unsettling and struggle with the loss of predictability.

Research shows that periods of transition are often linked to heightened anxiety, reduced academic engagement and changes in peer relationships. For families, these periods can also bring added stress. Recognising the emotional and psychological impact of change helps us respond more effectively and supportively.

While change can feel daunting, it also offers valuable opportunities for young people to learn and grow. By normalising uncertainty and encouraging open conversations, we help young people face new beginnings with curiosity rather than fear. When children are surrounded by guidance, encouragement and consistent structure, they're far better equipped to manage life's transitions with confidence and resilience.

Stage 3 Showcase - Charli’s Journey

On Wednesday, our Stage 3 students presented two excellent performances of Charli’s Journey in Ngahriyah. Both the matinee and evening shows played to full audiences, and it was wonderful to see how proud our students were as they took the stage.

A special thank you to our Director, Leona Konik, and Assistant Director, Kim Shepard, for their leadership and creative direction. Thank you also to all staff and student helpers who supported the production, your work behind the scenes helped create a smooth and successful Showcase. We are also grateful to our families for their strong attendance and encouragement, and to FOTA for providing pre-show refreshments.

Congratulations to everyone involved on a memorable Stage 3 Showcase.

Preparing for Year 7 in 2026

Today we welcomed our current Year 6 students, along with new students joining Lindisfarne in 2026, for our Year 7 Orientation Day. Thank you to our Year 7 Coordinators, Catherine Johnson-Dyson and Karissa Wortmann, and to our Acting Dean of Students, Mr Sam Dick, for designing such a comprehensive and engaging program. It was a successful and enjoyable day, and we look forward to supporting both our continuing and new students as they begin Year 7 in 2026.

Preparing for Year 7

In class, we have been working closely with students to support a smooth and confident transition into Year 7. Our Year 6 cohort has been engaged in explicit lessons designed to build the independence and organisation required for high school. This has included:

  • Using a keyboard: Students have been practising regular typing skills to build speed and accuracy, ensuring they are ready for the increased use of laptops next year.

  • Writing an email: We have focused on how to structure a clear, polite and purposeful email, including subject lines, greetings and tone.

  • Using a combination lock: Students have been given the opportunity to practise opening and resetting locks so they feel comfortable managing their lockers independently.

  • Being prepared for each lesson: We have been reinforcing routines around bringing the correct books, equipment and resources to every class, helping students develop strong habits that will support their learning in Year 7.

These skills will help set students up for success as they enter Year 7, and we have been impressed by their engagement and willingness to learn.

Stage 3 Showcase

What a spectacle we had on Wednesday night!

A huge congratulations to all the Stage 3 children who danced, sang, remembered their lines, participated, and had loads of fun. We love making lifetime memories here at Lindisfarne, and the joy and talent on display were truly inspiring.

We must also congratulate our Stage 3 teachers who dedicated months to supporting your child and bringing together this incredible celebration of learning.

This event could not have happened without our amazing team, led by the Performing Arts. A huge congratulations to Director Leona Konik and Assistant Director Kim Shepherd . Thank you for your vision and hard work!

Year 12 Formal

Last Saturday night, our Year 12 students celebrated the end of their 13-year educational journey at the Year 12 Formal, held at Movieworld, a first-time venue for the School. It was a night for students to come together with their parents and staff, sharing laughter and dancing as they marked this huge milestone.

The venue was a hit, offering fun, excitement, and plenty of photo opportunities. Even a significant electrical storm could not dampen spirits, with some guests braving the rain in ponchos, turning it into part of the adventure. The energy and joy of the evening were infectious, a perfect reflection of the Year 12 cohort’s spirit.

The real thrill came at the end of the night when guests got to ride the Batwing Spaceshot. Screams, laughter, and a few brave poses for photos made it an unforgettable finale.

It was a night full of fun, celebration, and togetherness, a perfect send-off for our Class of 2025. Congratulations to all our Year 12s, who leave behind a legacy of friendship, achievement, and school spirit, ready to take on the next chapter of their lives.

Year 12 Geography Excursion

On Wednesday, 12 November, Year 12 Geography students had the exciting opportunity to go on a local geography excursion as part of their first HSC unit studying 'Global Sustainability'; as part of which they are focusing on the sustainability of the global sugarcane industry. Luckily for us, our local area along the Tweed River is home to one of only 3 cane farming regions in NSW. Students visited the Hawken family farm, where owner Robert explained the biophysical factors involved in growing the cane, alongside the harvesting and regeneration processes. His first-hand experiences and knowledge of all things cane were apparent, giving students a valuable perspective into the industry locally. Robert spoke about the effect of flooding, unseasonably hot and dry weather patterns and the future of the industry. Once we watched the harvesters in action, we travelled over to Condong Sugar Mill for a highly informative presentation from Vivien, the Communications Manager. Vivien and her colleague, a Chemical Engineer, were able to discuss the sustainability of the industry and the viability of cane farming into the future. The trip was rounded off with a tour of the Sunshine Sugar packing warehouse, where students were able to see the finished sugar product being packaged up into salable bags for distribution across the country to confectioners and Woolworths stores.

Thanks are extended to Geography Teacher Nick Cleary and the Gap Assistants for their help on the day.

Futsal U14 Girls - Australasian Champion of Champions

UPDATE - from last week's article. Our girls made the semi-final at the Australasian Champion of Champions. It was a quality shootout versus the undefeated Lisarow State High School team from Gosford.

This game was likely the true grand final in the U14 girls division, with the two best teams going at each other.

Our girls were terrific against a very physical Lisarow, losing 1:2 in the end, with Lindisfarne paying the price of not hammering home two or three clear chances in front of goal.

Lisarow went on to win the grand final, 3 - 0.

Wiburd Shield – Lindisfarne vs Emmanuel Anglican School

Our younger Lindisfarne cricketers (Years 7–9) played their Wiburd Shield match on Monday against Emmanuel Anglican School. The game was held in Ballina under less-than-ideal conditions, with light drizzle persisting for most of the morning. As a result, the match was reduced to a T20 fixture.

Batting first in tricky conditions, Lindisfarne struggled to form partnerships and lost wickets regularly to some very disciplined bowling. Theo Nikolich showed good resistance with positive intent and top-scored with 15. Lindisfarne were eventually dismissed for 55 in the 18th over.

Our bowlers were hampered by wet run-ups and a slippery wicket due to the constant rain, but still managed to apply early pressure. Ben Dickens claimed a wicket thanks to a sharp catch from Harper Richards. This was quickly followed by a brilliant run out from Theo Nikolich, who picked up the ball cleanly and fired in an accurate throw to Noah Griffiths, who whipped off the bails — leaving Emmanuel at 2/6.

After several more rain interruptions, the ball and wicket became incredibly slippery, making bowling increasingly difficult. Emmanuel capitalised on the conditions and reached the required total in the 12th over.

It wasn’t the result we were hoping for, but the boys showed great effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship — taking away some valuable learnings from a challenging but enjoyable game.

2025 Northern NSW Anglican Schools Cup

Our annual pilgrimage to Coffs Harbour for this unique multisport event. We nominated teams to play in Chess, mixed Volleyball, six-a-side Football and Golf.

Volleyball

Two of our school’s volleyball teams recently competed in the Schools Volleyball Cup mixed competition, showcasing outstanding teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion throughout the event. Both teams represented our school with pride and enthusiasm. One team advanced to the semifinals, narrowly missing a spot in the grand final after a close and hard-fought match. The other team played exceptionally well, demonstrating great skill and collaboration in every game. Congratulations to all players on a fantastic effort and for embodying the true spirit of our school!

Mrs McLeish

Chess

A competitive day at the Anglican Schools Cup in Coffs Harbour saw Xavier, Ashton, Zhyan and Isaiah all perform strongly. Isaiah and Zhyan secured a few impressive wins, showcasing their growth and confidence on the board. The competition was intense, with some opponents being nationally ranked players. Xavier faced some of the toughest matchups of the day and came agonisingly close to several standout victories. The improvement from last year’s results was particularly impressive, reflecting the students’ developing skills and growing experience. Overall, it was a fantastic effort from the whole team in a challenging and high-level tournament.

Mr Temperley

Golf

A fantastic day of golf was had at Sawtell Golf Club, where Archie Moore and Charlie Paul had a great day. This was a new course for them both, and they performed very well. The weather was very hot, and it was a long day of walking, but both golfers did incredibly well.

Archie won closest to the pin on a par 3 and was successful with his birdie putt, which was reason for celebration.

Charlie had a great back nine, which elevated him up the field to win the Senior Boys once handicaps were allowed.

Congratulations to both boys for representing the school so well.

Mr Dunn

Football

The year 9/10 boys were the class act of the day, winning all 6 games by an aggregate score line of 33-5. All 9 players scored at least a pair of goals with the incomparable Evan Williams leading the charge with 8. A fantastic effort!!!

Coach Cadman

The year 7/8 boys had a tough day out. They unfortunately lost the first three games against some fantastic teams, but never gave up. After the lunch break, they were fired up and ready to win. In which they won and drew their last two games to take third place in the competition. A great day of football and excellent sportsmanship by all!

Coach Saunders

Girls

Our 9/10 girls played some very technical football, a high-possession style of game in the intense heat. An early injury to Charli Wiegand saw her reluctantly visiting Coffs Harbour hospital, getting X-rays. Young gun Harper Jasmin played big minutes in Charli’s absence, directing play throughout central midfield, with players like Asher Poole and Emily Link having a day out, with double-figure goal tallies. The girls also comprehensively beat BDC twice, who have a red-hot team and a Junior Matilda in their ranks, but they really struggled to get much possession, with our girls taking control.

Our girls were undefeated and a class above the rest.

Delegates will join students from across the globe, including schools from Canada, the USA, India, South America, and Europe, making this a truly international experience.
The cost of the conference is $1,700, covering travel, accommodation, activities, and most meals.

Throughout the week, students will deepen their understanding of democratic principles by visiting the iconic Eureka Flag and exploring the story of the Eureka Rebellion, an event that significantly shaped Australia’s political landscape and commitment to equality. Delegates will also visit Sovereign Hill, the immersive 1850s gold rush living museum that brings Australia’s social and political history vividly to life.

A full-day excursion to Melbourne will see students travel by train into the city and take part in an engaging urban quest. Working in Baraza groups, they will explore key democratic landmarks and institutions. Delegates will also participate in an interactive United Nations simulation, collaborating in ‘country’ teams to propose solutions to contemporary global issues.

An Adventure Day adds an energetic and outdoor dimension to the programme, with activities such as ziplining, orienteering, archery, and team-building challenges.

The conference will conclude on Sunday, 12 March, with final Baraza reflections and a mid-morning closing ceremony.

Students in Year 9 or 10 (2026) who are eager to develop leadership skills, broaden their global perspective, and engage in an unforgettable international learning experience are encouraged to email Mr Lush (mlush@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au) for further details.

The Annual Christmas Giving Tree 2025

It is that time of year when we open our hearts and our wallets to give to those less fortunate than ourselves. Our worthy recipients this year will be “The Tweed Women's Refuge” and “KIN - Kids in Need”.

Their donations of choice are gift cards, for example - Woolworths, K Mart, Lowes (for school uniforms), Big W, Coles, Myer, Smiggles, etc. Cash donations are acceptable, and this will be used to purchase gift cards. There is also an EFTPOS option @ your Library.

There is a Giving Wall in the Library where students write their name on a Christmas Bauble after donating. Let's fill the wall and bring smiles to the faces of our little people in dire situations.

Yours in the spirit of giving.
