2026 Term 1 Week 6 6 Mar 2026
Upcoming Events
From the Principal
Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
It has been a positive week across our School community, with a range of activities and engagements taking place that highlight the breadth of learning and community life at Lindisfarne.
On Monday morning, we were delighted to welcome representatives from Aoyama Gakuin University in Japan to our campus. Lindisfarne greatly values opportunities to engage with international educational partners, and it was a pleasure to share our School with them and showcase the learning environment, innovation, and spirit that make Lindisfarne such a special place.
On Tuesday, our Senior School gathered to recognise International Women’s Day during assembly. It was a thoughtful and inspiring occasion to acknowledge the contributions, leadership, and achievements of women both within our community and across the wider world. Moments such as these encourage reflection and reinforce the values of respect, opportunity, and inclusion that we strive to cultivate in our students each day.
Throughout the week, we also held Parent–Teacher Interviews across the Mahers Lane campus. These evenings are an important part of the partnership between home and school, providing valuable opportunities for parents and teachers to connect, discuss student progress, and support each young person’s learning journey. It was wonderful to see so many families engaging in these conversations.
On Thursday morning, we held our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Morning Tea for the year. These gatherings play an important role in continuing the conversations and actions that support reconciliation, as we deepen our understanding of First Nations culture and strengthen our commitment to walking this path together as a community.
Later that afternoon, I travelled to Canberra, where I spent the day attending the Round Square Australasia and East Asia Forum at Radford College as a recently elected member of the Round Square Board of Trustees.
These forums bring together educators from across the Round Square network to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore new opportunities that enrich the global learning experiences available to our students.
A reminder that our School Musical is fast approaching. A tremendous amount of work and enthusiasm has gone into preparing this production, and it promises to be a wonderful showcase of our students' and staff's creativity and talent. If you have not yet secured your tickets, there is still time, and I encourage you to come along and support what will no doubt be a fantastic production.
Finally, this week I shared with staff two staffing changes that will occur later this year. Mr Peter Wilson from our Mahers Lane Campus will return to Brisbane to be closer to his family. Peter has made significant contributions to our school, most notably in the Science Faculty, Rugby Program and has made a significant positive impact on student engagement and culture since joining our School.
Our much-loved Director of Early Learning, Jo Hetherington, has advised me that she will retire at the end of the 2026 School year after over 18 years of outstanding service to the School. Jo’s impact at the school has been profound, and we will appropriately celebrate her incredible contribution to educating our youngest learners later in the school year.
Wishing you all a safe and restful weekend.
Warm regards,
Stuart Marquardt

Dear Members of the Lindisfarne School Community,
It has been a joy to see our students learning, growing, and making a positive contribution to our local community. During the Godly Play sessions with our Year 3 and 4 students, we reflected on the story of the Good Samaritan. The students were encouraged and challenged to put compassion into action, helping to make our school and homes kinder, more loving, and more caring places.

Global Peace Begins with Me
Earlier this week we woke to the troubling news of escalating conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. In times like these it is easy to feel helpless, yet each of us can contribute to global peace by first tending the peace within our own hearts and sharing that peace with others.
Jesus reminds us: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” (John 14:27)
The Dutch writer Etty Hillesum once reflected:
“All disaster stems from us. Why is there a war? Perhaps because now and then I might be inclined to snap at my neighbour. Because I and my neighbour and everyone else do not have enough love. Yet we could fight war with all its excrescences by releasing, each day, the love that is shackled inside us, and giving it a chance to live.”
Mother Teresa reminds us that “peace begins with a smile.”
Kofi Annan observed that “in war, we are all losers.”
And Pope Francis had repeatedly said that “war is always a defeat.”
Please continue to pray for peace in the Middle East and throughout our troubled world. May the Prince of Peace grant us peace today and peace at all times.
The Meaning of Lent
Let us use this Lenten season to deepen our friendship with Jesus. May the Holy Spirit help us to love God wholeheartedly, to accept ourselves as God’s beloved children, and to love others with Christ’s compassion.
A simple way to reflect on the meaning of Lent is through the letters of the word itself.
L – Lengthening of Days
The word Lent comes from the Old English word lencten, meaning “lengthening,” referring to the lengthening days of spring in the northern hemisphere. Over time, it became associated with the season of preparation for Easter. In the Christian tradition this forty-day period (Quadragesima) prepares us to celebrate the Paschal Mystery—the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. Lent can therefore be seen as a spiritual spring, when through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving we grow and mature in our Christian life.
E – Encounter with Jesus
Christianity is not merely a set of ideas or moral principles; it is a living relationship with Jesus Christ. Lent is therefore a time of grace and renewal—a time to rediscover and deepen our encounter with Him and to renew our baptismal calling as children of God. As Scripture reminds us: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son…” (John 3:16).
N – No to Sin
In the wilderness Jesus resisted the temptations of power and selfish pleasure (Matthew 4:1–11). In the same way, Lent invites us to confront the temptations in our own lives. Strengthened by prayer, fasting, and acts of charity, we are called to say no to sin and selfishness, and yes to love.
T – Turn to God with All Our Hearts
The prophet Joel calls us to “return to the Lord with all your heart” (Joel 2:12). Lent invites us to turn back to God wholeheartedly through repentance and conversion of life. As Billy Graham once said, “Being a Christian is more than an instantaneous conversion—it is a daily process of growing to be more like Christ.”
May this Lenten season draw us ever closer to Christ and help us become instruments of His peace in our world.
Finally, a happy Ramadan Mubarak (Blessed Ramadan!) to the Islamic members of our community during this holy month of Ramadan.
God bless you and your families.
In Christ.

Lindisfarne Buses
The Lindisfarne buses provide a service for students registered to travel to and from the closest bus stop to the residential address of the family. The Lindisfarne Bus service does not have the capacity to meet requests such as transport for students to swap buses for travel to other locations for sport, work, social or other reasons.
Should your child need to attend such an activity we advise you to make alternative arrangements like carpooling to transport your child to their event.
Your understanding in this matter is appreciated.

Camaraderie Curiosity Authenticity - Our Year 12 Values
As part of the Year 12 journey at Lindisfarne, it is tradition for each graduating class to reflect on the trademarks that will guide them through their final year. This integral rite of passage foregrounds our goals in how we intend to lead as we approach the end of our schooling. After a vote amongst our cohort, three values emerged as most resonant for us: camaraderie, curiosity, and authenticity.
Camaraderie lies at the heart of our cohort. Year 12 is inevitably filled with both challenge and growth, and it is with the guidance of this value and each other's support that we intend to make these milestones meaningful. We hope to embody this by both celebrating each other's successes and standing together during those difficult moments that will test us during our HSC journey.
Curiosity will drive the way we approach learning and the extraordinary opportunities presented to us at Lindisfarne. This value encourages us to stay inquisitive, not just when working towards academic results, but also by remaining open to experiences and conversations that both challenge and inspire us.
Authenticity reminds us to stay true to ourselves throughout the terms ahead. In a time likely clouded by expectations and pressure, this value encourages us to continue embracing our individuality and passions. By leading with integrity, we hope to create a culture that is cohesive and genuine, setting the example for senior cohorts to come.

International Women’s Day
#BalanceTheScales
At the Junior School, we are committed to nurturing students as informed and compassionate global citizens through engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Investigating global issues, such as access to education, plays an important role in this, supporting students to build empathy, awareness, and a deeper understanding of the world beyond their own community.
In recognition of International Women’s Day, our Year 4 students have been examining the challenges many girls across the world face in accessing education. As part of their learning, students designed thoughtful and informative posters inspired by this year’s theme, #balancethescales, emphasising the importance of fairness and equal opportunity for all.
Students were genuinely surprised to learn that:
Around 130 million girls worldwide do not attend school.
In many countries, boys’ education is prioritised over girls’.
Of the people around the world who cannot read or write, two-thirds are female.
There are countries where over 70% of the children do not attend school

These statistics prompted rich discussion about fairness, opportunity, and the power of education. Students recognised that education is not only about learning new skills, but also about giving girls greater opportunities for their future, helping to keep them safe, and empowering them to make choices about their lives.
The completed posters will be displayed throughout the Junior School in the lead up to Harmony Week, encouraging our community to think beyond our own experiences and recognise the realities faced by girls in other parts of the world.

Bush Preschool Adventures
Our Bush Preschool journey has had a wonderful start, with the children completing their first four training sessions before heading out on their very first off-site adventure to Booningbah – Fingal Headland.
During our training sessions in the Paperbark Forest, the focus was on building confidence, routines and safety awareness for learning in outdoor environments. The children practised establishing boundaries using visual markers, responding to recall signals and learning important safety procedures including snake, dog and stranger awareness. They also developed skills in road safety and practised travelling on the bus with our driver, Mr Gabb, learning how to board safely, wear seatbelts and follow bus routines.
Alongside this, the children enjoyed many hands-on bush experiences including exploring with discovery tools, building with sticks, creating insects from natural materials, swinging in hammocks, engaging in sensory mud kitchen play and recording their experiences in their nature journals. The sessions also helped build independence, teamwork and confidence in a nature based setting.

Our first off-site adventure was an exciting milestone. The children travelled safely by bus and set up base camp at Fingal before heading out on a beach walk. The children explored the beach environment, noticing items washed ashore by the swell such as shells, seaweed, blue bottles, a sea star and tiny mollusks, as well as playing in the sensory rich sand.

We are incredibly proud of how well the children embraced their training and demonstrated responsibility, curiosity and care for the natural world.

Afternoon Arrangements and Early Collections
From time to time, we receive phone calls during the final part of the school day requesting that messages be passed on to students regarding afternoon arrangements. While we understand that occasional last-minute changes do occur, we have noticed an increase in calls after 3.00 pm asking staff to remind students about where they need to go after school or changes to pick-up plans.
Where possible, we encourage families to discuss afternoon arrangements with their children before the school day begins. This helps students develop independence and ensures that the end of the school day runs smoothly for everyone.
We have also seen an increase in requests for students to be sent quickly to the front office for early collection, sometimes with only a few minutes’ notice. While we will always do our best to assist when circumstances require it, providing a little advance notice where possible is greatly appreciated and helps minimise disruption to classes and end-of-day routines.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep the end of the school day calm and well organised for students and staff alike.
Stage 3 Parent Teacher Interviews
Stage 3 Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on Monday, 9 March, in the Mahers Lane Chapel, from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
These meetings are a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to connect with teachers and talk about how students are progressing in their learning. We encourage students to attend alongside their parents or carers so they can listen to the feedback from their teachers, celebrate their successes and think about the goals they are working towards this term.
Students attending the interviews are asked to wear their full school uniform, presented to the same standard as on a normal school day.
We look forward to welcoming our Stage 3 families on Monday evening.
Stage 4 and 5 Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to the many families who attended the Stage 4 and 5 Parent Teacher Interviews held this week. It was a very positive evening, and we appreciate the time parents and carers took to meet with teachers and discuss their child’s learning and progress.
A reminder that a second opportunity for interviews will be held next Wednesday, 11 March, from 4.00 pm - 8.00 pm in Ngahriyah. We strongly encourage students to attend these meetings alongside their parents or carers. Being present allows students to hear feedback directly from their teachers, reflect on their progress and take an active role in setting goals for the term ahead.
Students attending interviews are required to wear their full school uniform, with the same standard expected during the school day. This includes shirts tucked in, correct school shoes and hair tied back where required.
We look forward to welcoming families again next Wednesday.
NAPLAN - Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
NAPLAN testing will begin next Wednesday, 11 March, and will take place across the following fortnight for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
NAPLAN is one of the ways schools gather information about how students are developing in literacy and numeracy. While the tests provide useful insights, it is important to remember that they are just one snapshot of a student’s learning and do not define their overall abilities or progress.
During the testing period, we encourage students to approach the assessments calmly and to simply do their best. A good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast and arriving at school on time will help students feel settled and ready for the day.
Families can support their children by reminding them that NAPLAN is simply another opportunity to show what they know. Students are encouraged to approach the tests calmly and to give each task their best effort.

From the Head of Senior School
This week’s Senior School Assembly was a powerful and thoughtful celebration of International Women’s Day, led by School Captain Phoebe Robins, Vice Captain Kimiyo Tango, Communications Prefect Tessa Ford, and Arts Prefect Bethani Broad. The assembly reflected the leadership and intellectual depth of the young women in the Senior School.
This year’s global theme, “Balance the Scales,” invites us to reflect on the ongoing work required to achieve gender equality. Phoebe, Kimiyo and Tessa guided the assembly with maturity and purpose, encouraging the audience to consider how inequality continues to shape workplaces, institutions and everyday life, and how meaningful change can occur when individuals challenge injustice and advocate for fairness.
A highlight of the assembly was a panel conversation featuring three remarkable women who shared their professional experiences and insights. Mrs Rikki Hunter, English teacher at Lindisfarne and former journalist, spoke about the importance of education in shaping respectful attitudes and challenging harmful cultural norms. Angela Davies, founder of Mind Your Grit, reflected on the complex relationship between performance, wellbeing and gender expectations in the workplace. Phelicia Simpson, from the Tweed Women’s Refuge, provided powerful insight into the realities faced by women experiencing domestic violence and the vital role of community support in restoring safety and dignity.

Through thoughtful questions, our student leaders explored topics including workplace equity, mental health, gender bias in institutions, and the importance of building cultures where women feel safe, heard and supported. The discussion demonstrated both the seriousness with which our students approach global issues and their willingness to engage in conversations that can lead to positive change.
The assembly concluded with a stunning musical performance by Bethani Broad, whose rendition of Alicia Keys’ Superwoman provided a fitting tribute to the resilience and strength of women everywhere. She was supported by an all-female ensemble of musicians from Years 9 to 12, whose talent created a powerful and uplifting finale to the morning.

I extend my sincere thanks to our guest panellists for their generosity in sharing their time and perspectives with our students. Most importantly, we congratulate Phoebe, Kimiyo, Tessa and Bethani for leading an assembly that was courageous and inspiring. Their leadership is testimony to the fierce, compassionate and socially aware young women we are proud to nurture at Lindisfarne.
I now look forward to hearing from our Year 12 male leaders when they host an assembly in June to mark International Men’s Health Week, continuing these important conversations about wellbeing, respect and responsibility.

Careers and VET Update
Bond University Updates
Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Beyond High School Professional Development Conference hosted by Bond University. The event brought together careers advisors from across the region to hear from keynote speaker Clifton Bingham, as well as a range of Bond University staff representatives and student alumni.
A highlight of the day was Clifton Bingham’s keynote presentation, which provided valuable insights into Australia’s changing labour market and the skills that will be most important for future employment.
One of the key messages was the importance of continuing education and training after school, whether through university or vocational education and training (VET). As the labour market becomes increasingly specialised and highly skilled, gaining further qualifications plays a critical role in improving employment opportunities and long-term career outcomes.
Data presented during the keynote reinforced this point. Among Australians aged 15–74, around 59% of those holding a university or VET qualification are employed in full-time work, compared with approximately 33% of those whose highest level of education is high school. The data also showed that when young people complete a Certificate III qualification or higher, unemployment rates among 25–34 year olds drop significantly. These insights highlight the value of continuing education beyond school and the importance of students thinking carefully about the pathways that will best support their future goals.
Equally important was the emphasis placed on employability skills. Research shared during the keynote highlighted that 75% of employers place at least as much emphasis - if not more - on personal qualities than technical skills when hiring graduates. Skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, adaptability and initiative are increasingly recognised as essential in the modern workplace.
These insights reinforce why, at Lindisfarne, we place such strong emphasis not only on academic achievement, but also on the many opportunities available to students beyond the classroom. Developing the qualities employers value - such as reliability, communication, teamwork, initiative and resilience - happens through everyday experiences at school.
Whether it is learning to be organised and accountable - ensuring students are in House Tutor by 8:20am and arriving to all classes on time - working alongside students from a range of year levels through House Tutor and House activities, committing to co-curricular programs, taking on leadership opportunities, or developing resilience by pushing through challenges, these experiences all play an important role in building the skills that support success beyond school.
It is why we continually encourage students to make the most of the opportunities available to them at Lindisfarne, as these experiences help shape the personal qualities that employers increasingly value alongside formal qualifications.
The day also provided updates on several of Bond’s program offerings. Within the Law Faculty, for example, students can now explore specialised areas such as space law and advocacy as part of the Bond Law degree, reflecting the university’s focus on preparing graduates for emerging and highly specialised fields. Within the Business Faculty, new units exploring Enterprise Artificial Intelligence are being introduced, recognising the growing importance of AI capability across industries and business leadership.
These developments highlight how universities are continuing to adapt their programs to reflect emerging industries and skills, ensuring students are well prepared for the evolving world of work.

RECENT GAMES
KINGS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE INTERSCHOOL FIXTURE
Our squads had their first match of the season against Kings’ Christian College on Friday 27 February at Casuarina Rugby Club. Kings’ are one of the stronger rugby union schools on the Gold Coast and have a history of producing good school rugby teams across the age grades. All games were tightly contested in good spirit and it was a wonderful afternoon at Casuarina to kick off our 2026 rugby season.
1st XV 7-17
A physical and hard-fought contest unfolded between Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar and Kings College, with Kings claiming a 17–7 victory in a match defined by momentum swings and breakdown battles.
First Half – Kings Take Control: The opening half was tough and uncompromising, with both sides committing heavily in contact. Kings held the edge early, applying pressure through territory and capitalising on Lindisfarne’s inaccuracies. Lindisfarne’s kicking game lacked precision in the first half, which repeatedly handed Kings counter-attack opportunities. Those transition moments allowed Kings to build pressure and gain field position. Once inside the red zone, Kings were clinical — and when they got close to the try line, they proved difficult to contain. Their forward carries were direct and physical, and they converted pressure into points to take control of the scoreboard.
Second Half – Lindisfarne Respond: The second half saw a clear shift in momentum. Lindisfarne lifted their intensity and cohesion, with Zane Weston at inside centre (12) leading from the front. His direct running, organisation, and defensive presence set the tone for a much-improved performance. At the breakdown, Caleb Doevendans and Guy Henry were outstanding. Their strong jackal turnovers repeatedly punished Kings for arriving late to rucks, slowing Kings’ momentum and creating valuable possession for Lindisfarne. The increased dominance at the contact area gave Lindisfarne better field position and confidence. The pressure paid off with a close-range try, earned through sustained forward effort and improved discipline. Lindisfarne looked the stronger side throughout the second half and pushed hard to close the gap. A pivotal moment came when the outside backs produced a beautiful, slightly fortunate line break that opened the field. With the try line in sight, Lindisfarne were unlucky to spill the ball wide. Had that opportunity been finished, the match would have set up a very tight and tense finish.
Summary: While Kings College were sharper in the first half and took their chances effectively, Lindisfarne showed resilience and growth after the break. Their second-half performance demonstrated stronger breakdown work, improved structure, and greater physicality.
Player of the Day: Zane Weston (12) – A commanding second-half performance, leading both defensively and in attack, and setting the standard for the team’s resurgence.

U16
Game recap and Score (MH/BK)
The Lindisfarne U16 Lions opened their season in style on Friday 27 March, securing a historic pre-season victory over rivals Kings College.
Captain Matty Dunn led from the front with an outstanding performance, setting the tone through relentless kick-chase efforts, ferocious and well-timed defence, and determined carries with strong leg drive. Dunn also showcased his skill and awareness with silky touches that created opportunities for teammates throughout the match.
The loose forward trio of Oscar Moller, Archer Barr and Austin Lowes were dominant around the park, while Senner Wetherall proved invaluable with key turnovers and a strong presence in the lineout. Lou Robins showed impressive development with accurate lineout throwing and some powerful carries, while Luke Jones earned praise for his improved body height and effectiveness in the tackle area.
New addition Mason Fraser demonstrated his versatility with clever tactical kicking and slick handling, while Oli Wilson and Campbell Patterson stepped up to the U16 level with high energy, strong line speed in defence and excellent work at the breakdown.
The decisive moment came through Max Esgate, who sparked the second half with a superb sideline conversion before steering the team up the field with smart game management. After a brilliant smother tackle and turnover, Esgate crossed for the game-winning try.
Fittingly, the try was converted by Player of the Day and captain Matty Dunn, sealing a memorable victory for the Lions.
U14
Game recap and Score (RB)
U13
It was a physical and revealing encounter at the weekend as Lindisfarne took on a formidable King’s Christian College U13 side. While the scoreboard favored the opposition, the match served as a vital testing ground for a Lindisfarne squad largely comprised of U12 players vying for a spot on the upcoming holiday tour to Armidale.
From the opening whistle, it was clear this would be a bruising contest. The King’s side brought significant size and polish, ultimately running out 30-0 winners. However, the scoreline doesn't tell the full story of the grit displayed by the younger Lindisfarne contingent. Despite the relentless pressure, several individuals rose to the challenge of playing up an age grade, showing that this team will come together nicely with more time on the paddock.
The defensive effort was spearheaded by Buddy Robin, who put in a massive shift; his fearless and aggressive approach in both attack and defense set a physical standard for his teammates to follow. This grit was complemented by the composure of Jack Preston, who led the backline with maturity, ensuring the team remained organized under fire. Meanwhile, Jackson Medford provided the much-needed "go-forward" for Lindisfarne, offering great carries into the heart of the King's defense and remaining a reliable pillar in the defensive line throughout the match.
While the result was tough, the experience gained against such high-quality opposition is invaluable. As these players continue to build chemistry, the signs are incredibly promising for the squad heading into the Armidale tour

Lindisfarne Business Network Launch
A Wonderful Evening of Connection

Last Friday evening marked the successful launch of the 2026 Lindisfarne Business Network and the program of events. The night brought together partners and supporters of the school, local business owners, and members of the wider community for an inspiring evening of connection and collaboration.
It was fantastic to see so many people come together to celebrate the launch and to strengthen the relationships that support both our local business community and the school. The evening provided a relaxed and welcoming environment for guests to meet, share ideas, and explore ways to work together in the future.
Principal Marquardt welcomed guests and spoke about the importance of the Business Network to the school. We also heard from Peter Benney, Senior Relationship Manager at Westpac, one of the school’s generous partners. Peter spoke about the importance of strong community relationships and the role that local networks play in supporting businesses and organisations to grow and thrive.

The atmosphere throughout the evening reflected the strong sense of community that exists around Lindisfarne. It was wonderful to connect with so many partners and supporters of the school, alongside local businesses and community members who share a passion for collaboration and supporting one another.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the launch such a positive and memorable occasion. We look forward to seeing the Lindisfarne Business Network continue to grow and to welcoming even more members to future events.
