2026 Term 2 Week 1 24 Apr 2026
Upcoming Events
From the Principal
Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust the Easter break provided time for rest, reflection, and renewal, and that our students have returned with renewed energy and readiness for the term ahead.
At Lindisfarne, we often speak about education extending beyond the classroom, about shaping character, building resilience, and providing experiences that prepare young people for life. The closing weeks of Term 1 were a powerful reflection of this in action.
Our students were immersed in a remarkable breadth of opportunities, from the excellence of our School Musical ‘Beauty and the Beast’, Round Square trip to Ballarat, Germinate Records collaboration with fellow Apple Distinguished School, Lakefield College School Canada, our Rugby teams representing our school at the Ballymore Cup and the Armidale Carnival, and the Australian Rowing Championships. Each of these experiences represents more than participation; they are moments where confidence is built, friendships are strengthened, and students discover more about themselves and their potential. None of this would be possible without the extraordinary commitment of our staff, and I extend my sincere gratitude for the time, care, and energy they invest in our students.
As a community, we are also reminded that our values must guide how we treat one another, both in person and online. Following my recent communication to families regarding TikTok, I want to reaffirm that behaviour which disrespects or demeans others has no place at Lindisfarne. We continue to address this matter seriously and thoughtfully, and I ask all families to support us in reinforcing the importance of respect, responsibility, and integrity in all interactions, particularly in digital spaces. Together, we play an important role in ensuring our School remains a safe and supportive environment for all.
Over the Easter break, a number of important facilities projects progressed across both campuses. At Sunshine Avenue, the dry creek bed works funded by our P&F are well underway, alongside the installation of new custom-made Kindergarten lockers. At Mahers Lane, the Year 7 Centre continues to take shape, with the ground-floor slab now poured, while works on the Creative Industries precinct, relocateable grandstands on the top oval, and upgrades to DS1 and student facilities have progressed significantly. These developments reflect our ongoing commitment to providing environments that support learning, wellbeing, and connection.
This Saturday, we will pause as a nation to observe ANZAC Day. It is a time to reflect on the courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice of those who have served our country, and to honour the values and selflessness that continue to shape our community. For our students, it is an important reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today have been built on the sacrifices and great suffering of previous generations. I encourage families to attend a local Anzac Day service, take a moment for quiet reflection, and share with your children the meaning of commemorating this significant day.
These sentiments have been so well captured in the powerful video clip put together by Year 11 student James Letters, which honours Lance Corporal Walter Anderson of Murwillumbah. Please take a moment to watch James’ video of reflections on the 1941 Greek campaign.
Looking ahead, we are excited to celebrate our Foundation Day in Week 3 on Tuesday, 5 May at our Mahers Lane Campus, including the Official Opening of the Senior Centre and Food Technology Classrooms. Thursday, 7 May at our Junior School, Sunshine Avenue Campus. This will be a significant milestone in the life of our School, not only in the completion of facilities, but in what they represent: our continued investment in the future of learning at Lindisfarne. We warmly invite you to join us for this special occasion. Further information can be found on the invitation below. See the link HERE to register your attendance.
As we begin Term 2, we do so with a clear sense of purpose: to continue nurturing young people of character, capability, and compassion.
With a long weekend ahead, I hope you enjoy the opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
Warm regards,
Stuart Marquardt

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,
For my articles this year we are focusing on the Six Ideals of Round Square and their subcategories. In this article we will look at the Ideal of Adventure.
At its heart, adventure is about stepping out of our comfort zone and trying something new.
In this week’s Chapel Service, I based my talk on the Apostle Peter having the courage to step out of the boat, to come to Jesus, who was defying the laws of gravity, by miraculously walking across Lake Galilee.
When the disciples first saw Jesus walking on the lake they, understandably, couldn’t believe their eyes. But Jesus answered their bewilderment by saying “take courage, it is I, don’t be afraid.”
However, if we were to translate Jesus’ words more literally, it would read, “take heart, fear not, I AM is here”,
In trying to polish up Jesus’ actual response into grammatically correct English, most translations miss the gravitas of Jesus’ response, as he’s actually claiming God’s Covenant name, Yahweh, meaning, ‘IAM WHO I AM.’
So, what Jesus was saying to his disciples was, in effect, “what are you worried about? God is here!”
But when Peter challenged the hypothesis of Jesus’ gravity defying divine stroll, much to his amazement, he was able to walk on water too.
This was until he took his eyes off Jesus and became anxious about the reality of the situation that he began to sink.
Peter, with no time to lose, prayed the most important prayer request anyone could ever pray to Jesus, “Lord, save me!”
We read that, ‘immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him, saying, “you of little faith, why did you doubt?”’ Two things are significant here:
Firstly, the opposite to fear is often considered to be courage, but from a Christian perspective, it’s actually faith that is the opposite to fear - a faith that leads to courage.
Secondly, Jesus’ immediate action of saving Peter, is exactly why he came. In fact, Jesus’ name, literally for the Hebrew, Yahshua (Joshua in English), means ‘Yahweh saves.’ And this is exactly what Peter experienced, first hand.
There is so much anxiety and fear in our world today, especially among our young people, due to a myriad of reasons - the impact of social media, cost of living, political polarisations, natural disasters, global conflicts, and also the micro stressors they experience every day.
The Christian answer to this, is not just to pluck up the courage from anywhere, but to base it on a faith response to God, made manifest in Jesus Christ.
It is a faith response which I have sought to inhabit each and every day for more than 30 years and I can testify to the fact that it has resulted in an amazing, ongoing, adventure.
However, it needs to be said that adventure is not about being reckless but about taking calculated risks.
We now know, hat in regards to neurological development, the prefrontal cortex, which is the part of the brain responsible for assessing risk and consequence, doesn’t generally reach full maturity until around the mid to late 20s.
This is important for our young people to be aware of, and also for us as parents, caregivers and teachers to keep in mind.
We want to encourage our young people to step out of their comfort zones by taking calculated risks, not for them to take dangerous risks that may have catastrophic consequences.
Finally, adventure comes from the Latin word ‘adventurus’ which means ‘about to happen.’
It is why Christians call the period leading up to Christmas, ‘Advent’ because, celebrating the birth of Jesus is ‘about to happen!’
This sense of adventurus - ‘it’s about to happen’ - is very timely for our year 7-11 students who are to embark on the adventurous journey of camp this term in week five..
My encouragement to all campers is to take this opportunity to step out of your comfort zones by taking calculated risks and encourage your friends to join you in that adventure.
For you will never grow if you never have a go!
Blessings, Reverend Lyndon
Chaplain

Lindisfarne Buses
The Lindisfarne buses provide a service for students registered to travel to and from the closest bus stop to the residential address of the family. The Lindisfarne Bus service does not have the capacity to meet requests such as transport for students to swap buses for travel to other locations for sport, work, social or other reasons.
Should your child need to attend such an activity we advise you to make alternative arrangements like carpooling to transport your child to their event.
We write to provide a reminder regarding the scheduled departure times for our School provided bus service. To ensure all students arrive at School safely and on time each morning, it is essential that the buses depart promptly at their designated intervals.
The full schedule including all routes and times can be viewed here on our website. We ask that you please review your route and stop time, and that students arrive at the bus zone prior to the departure times listed.
If you use the Route A intercampus bus, please note that the last morning departure for this service is 8.20am. Students must be at the Chapel to meet the supervising staff member by 8.15am at the latest to allow time for roll taking and boarding.
Please note that for the safety of our students and to maintain our route schedules, drivers are unable to wait for late arrivals.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a reliable and efficient service for all families.
Also note, that with daylight savings coming to an end over Easter long weekend, Queensland residents will need to ensure they follow the scheduled departure times for Term 2.
Your understanding of these matters is appreciated.
Please direct any Lindisfarne bus inquiries to bus@lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au

Welcome back to Term 2. It has been lovely to see students return settled and ready for the term ahead. We have had a strong start, with consistent habits playing an important role in creating a calm, focused learning environment where all students feel supported and ready to learn.
A reminder that throughout Terms 2 and 3, students are required to wear their blazer and tie each day. Thank you for your support in ensuring students present themselves with pride in their formal uniform.
Lockers
We are aware that some students are having difficulty using the school-issued padlocks. If this is the case for your child, you are welcome to purchase an alternative lock and send it to school. Our priority is that students can access their lockers confidently and independently, so we are happy for them to use a lock that works best for them.
ANZAC Day - Saturday 25 April
Students are encouraged to attend a local ANZAC Day service with their families. Wearing the Lindisfarne formal uniform is a meaningful way to show respect and represent our school within the wider community. Many schools across the Tweed attend these services in full uniform, and it is always a proud moment to see our students standing alongside them.
If there is a march included in the service you attend, students are welcome to walk with the Lindisfarne staff. Please see the details below for meeting points.
Please also note that Monday is a public holiday, and school will resume on Tuesday.

Senior School
From the Head of Senior School
I hope the Easter break provided an opportunity for rest and renewal for all. It has been a pleasure to welcome students back, and already, Term 2 is shaping up to be a full and engaging period, with a wide range of events and opportunities ahead.
This weekend, we mark ANZAC Day, an important occasion in our national calendar. We look forward to strong student representation across local services and marches. Senior School students are asked to attend in formal uniform and to check in with staff at the event. We value and recognise student participation in these significant community events, and such involvement contributes to students’ co-curricular records.
Next week, students in Years 10 and 11 will take part in a workshop with youth advocate Daniel Principe. Daniel is a highly respected speaker who works extensively with young people across Australia, and his sessions are both engaging and thought-provoking.
On the evening of Thursday, 30 April, we are also hosting a ParentEd session with Daniel in the Senior Centre at Mahers Lane from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm. This session is offered at no cost, and refreshments will be available. I strongly encourage all parents and caregivers to attend.
In the Senior School, we recognise that parents are vital partners in supporting student success. When we work together with shared purpose, we create an environment that supports not only academic achievement but also the social and emotional development of our young people. This ParentEd session is designed to strengthen that partnership.
Daniel will explore the complex and often challenging digital landscape in which our young people are immersed. Drawing on current research and his extensive experience, he provides practical tools to help parents understand and engage in meaningful conversations with their children about relationships, behaviour, and the influences shaping their world. His approach is thoughtful and respectful, while also addressing the realities that young people face.
This session is particularly timely as the School continues to navigate complex issues arising from student use of social media, including behaviours that have caused harm to members of our staff. It is essential that we, as a collective, seek to understand the motivations behind such behaviour, while also maintaining clear expectations and accountability. Supporting young people to make better choices requires both insight and a shared commitment between home and school.
The ParentEd evening will provide valuable guidance in this space, equipping families with strategies to support their children and contribute to a respectful and responsible Lindisfarne culture.
Please register your attendance via this link.
We look forward to working together with you throughout the term to ensure a supportive and enriching experience for all students.

Bronze
The Bronze Practice Expedition will be incorporated as part of Year 9 camp to Emu Gully.
Students will be camping for 3 nights and in charge of cooking and preparing meals in their groups, whilst participating in a range of exciting and immersive challenges. The skills learned on this adventure will place them in good stead to attempt their Qualifying Expedition in Term 4.
Silver
Our intrepid Silver adventurers will be stepping out onto the Northern Rivers Rail Trail next Tuesday-Thursday, hiking and riding their way along the track. They will be camping along the way at Hosanna Farm. They have undertaken a number of training exercises to help them with navigation, camp craft, food preparation and team work.
Gold
Unfortunately, our Residential Project during the Easter break had to be postponed due to Cyclone Maila making landfall in Far North Queensland. The group will now be attending at the end of the Term 2 break, as they continue to prepare for their Adventurous Journeys later in the year to the Blue Mountains (Practice) and Cradle Mountain (Qualifying).
Other
It is exciting that some of our 2025 graduates will be awarded their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award by Governor Margaret Beazley at a vice-regal ceremony at Government House in Sydney. Some of our 2026 Gold students are on track to be the first Lindisfarne students to achieve the full suite of Bronze, Silver and Gold. Tahlia Rosborough-George was awarded Miss Teen Bangalow Showgirl, and went on to represent our local agricultural show at the Casino Showgirl Finals, where representatives from across the region competed for the next level title.
As part of the judging process, Tahlia spoke confidently and thoughtfully about her passion for agricultural shows and their importance in keeping younger generations engaged. She highlighted the value of participation in cattle, horse, and dog showing, as well as the strong sense of community these events create for towns.
When asked what she would do for her show if she had a million dollars, Tahlia spoke about improving existing facilities such as toilets, parking, and storage, while also preserving the heritage stables. She shared her vision of integrating new equestrian facilities alongside the original structures, something close to her heart given her love of horses.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience that helped the girls build confidence, develop public speaking skills, and form new friendships across the region.

1st XV
The 2026 Ballymore Cup 1st XV competition delivered one of the strongest fields in recent years, with 18 teams competing, including GPS schools and sides travelling from Brisbane, Rockhampton, Sydney, and Canberra. The step up in competition was clear — faster, more physical, and tactically sharper across the board. For Lindisfarne, it proved a demanding but valuable campaign that will serve as a strong foundation for the season ahead.
For all Rugby News, please expand the article.
Game 1 vs St Laurence’s College 0-15
Opening against traditional AIC powerhouse St Laurence’s, Lindisfarne started slowly and conceded early through a soft try following a penalty reversal. Field position hurt throughout the match, with Lindisfarne unable to consistently build pressure in the opposition half.
The second half, however, told a different story. Lindisfarne produced multiple line breaks and had St Laurence’s backpedalling for long periods. Despite clear momentum, they were unable to convert pressure into points and struggled to find favour with the referee at key moments. A late try to St Laurence’s pushed the score to 15–0, though it did not reflect the competitiveness of the second half.
Standouts:
Will Stovin – strong and dangerous out wide
Caleb Doevendans – relentless at the breakdown
Tucker Groves – heavily involved in the contest alongside front row partners James Green and Eddie Esgate (who was unfortunately lost to a knee injury)
Game 2 vs Marist College Canberra 0-33
A physically dominant Marist side proved too strong, applying relentless pressure at the ruck and suffocating Lindisfarne’s ability to generate quick ball. Forced into errors and under constant pressure, Lindisfarne struggled to gain any rhythm. There were also tactical challenges, with off-the-ball work from the opposition going largely unnoticed, adding to the difficulty of this game. Despite the scoreline, Caleb Doevendans again stood out, battling hard and winning turnovers to provide glimpses of opportunity. A tough outing against a superior, well-drilled side — but one full of learning.
Game 3 vs Rockhampton Grammar 3-41
Looking to respond, Lindisfarne entered the morning fixture hoping to lift — but were met by a determined Rockhampton Grammar side that controlled the game. The loss of James Green to injury early impacted our forwards, and the team struggled to find flow or front-foot ball. Defensive efforts from Chase Wilson, Caleb Doevendans, and George Morgan stood out, but sustained pressure from Rockhampton Grammar was difficult to maintain. Positives from the match were our scrum and lineout remained outstanding and there was a continued effort in defence despite scoreboard pressure. Another tough result, but one that reinforced the physical and mental standards required at this level.
Game 4 vs Matthew Flinders (Sunshine Coast) 26–14
After a challenging run, Lindisfarne found their rhythm and delivered a dominant performance in this game. The backs came alive, producing multiple line breaks, offloads, and well-constructed tries. Confidence grew as the game unfolded, with fluid attacking rugby on display. The lineout was also a standout, with Guy Henry dominant in the air, creating turnovers and providing quality ball. A well-earned win that secured a place in the Plate Final.
Standouts:
Aiden Broadhurst was sharp around the ruck and finished a well-taken try.
Tucker Groves led from the front with powerful carries.
George Morgan showcased his pace and potential out wide.
Fletcher Bruhn impressed defensively with fearless efforts.
Game 5 (Plate Final) vs St Edmund’s College 14-22
A finals-style contest that was far tighter than the scoreline suggests. Played at high intensity, both teams went back and forth, with Lindisfarne competing strongly across the park. Up front, Albert Stainlay-Werrin, Tucker Groves, and Menzie Tucker carried hard, while Kobe Frazer added impact with strong runs. At the breakdown, Guy Henry and Caleb Doevendans again made life difficult for the opposition, and the lineout was dominant — with Guy Henry stealing multiple throws. The backs showed promising structure, with Chase Wilson and Zane Weston combining well to create attacking opportunities. However, errors at crucial moments prevented Lindisfarne from converting pressure into points and taking the win.
Overall Summary
Five games across three demanding days tested the squad physically and mentally. While results didn’t always reflect performances, there were clear positives:
Set piece strength (scrum & lineout consistently strong).
Breakdown presence, led by Caleb Doevendans and Guy Henry.
Defensive resilience, particularly in scramble situations.
Growth in attacking confidence, especially in Game 4.
The tournament highlighted the level required to compete with top GPS and interstate programs — and provided invaluable experience. A challenging but highly beneficial campaign. The group showed resilience, growth, and glimpses of their potential. With lessons learned and combinations building, our Lindisfarne 1st XV are well positioned heading into the season ahead.
ARMIDALE SCHOOLS CARNIVAL
The U12 Boys recently travelled away for their carnival, with the trip marking a significant milestone for many players who were experiencing their first overnight sports tour. The group embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm and represented both themselves and Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School with pride across the two days.
The team faced a challenging start in Game 1 against a well-drilled Marist College Canberra outfit on a cold morning, going down 7–19. Despite the result, the boys showed resilience and quickly responded in Game 2, producing a strong performance built on disciplined defence and sharp attacking play to secure a convincing 12–0 win over Sunshine Coast Grammar.
Game 3 against Byron Shire Rebels highlighted the realities of tournament rugby, with the team learning valuable lessons about maintaining performance levels in short-format games, resulting in a 5–32 loss. The boys responded well in Game 4, finishing the first day strongly with an impressive 22–0 win over Toowoomba Bears.
Day two presented further challenges, with sore bodies and tough opposition. The match against Peregian Saints was particularly hard-fought. Despite having limited possession, the team defended bravely and were unfortunate to concede in the final moments, losing 0–5 following a contentious scrum decision. The final game against Coffs Harbour Crusaders was another physical contest, with the boys going down 10–19 but continuing to show determination and effort throughout.
Across the carnival, the entire squad contributed positively, demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and a willingness to learn. Special mention goes to Jack Preston for his leadership and ability to guide the team around the field. Jobe Stephens and Axel Ward consistently provided energy and spark, while Hunter Moore’s versatility added great value across multiple roles. Spencer Martin also made a strong impact, contributing effectively in both attack and defence. Storm Lucas was fantastic in defence and his speed led to some fantastic attacking plays and tries for Storm and the team.
Overall, it was a highly valuable experience for the group, both on and off the field. The boys not only developed their rugby skills but also built stronger connections as a team, setting a solid foundation for future growth.
U16 Girls 7s
The U16 Girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience the Armidale tournament offered them. Being on tour for 2 nights was an excellent team building experience both on and off the field.
On a very busy first day where the girls had 6 games, the progress made throughout the day was very pleasing. Our first game against Port Macquarie didn’t quite go to plan in what was a disappointing first match where we lost 7-10 in a game we should’ve won.
After some reflection, the girls really stood up the rest of the day, gaining two very good wins against Sunshine Coast Grammar and Inverell. We also played very well against a strong Lismore team, going down 7-14. The two top teams, Illawarra Academy of Sport and Matthew Flinders Anglican College were by far the strongest two teams at the tournament and proved a step too far for our girls but in both games they put up a great fight and made life difficult for the opposition.
Day 2 started with the girls quickly realising they were no longer close to the warm weather we are accustomed to, waking to thick fog and cold temperatures. Once the fog lifted, it was another stunning day for rugby.
The first game of the morning was against Sunshine Coast Grammar again to try and make the 3rd place play-off. The girls put in their best performance of the weekend, with a crushing 20-0 victory.
In our final match against Lismore, we played with great heart but Lismore put in a fine display taking the victory meaning a 4th place finish for our girls.
Our squad of 10 players all made fantastic contributions and for many the increased confidence and teamwork on display was pleasing to see. Sooke Paley was voted the MVP by her peers and from the coaches, for her outstanding progress, attitude and performance over the weekend, Zali Billett was our player of the tournament.

Alongside this, students should have a towel and spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.
Outside of rugby training times, students should be in the correct uniform, which includes wearing the school sport polo on Thursday in P1-2 and P5-6 and in PE lessons and not rugby training tops.

Spotlight on Isabella Arghyros
The Aussie Surf Lifesaving championships were held at North Kirra SLSC over a 5-day period from 25 to 29 March 2026. As a first year under 17, Isabella Arghyros competed in a number of heats, quarter and semi-finals ahead of finals day held on the final day of competition. She reached each one of her 4 individual finals (board, ski, swim and iron) and was a team member of the under 19 board relay team.
Isabella finished her season as Aussie champion of the u17 board, silver medalist in the u17 swim and u19 board relay, and fourth place in the u17 ironwoman.
Spotlight on Charli Wiegand
Charli represented Queensland in the Emerging Matildas competition over the holidays. Charli was named as captain of the Queensland White team. She captained the QLD White team to the grand final against some of the toughest opponents in NSW. While QLD didn’t come away with the win, Charli scored the only goal for QLD during this game while playing from Left Wing Back! A great achievement all round.

Netball Update
Congratulations to our Lindisfarne representative Netball players who competed in the two following events during the recent holidays.
The Netball Queensland Senior State Age featured 183 teams from 53 associations contesting 1,614 matches across four action-packed days. More than 2,000 players took the court, supported by over 200 coaches and 192 managers, creating an incredible atmosphere of participation and community celebration in Townsville, North Queensland.
Congratulations to our Lindisfarne coach, Ellie Cusack, with the 18s challenge Team, Lindisfarne Coaches from the Zarina Team, Lauren and Bianca Smith, and Sienna Prendergast, Nala Coach Audrey Sneesby, and Assistant Simba Coach Luca Godden.
Our Lindisfarne players were outstanding across the four days, showing grit and intensity in the North Queensland heat, with Emily Daniel, Amber Sullivan, Kayla Mupunga, Charlotte Slack-Smith, Sophie Parkes, Abi Grier, Isabelle Daniel, Sienna Rosser, Kiara Morgan, and Mackenzie Schubert representing Lindisfarne strongly. Well done, we are so proud of your State Age campaign.
The Tweed 18s Challenge Team finished in 5th position, the 16s Challenge Team finished in 7th position, and the 15s Challenge Team finished in 16th position.
Lindsifarne in the NSW Netball Academy Games
Lindsifarne Player Abi Grier, Lindsifarne Assistant Coach for the Simba Team Luca Godden, and NSW Netball Academy Head Coach, Suzanne Evans, competed in the NSW Academy games throughout the recent school holidays. Netball NSW delivered the NSW Academy Games in Tamworth with an event that brought together emerging talent aged 15-16 years to showcase the next generation of potential State players and provided a valuable development opportunity for coaches, umpires, and officials within the NSW Netball academy system.
The North Coast Academy performed at an elite level in these competitive games, and players presented themselves with talent ID scouts and development pathways programs watching performances throughout the weekend. This was a fantastic opportunity for our players and coaches' growth and development on the Netball Australia pathway.

Debating Teams
Dear Students and Families,
As we begin Term Two, I would like to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of our debating teams in Round One of the Gold Coast Debating Competition.
Our Junior A team (Elzin Abbey, Noah Galle, Calvin Barlow, Riva De Sousa Grimes, Miles Dawes-Sullivan) achieved a fantastic win on the topic “Influencers are more harm than help,” demonstrating strong teamwork and thoughtful argument.
Both Junior B teams (Amelie Borrelli, Kahlia Bosward, Ally Borrelli, and Charlotte Goodwin, Mackenzie Riddle, Evie Berryman, Chloe Manwarring) also had a very successful start to the season, each winning their first debates on the topic “Everyone should have to learn a foreign language,” held at Trinity Lutheran College. This is a wonderful achievement for their first debate of the season.
At All Saints Anglican School, our Intermediate A (LAG2 - Daisy St George, Emily Eldridge, Gracie Davies, Claire Godden, Ajay Arun) team competed on the negative side for the topic “We should criminally prosecute companies that use sweatshops.” While they were unsuccessful, they approached a challenging topic with maturity and thoughtful arguments.
At Somerset, our other Intermediate A (LAG1 - Laurie Glasson, Anouk Schlueter, Mason O’Gray, Aziah Phoenix-Coy, Lillia Abbey) team achieved a win as the affirmative side on the topic “We should criminally prosecute companies that use sweatshops”. Well done to the team on this excellent start to the season.
Our Open A team (Nicolas Leotta, Leo Lush, Tahlia D’Amici, and James Cunnah) also faced strong competition at A.B. Paterson College against Somerset and, despite a loss, showed persistence and commitment in a highly competitive round.
Finally, our Open B team, many of whom are new to debating and are being expertly coached by Communications Prefect Ben Reeve, debated the topic “Instead of being elected, members of Parliament should be randomly selected.” Although they were unsuccessful as the negative team, they should be commended for their willingness to take on a complex topic and for their growth and commitment throughout the term.
Overall, it has been a positive and productive start to the season. I am proud of the effort, resilience, and enthusiasm shown by all teams. I look forward to seeing continued development for all teams as they begin Round Two.

Alliance French Film Festival Excursion
Our French language students recently enjoyed a cultural excursion to Byron Bay for the French Film Festival, where they attended a screening of the animated featureArco. The film captivated the group with its stunning visuals and a uniquely positive environmental message. Experiencing the cinema in a different language provided a fantastic opportunity for students to immerse themselves in French outside the classroom, sharpening their listening skills in a real-world setting. To top off the day, the group stopped at Ben’s Patisserie on the return journey to indulge in delicious, authentic croissants, making for a truly "magnifique" blend of cinema, culture, and cuisine.
