Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,

As Term 3 draws to a close, we have shared a week of significant achievements and important farewells. There has been much to celebrate, making it a fitting conclusion to another rewarding term at Lindisfarne.

We began the week celebrating the tremendous success of our Lindisfarne Rowing Squad at the Queensland Schools' Rowing Championships. Congratulations to Ayla Drury, who was crowned Queensland Champion in the Year 11 Girls' Single Scull and finished second in the Open Girls' Single Scull. Our Open Girls' Quad of Zara Wyatt, Annabelle O'Grady, Ayla Drury and Maeve Swanson, coxed by Willow Veldhoven, claimed bronze, while Ayla, Maeve, Zara and Eden Jocumenson, again coxed by Willow, won gold in the Year 11 Girls' Quad. Ayla and Maeve also secured silver in the Open Girls' Double. These are outstanding results and testimony to the commitment of our students and the enormous dedication of Mrs Tara Townsend, whose countless hours of coaching and encouragement of our rowers are greatly appreciated.

On Monday we farewelled Mr John White, Lindisfarne's longest-serving staff member, after an extraordinary 44 years of service. John has been part of Lindisfarne for generations of students, families and colleagues. We had the opportunity to acknowledge him at our Junior School Assembly before gathering with staff for afternoon tea. Few people have the privilege of giving more than four decades of their professional life to one community. We thank John for his remarkable contribution, his loyalty and the countless lives he has influenced during his time at Lindisfarne. His legacy will remain part of the School for many years to come.

Our sporting celebrations continued with the Rugby Captains' Dinner and Presentation on Monday evening, followed by our Senior Netball Presentation on Tuesday. These occasions provide an important opportunity not only to recognise results but also to celebrate the commitment and teamwork that underpin our sporting programs. My thanks to our coaches, managers, staff, families and volunteers who give so generously of their time throughout each season.

Wednesday morning was perhaps the most poignant moment of the week as we farewelled our Year 12 Class of 2026. Beginning with the Year 12 Farewell Breakfast, followed by their Final Assembly and concluding with the traditional Walk of Honour and final walk up the stairs, it was an emotional morning for students, staff and particularly our Year 12 families.

There is something incredibly special about watching young people reach this point in their Lindisfarne journey. For some, that journey began many years ago at Sunshine Avenue; for others, Lindisfarne became home later along the way. Regardless of when they joined us, each student leaves having contributed their own chapter to the story of our school. To our Year 12 students, we are immensely proud of you. As you now turn your attention to the HSC examinations and the opportunities that lie beyond the School,

I encourage you to carry with you the values, experiences and sense of belonging that have shaped your time here.

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Suzanne McLean from Round Square to Lindisfarne. Suzanne toured both our Sunshine Avenue and Mahers Lane campuses and spent time learning more about our programs and community. Our connection with Round Square continues to provide valuable opportunities for our students to engage with a global network of schools and to develop the confidence, character and international perspective required to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Today, I had the pleasure of joining members of our community for the Lindisfarne Parents and Friends Golf Day. It was a wonderful way to finish an exceptionally busy term and another reminder of the strength of the relationships that exist across the School. My sincere thanks to our P&F Association, sponsors, participants and everyone who contributed to making the day possible.

As we now head into the School holidays, I want to acknowledge our staff. Term 3 has been an enormous term, filled with camps, performances, sporting competitions, presentations, FunFest, community events, international visitors, excursions and, most importantly, the daily work of teaching, supporting and caring for our students. Much of what makes these opportunities possible happens quietly behind the scenes, and I am deeply grateful for the extraordinary commitment and energy our staff continue to give to our school.

The holidays provide an important opportunity for all of us to step away from the usual routines, spend time with family and friends, and find some space for rest and renewal. I hope our students and families enjoy a safe and refreshing break and return ready for the final term of the year.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,

In my past three articles I wrote on three of our symbols on our School Crest - the Open Book (the Bible), the Torch and the Lion, respectively. In this article I would like to draw your attention to the final symbol upon the Lindisfarne Crest - the River/s.

The reason why we have two rivers joining into one on our School Crest is because Saint Cuthbert established a Monastery at Lindisfarne in Northumbria (modern day northern England) where the Tees and the Tweed rivers meet.

And since the Parish of Saint Cuthbert’s actually birthed our School in 1981, which is also located on the Tweed, the transferable connection to our local context is obvious.

But rivers are also of deep significance in the Bible, from the first book to the last.

In the primeval history of the early chapters of Genesis - the first book of the Bible - we learn that out of Eden, where the tree of life grew, flowed a river (Genesis 2:10).

Eden was actually a temple/garden paradise, where God placed Adam (a generic name, meaning ‘man’) and also Eve (a generic name for ‘woman’, meaning ‘one who bears life’) as priests to guard and protect sacred space and to extend that sacred space out into the chaos of the untamed world.

But instead of extending the goodness and order of God out across the rest of the planet, they let the chaos creature in (which is what a serpent was in Ancient Near Eastern understanding), and the rest is history.

So in the very last chapter of the Bible, we return to the themes of the river and the tree with a description of the restoration of Eden, where we hear these words;

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb (i.e., Jesus) down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations - Revelation 22:1-2.

This connection between God’s Temple/Throne and the river/waters of life is repeated throughout Scripture. Psalm 36:7-9 says:

How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!

People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house;

you give them drink from your river of delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light we see light.

In this context, ‘the shadow of God’s wings’ is a direct reference to the wings of the 2 cherubim that met over the middle of the Ark of The Covenant, which signified God’s very presence (the Shekinah Glory) in the inner-most sanctum of the Temple.

Psalm 46:4-5 adds these words:

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall;

God will help her at break of day.

In the fourth Gospel John connects the concepts of temple and living waters with the very person of Jesus - John 2:18-22 says:

The Jewish authorities then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

Then in John 4:10 & 14 Jesus says to the Samaritan woman at the well:

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water. Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Later, when Jesus was in the Temple precinct during one of the great Jewish religious festivals - The Feast of Tabernacles - he exclaimed:

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

And if we return to the last chapter of the the Bible - Revelation 22:17 - also written by John, this invitation is extended to us all;

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

The reason I’ve drawn all of this together is in an effort to demonstrate that the concept of the river in our School Crest speaks of the waters of life that flow from the very person of God made manifest in Jesus Christ.

The reason it is called ‘living water’ is simply that it is water that gives life.

A pertinent geographical example with drive home this point:

In Northern Israel, where the Sea of Galilee is located, which it is actually a lake rather than a sea, by its very nature it is a living body of water because it receives water from Mount Hermon in the north and empties its water into the river Jordan, which in turn flows into the Dead Sea - the lowest geographical location on Earth.

The reason Galilee is a living body of water is because it receives and gives, whilst the Dead Sea is ‘dead’ because it receives but does not give.

My encouragement to all of us here at Lindisfarne is to be like Galilee - not only receiving, but also giving of ourselves - instead of like the Dead Sea, which only takes!

This week Year 12 completed their formal lessons and commenced study break.

We wish Year 12 all the best for their HSC written examinations, which commence on Tuesday, 13 October.

ICAS Results

Certificates are due to arrive at school over the next few weeks and will be presented to students next term.

If you cannot wait for the certificates you can access the results via the portal.

If your child completed ICAS last year at Lindisfarne their TAP-ID and pin will be on the back of their certificates and you can use these to log in to the results portal via this link.

If your child has not sat ICAS before at Lindisfarne or you cannot find the certificates from last year you can request a TAP-ID and pin via this link.

Interim Reports for students in Years 5-10 and Year 12 Final reports are now available via SEQTA - Engage.

Please take some time to review your child’s report and contact your child's teacher if you have any concerns.

Just a reminder that Term 4 commences on Tuesday, 13 October.

As I come to the end of my first term as Head of Junior School, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their support as I have settled into this new role. I feel very grateful to be part of such a caring and committed community. This final week has been a lovely reminder of that, as we came together to farewell Mr White, support our Caring for Country Market and share our Heroes of Discovery journey with a key representative of the Round Square network.

Farewell to Mr White – Celebrating 44 Years at Lindisfarne

On Monday, our farewell assembly for Mr White was a special opportunity to celebrate his remarkable 44 years of service at Lindisfarne and the positive impact he has had on generations of students.

As he prepares for retirement, we thank him for his dedication and his many contributions to our school community. On behalf of the Junior School, we wish Mr White every happiness as he begins this next chapter.

Caring for Country Market – A Wonderful Community Effort

Our Caring for Country Market on Tuesday morning raised $840, enabling us to purchase seven new log habitats for wildlife at the Junior School. These will be installed over the coming weeks, providing a lasting reminder of what we can achieve together.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the market and came along to support. A special thank you to Mr Scott for sharing his music and creating such a lovely atmosphere throughout the morning, and to Miss Jo, Mrs Leary and the team for their organisation and hard work in making the market another success.

We look forward to our Christmas Market next term.

Round Square Visit – Sharing Our Heroes of Discovery Journey

On Thursday, we welcomed Round Square’s Operations Manager, Suzanne McLean, to our campus to showcase our work with the Heroes of Discovery. It was a lovely opportunity to share our progress so far and our vision for the program’s future.

Suzanne was very positive about our progress, noting that our Junior School is leading the way with the Heroes of Discovery program globally. Her feedback was encouraging, particularly as we look to share our learning with other schools across the Round Square network.

This term, our Bush Preschool took on an exciting new trial at the Cudgen Creek Boat House location. We are thrilled to share that it has been a huge success and will now become a permanent Term 3 location for our program into the future!

Connecting the children to this unique place which is part of our school community has been a joy. A special highlight for the children has been watching the older students head out on the water for kayaking, while the older students equally love spotting our bush preschoolers out and about exploring the water's edge.

Our time by the creek has been filled with unforgettable moments, including:

• Adventure Walks & Discoveries: Navigating mangrove trails, following new bush tracks to hidden beaches, tracking bird footprints in the sand, and learning about local plants and wildlife.

• Hands-On STEM & Creativity: Exploring weather dynamics with wind-driven bubbles and windsocks, investigating rain clouds, and experimenting with sunlight and chemical reactions to create sunprints for our Care for Country Market.

• Wildlife & Bush Safety: Learning about the local seasonal changes by seeing goannas and tree snakes up close, putting our snake safety responses into practice with calm awareness and deep respect for local fauna.

• Imaginative Bush Play: Crafting fish traps, tree swinging, building base-camp cubbies, nature journaling, and mixing up mud-kitchen bush medicines.

Cudgen Creek Boat House has truly proven to be a special place for our children to connect with nature, build confidence, and deepen their understanding of Country.

Year 8 24-Hour Run - Almost There

What a fantastic 24 hours!

Last Thursday and Friday, our Year 8 students took on the 24-Hour Run, their major Leadership and Service Project for 2026. Students took turns running and walking on treadmills, working collectively to keep them moving continuously for the full 24 hours.

Our Year 8 students should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Whether running, walking, supporting their classmates or helping behind the scenes, everyone had a part to play. A special acknowledgement goes to our overnight team, who ran through the night and kept the treadmills moving into the early hours of the morning.

This year’s fundraising builds on Lindisfarne’s connection with the Hope Vale community. Funds raised will support the First Nations Bursary through the Toowoomba Anglican School Foundation, providing students from Hope Vale with the opportunity to undertake their secondary education at Toowoomba Anglican School. It’s a wonderful example of our students putting leadership and service into action.

A huge thank you to our Year 8 families for supporting the event and to the staff who organised, supervised, ran alongside our students, and kept the energy and spirits high across the 24 hours. Year 7 Leadership

This week has had a strong leadership focus for our Year 7 students as they begin preparing to become the leaders of the Middle School in 2027.

On Monday, Year 7 students worked with our Year 6 students in a Peer Leadership session. In small groups, they planned and ran a range of activities, allowing them to lead younger students, communicate clearly, work together, and ensure everyone was involved.

We built on this experience on Thursday with our Year 7 Leadership Day. Students explored what good leadership looks like, with a strong focus on leadership through service, responsibility and setting a positive example. They also took part in team challenges focused on communication and cooperation, and reflected on the qualities they value in others and the type of leader they want to be.

The day finished with looking ahead to our 2027 Middle School leadership roles, with nominations, speeches and voting taking place next term. Students learnt more about the responsibilities of our Middle School Captains and House Captains and were encouraged to consider whether formal leadership is something they would like to pursue.

While not everyone will hold a formal position, every Year 8 student will be a leader of our Middle School in 2027, with an important role to play in setting the example and contributing positively to our community.

Wait Mate - Lindisfarne Families

We’re continuing to encourage Lindisfarne families to consider Wait Mate, an initiative that helps parents who are thinking about delaying smartphones for their children connect with other families in the same year group who are making a similar choice.

We already have a number of Lindisfarne families registered across the Middle School, and we’d love to see this grow. The more families who participate, the more helpful it becomes in reducing some of the pressure around “everyone else has a phone”.

There’s no prescribed age or expectation - families decide what’s right for them and can choose how long they’d like to wait.

If delaying a smartphone is something you’re considering for your child, we encourage you to add your family to the Lindisfarne Wait Mate community.

Australian Air League - Cadet Opportunities

The NSW Group of the Australian Air League is currently welcoming new cadets.

The Australian Air League provides young people with an opportunity to learn about aviation while developing skills in leadership, teamwork, discipline and self-confidence. Cadets meet regularly with their local Squadron and can take part in a range of activities including aviation studies, ceremonial drill, weekend camps, training courses and opportunities to go flying.

Members can explore areas including meteorology, navigation and aero engines, as well as photography, field craft and community service.

The Australian Air League welcomes boys and girls from eight years of age, and families can also become involved through volunteering and supporting their local Squadron.

Term 3 Holidays

As we come to the end of Term 3, I’d like to wish all of our Middle School students and families a safe and enjoyable holiday break. I hope there’s an opportunity to slow down, spend time together and enjoy a well-earned rest.

Wednesday marked one of the most anticipated moments in the Senior School calendar. Following the Year 12 Leavers’ Breakfast and Final Assembly, the Class of 2026 made their way through the Avenue of Honour before taking that long-awaited walk up the stairs.

For many of our students, that moment has been years in the making. They have watched the cohorts before them climb those stairs and wondered what it would feel like when their own turn finally came. Then, almost without warning, the day arrived.

At the Final Assembly, we reflected on how quietly childhood gives way to young adulthood. Photographs of our Year 12 students as babies and young children sat alongside images of the capable young people they have become. The change was unmistakable, yet it did not happen in one defining moment. It occurred gradually, through thousands of ordinary school days, conversations, challenges and opportunities.

The walk up the stairs symbolises that growth. It is not quite a final farewell, but it does mark the beginning of the end of their time at Lindisfarne. Important milestones remain, including the HSC Examinations, Eucharist, Formal and Speech Day. Their work is not yet finished, but the familiar rhythm of daily school life has now fallen away.

As one cohort reaches this point, another prepares to step forward.

In only a matter of weeks, our current Year 11 students will begin their Year 12 courses. At the moment, the conclusion of their own schooling may still feel distant. If Wednesday reminded us of anything, however, it is that the time will pass remarkably quickly.

Year 12 brings greater independence, but it also carries greater responsibility. Our students will become the most senior members of the School and the example observed by every younger student. Their approach to learning, their conduct and the way they treat others will shape the tone of the Senior School.

The Class of 2026 has set a wonderful example. They have contributed generously to the life of Lindisfarne and supported one another through the demands of their final year. While their story is not yet complete, their legacy is becoming clear.

That is something our Year 11 students should begin to consider now. Legacy is not created during a Final Assembly or in the final weeks of Year 12. It is built quietly through everyday choices: whether students involve themselves in the life of the School, how they respond when things become difficult and whether they leave those around them better for having shared the journey.

Before long, it will be their turn to walk through the Avenue of Honour and climb those stairs. When that moment arrives, I hope they can look back knowing they made the most of the time they had and left a positive mark on the community that helped shape them.

We are thrilled to announce that two of our Year 11 students, Evie Nowland and Bella Hardy, have been named in the Top 45 of this year's Bond University Film & Television Academy Awards (BUFTA).

Evie has been recognised in the Animation category, while Bella has achieved the remarkable feat of being shortlisted in two categories, Drama and Experimental, with two separate films. All three films were created this year as part of the Year 11 Digital Media course.

Reaching the Top 45 is a significant achievement. BUFTA is the largest student film competition in Australia, open to Year 11 and 12 students across the country and to international entrants. Often described as Bond University's answer to the Oscars, the competition has been running since 1996 and has become a launching pad for young filmmakers, with many Bond Film and Television graduates getting their start through BUFTA before going on to careers in the global film industry. To stand out in such a large and talented field is a real credit to Evie and Bella's creativity, dedication and skill.

The Top 27 will be announced on 1 October. Those selected will be invited to attend the red-carpet awards ceremony at Bond University, where they will be in the running for a range of prizes, including a full scholarship to study the Bachelor of Film and Television at Bond.

Please join us in congratulating Evie and Bella on this outstanding achievement, and wishing them the very best of luck as they await the next announcement.

♟️ Lindisfarne Invitational Chess Tournament – Coming in Term 4

Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School is excited to host the 2026 Lindisfarne Invitational Chess Tournament in partnership with Gardiner Chess on Wednesday, 25 November
(Week 8) at our Terranora Campus.

The tournament will welcome students from schools across the NSW/Queensland border region and surrounding communities, with Primary and Secondary competitions planned for the day.

Interest in the inaugural event is already building, with a number of local schools confirming their involvement. Students will compete individually across a series of games throughout the day, while also representing their school as part of the broader competition.

The tournament provides a fantastic opportunity for students to test their skills against players from other schools, build connections through chess and enjoy some friendly interschool competition.

Term 3 was a vibrant and action-packed period for our international program as we welcomed students and educators from across the globe. Hosting these groups brings a deep sense of connectedness to our campus, reminding us that we are all global citizens. Sharing our school and community allows our students to shine, demonstrate leadership, and build lasting new friendships. These groups also allow our school community to be involved in hosting and being of service to others which reflects our Anglican Ethos and the deep values of our school.

Throughout the term, we were delighted to host a wonderful variety of visiting study tour groups:

• The Hokkaido Australia Society & Aoyama Gakuin Middle School: Reconnecting with our long-standing Japanese friends and welcoming students from our prestigious sister school, Aoyama Gakuin.

• TakeOff Gold Coast Agency: Visiting students from Japan who engaged in immersive language practice and classroom life.

• Hangzhou Wenlan High School & Yuanqing High School: Hosting our sister school Hangzhou Wenlan alongside visiting students from Yuanqing High School in mainland China, fostering rich cultural exchanges.

• New Caledonia: A visiting group who spent a dynamic day experiencing life on our campus.

• Imagine Education: A diverse cohort from this local partner, bringing together students from Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan.

We also opened our arms and our support to seven new international students who joined our community as either semester or long-term students. This cohort brings with them rich culture, a deep sense of commitment to learning, and a spirit of adventure as they travel from far and wide to experience education in Australia. We are deeply grateful that they chose Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School - our school body is richer for their presence, perspective, and friendship.

CIS Athletics Secondary Results

Congratulations to Isobel Alford, who delivered an exceptional performance at the CIS Athletics Championship! Isobel ran two personal bests, securing 3rd place in the 100m and earning her a spot to compete at the NSWPSSA Championships in October. She also achieved a fantastic 4th place finish in the 200m.

At Lindisfarne, learning extends well beyond the traditional classroom. Offering horse riding as a recreational sport in Years 7-10 provides our students with a unique opportunity to step into nature, build meaningful bonds with animals, and engage in an incredibly rewarding physical pursuit. Unlike conventional team sports, equestrian training fosters a distinct kind of athletic development—one where success is built on empathy, acute awareness, and mutual trust between rider and horse.

Beyond the immediate joy of being in the saddle, horse riding delivers profound physical and emotional benefits. Physically, it develops exceptional core strength, balance, posture, and coordination in an active, dynamic environment. Mentally, caring for and riding a horse teaches essential life skills like patience, accountability, and emotional regulation. Students quickly learn that horses mirror human energy, encouraging riders to remain calm, focused, and adaptable—qualities that translate directly into classroom resilience and personal maturity.

A key feature of our recreational riding program is its inclusive, non-competitive spirit. Designed for all experience levels, the program allows beginners to comfortably build confidence while giving experienced riders a space to hone their skills without the pressure of high-stakes competition. It gives students who might not gravitate toward traditional sports a vibrant avenue to shine, bond with like-minded peers, and develop a lifelong passion for outdoor recreation and animal welfare.

We thank Kyllarie Retreat at Eviron for giving our students such a welcoming environment in which to ride and grow, ably supported by long-time facilitator, Ms McCreery.

Applications are now open for Instrumental and Vocal Tuition commencing in Term 4.

Students have the opportunity to learn from our team of experienced professional music tutors through Lindisfarne’s co-curricular music tuition program. Lessons are available in voice and a wide range of instruments across both campuses.

Families wishing to apply for tuition are invited to complete the application form. Applications will be reviewed over the holiday period, with families contacted at the beginning of Term 4 regarding lesson arrangements.

Free School Holiday Swim Lessons

Laurie Lawrence Swim School is thrilled to invite families to a special event as part of the "Swim Into Summer with Kids Alive" campaign.

Join them for a Splash-tastic Week of 5 FREE swimming lessons. Families can phone to book or visit the swim school.

Based locally at 111 Dry Dock Road, Tweed Heads South, TS Vampire provides a structured youth development program with a maritime focus for young people aged 13–17. Cadets build leadership, teamwork, and practical skills through sailing, seamanship, navigation, drones, robotics, camps, and community service. Uniforms are provided free on loan, and there are currently no mandatory unit fees.

• Next Intake: Starts Saturday, 10 October 2026 (for students turning 13 in 2026 or aged 13–16).
• Turning 13 in 2027? Year 6 students turning 13 next year are encouraged to learn about the program now in preparation for future intake.
