2026 Term 3 Week 3 7 Aug 2026
Upcoming Events
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been a full and rewarding week, with students embracing academic challenges, representing the School with pride and participating in experiences that extend learning well beyond the classroom. It is always a privilege to see the many ways in which our students continue to grow through the diverse opportunities available at Lindisfarne.
For our Year 12 students, the focus this week has been firmly on the HSC Trial Examinations. These important assessments mark a significant stage in their final year of schooling and are the result of many months of dedication and preparation. I know our students have approached this period with maturity and determination, and I thank our teachers and families for the guidance and encouragement they continue to provide. We wish every student the very best throughout the examination period.
On Monday, our Year 6 students departed for Canberra to explore Australia's capital and deepen their understanding of our nation's history, democracy and government. Experiences such as these bring classroom learning to life and provide lasting memories as students share this important milestone together. Thank you to the dedicated staff who supported and cared for the students throughout the time away from School.
This week we were delighted to welcome students and staff from the Take Off Study Group, Japan. We also had a visit from students from Yuanquing High School, China. Our international partnerships are a valued part of the Lindisfarne experience, enriching our School community through cultural exchange, friendship and shared learning. We trust our visitors have enjoyed experiencing life at Lindisfarne and thank our staff, students and host families for their warm hospitality throughout the week.
On Wednesday, Lindisfarne was proud to host the NCIS Athletics Carnival at Walter Peate Oval in Kingscliff. It was wonderful to welcome schools from across the region for a day that celebrated participation, determination and outstanding competition. My sincere thanks go to the many staff, officials and volunteers whose planning and commitment ensured the carnival was such a success, and congratulations to every student who represented Lindisfarne with enthusiasm and pride.
As this newsletter is published, I am in Sydney attending the Australian Education Awards, where Lindisfarne has been named a finalist and excellence awardee for Best Use of Technology and Innovation in Learning Design (Senior Center). To receive this recognition is a wonderful acknowledgement of the exceptional work undertaken every day by our staff, the commitment of our students and the ongoing support of our families. Regardless of tonight's outcomes, we are incredibly proud to see our School recognised on the national stage.
FunFest 2026 is shaping up to be a great celebration of our Lindisfarne community, with entertainment, activities, rides, food and plenty of fun for all ages. This year, FunFest will also incorporate the Student Art Exhibition, providing even more opportunities for our community to view and engage with the outstanding work of our students. Adding to the excitement will be our major raffle, with an MG3 car as the first prize. Details on how to purchase tickets will be shared shortly. I encourage everyone to save the date and join us for one of the highlights of the School calendar.

Next week, we are excited to welcome Kimberly Mathewson to Lindisfarne as our Assistant Head of Junior School. Kimberley brings more than 20 years in Primary Education to Lindisfarne, having served in a range of leadership roles throughout her career, including Leader of Pedagogy, Assistant Principal, Education Officer and Classroom Teacher. We look forward to welcoming Kimberly to our school and know that her expertise and collaborative approach will add great value to our Junior School community.
Today our longest-serving staff member, John White, retires after 44 years of service to Lindisfarne! We are so grateful to John for his significant contribution to our school and community. We’ll be officially farewelling John later this term at a special Junior School assembly. Congratulations, John, on a well-deserved retirement.
Finally, today, 7 August 2026 is Australia’s Primary Principals Day recognising those who lead Junior Schools and the Primary years of education in Australian Schools.
We celebrate the work of our Head of Junior School Angela Mundy (Preschool to Year 4) and our Head of Middle School Cathy Cox (Stage 3). We know that your leadership is both immensely rewarding and increasingly complex, and the support, encouragement and recognition offered by our school community matters greatly.
The work of a leader in the Primary years of education in Australia is particularly significant. These are the years in which children form their earliest impressions of themselves as learners and begin to develop the confidence, curiosity, resilience and sense of belonging that will support them throughout their education and beyond. Research continues to reinforce the importance of high-quality learning experiences in the primary years of schooling, not only for academic progress, but for wellbeing, engagement and long-term success.
Thank you for your continued support of our School. I wish all members of our Lindisfarne community a safe and relaxing weekend, and I look forward to another exciting week of learning and opportunity ahead.
Warm regards,
Stuart Marquardt

Chaplaincy
Chaplaincy News
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,
For my articles so far this year we have been focusing on the Six Ideals of Round Square. In this article we will look at Compassion as it is the first subcategory of the Ideal of Leadership.
Compassion is also the first of our three School Values (the other two being Wisdom and Respect), which is one of the reasons I was attracted to joining the chaplaincy team here at Lindisfarne.
When we explored the theme of Compassion in Chapel this week, I asked the students to break into small groups and to come up with their own definition of compassion. I was so impressed by their answers.
As a way of understanding compassion even deeper, we then considered the opposite.
We looked at the famous quote defining evil as an absence of empathy, which was stated by Captain G. M. Gilbert,, an American Army psychologist, who observed the Nazi defendants during the Nuremberg trials from 1945-9.
He stated; “I told you once that I was searching for the nature of evil. I think I've come close to defining it: a lack of empathy. It's the one characteristic that connects all the defendants. A genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow human. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.”
In line with the wonderful definitions of compassion that the students shared, I emphasized that empathy is the first step towards compassion - empathy is feeling for another person’s predicament, compassion is doing something about it.
Compassion is also deeply rooted, not only within Christianity, but the more ancient religion of Judaism from which Christianity is derived.
In Exodus 33, Moses asked to see God’s glory. The Hebrew word for ‘glory’ is ‘Kavod,’ which literally means ‘weightiness.’ What Moses was actually asking for was to know God’s very essence.
God accommodates Moses’ request by directing him to hide himself in the cleft of a rock, as God passes by. The primary way in which God then reveals himself is by offering Moses a description of his character.
And the very first word that God uses to describe his character to Moses in Exodus 34:6-7 is “compassionate,” which relates to the Hebrew (the language of the Old Testament) word for “womb.”
This means that God is actually being depicted as a nursing mother. The image is really powerful – a mother holds her nursing baby close to her heart and looks deeply into their big eyes and sustains them with her own life.
And so, there is a maternal nature to God that looks down upon us all as beloved children.
The English language also recognizes this connection between the words “woman” and "womb." Of course, women in general have a natural inclination towards compassion, not just mothers.
The Greek (the language of the New Testament) word for compassion means “to be moved inwardly.” It refers to feeling something so intensely inside that it drives you to action.
Not surprisingly, it is used of Jesus frequently throughout the Gospels to describe his immediate response to encountering desperate human need.
One of the most moving (excuse the pun) accounts is when Jesus encountered a leper in the very first chapter of Mark’s Gospel.
In ancient times, lepers were required to live in leper colonies, to keep their distance from those not contaminated by the disease and to ring bells whilst crying out “unclean, unclean,” to warn anyone coming in close proximity, to turn away.
But astonishingly, when Jesus encountered a leper, instead of turning away, he turned towards and touched the untouchable.
This act of compassion not only healed the leper, but actually gave him his life back, as he could now return to his family and reclaim his place in society.
At Lindisfarne, we want to help shape people of compassion.
We are all so privileged to be a part of this amazing school, which provides us with so many opportunities to learn and flourish.
It is my hope and prayer that we will take this privilege and use it compassionately whenever and wherever we encounter any need along the way.
Blessings,
Reverend Lyndon

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day “Living Our Truth”
On Tuesday, 4 August, our Lindisfarne community proudly comes together to mark Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day with a special flag raising ceremony across both our Senior and Junior campuses. This year's theme, "Living Our Truth," invites us all to celebrate the strength, identity and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children while honouring the enduring cultures, histories and knowledge that have shaped this Country for tens of thousands of years.

At Lindisfarne, we believe that learning begins with listening. Through our shared values of Compassion, Wisdom and Respect, we strive to create a community where every child feels seen, valued and empowered to be proud of who they are. Today is an opportunity to recognise the unique contributions of our First Nations students and to reaffirm our commitment to walking together in truth, understanding and reconciliation.
As our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags are raised, they stand as powerful symbols of identity, resilience and hope. They remind us of the importance of acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we learn and play, and of ensuring that the stories, cultures and perspectives of Australia's First Peoples continue to be celebrated and respected.
May today's ceremony inspire us all to continue listening, learning and growing together as we build a future grounded in kindness, understanding and a deep respect for the rich cultural heritage that makes our school and our nation stronger.

Health Updates
We are aware of a number of confirmed and suspected cases of Influenza A within our school community.
We ask all families to help reduce the spread of illness by keeping students at home if they are unwell. Students who develop flu-like symptoms while at school will be sent home and should remain at home until their symptoms have resolved and they are feeling well. If a student has had a fever, they should not return to school until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
As we are entering the peak of the influenza season, NSW Health advises that annual influenza vaccination is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious illness from influenza. Vaccination is available through your local GP or pharmacy.
Please refer to the below NSW Health Influenza Fact Sheet for further information.

From the Head of Junior School
It has been another wonderful week in the Junior School, with every day bringing new opportunities for learning, friendship and growth. Across our classrooms, students have continued to challenge themselves, ask thoughtful questions and celebrate their achievements, while our playgrounds have been filled with laughter, friendship and fun!
Next week, we are excited to welcome Kimberly Mathewson to Lindisfarne as our new Assistant Head of Junior School. Kimberly brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership, curriculum and teaching and learning, along with a genuine passion for supporting students, staff and families.
We look forward to welcoming Kimberly to our community and know her leadership, expertise and collaborative approach will be a valuable addition as she works alongside our staff, students and families in the Junior School.
Lunchtime Clubs in Action
There have been some wonderful additions to the lunchtime club program this term, providing students with even more opportunities to build friendships, explore new interests and develop new skills during their break times.
One club that has quickly become a favourite is the Paper Aeroplane Club, led by our wonderful Learning Assistant, Miss Tammy. Held every Wednesday and Friday at lunchtime, students design, build and test a variety of paper aeroplanes while exploring the science of flight. Through experimenting, refining their designs and encouraging one another, they compete in four fun categories: The Golden Flight, The Longest Ride, Spectacular Moves and Decorative Design.

It has been wonderful to see students celebrating one another's successes and enjoying some friendly competition as they work towards a place on the Champion Board and the coveted Lindisfarne Paper Plane Trophy.
Celebrating Student Leadership
Congratulations to our Term 3 House Captains and Sustainability Leaders, who have made an outstanding start to their leadership journey. Already, they have demonstrated enthusiasm, responsibility and a genuine commitment to serving our Junior School community. We look forward to seeing on them continue to grow in confidence and lead by example throughout the term.

Coffee with the Junior School Psychologist

A Wonderful French Connection with Collège de Magenta
This week, we were delighted to welcome students and staff from Collège de Magenta in Nouméa to Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School for a special cultural visit.

Our visitors were warmly welcomed across both the Mahers Lane campus and the Junior School, and they were deeply impressed by the beauty of our school and the friendliness of our community. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with French-speaking students in an authentic and meaningful way.
Students who study French at Lindisfarne were absolutely outstanding. They generously shared morning tea at Mahers Lane and lunch at the Junior School, helping our visitors feel included and valued throughout the day. It was fantastic to see conversations flow naturally, new friendships begin to form, and students gain confidence in using their French while learning about another culture.
The visit was a rich experience of cultural exchange, language learning, and international friendship, and it was clear that everyone involved benefited from the opportunity. Our guests enjoyed their time so much that the exciting possibility of a future student exchange, including homestays, was even discussed.
A sincere thank you to all the staff and students who helped make this visit such a success. Their hospitality, enthusiasm, and support ensured that it was a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Every Day Matters
Regular attendance plays an important role in a student’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. While there will always be times when students are genuinely unwell and need to remain at home, it is worth considering how quickly other absences can accumulate over the course of the school year.
As the figures show, 90% attendance may sound high, but it equates to around four weeks of school missed across a year. Those are four weeks of lessons, discussions, practical learning experiences, pastoral care, friendships and opportunities that cannot be fully replicated.
For our Middle School students, being at school is about more than keeping up with classwork. It is also about establishing routines, developing independence, building positive relationships with teachers and peers, and feeling connected to the life of the School. These experiences contribute significantly to students’ confidence, engagement and overall success.
When students are absent, they often return having missed not only new learning but also the conversations, collaborative activities and shared experiences that help them feel connected and confident in the classroom. Catching up on missed work is only one part of the challenge; rebuilding continuity in learning and reconnecting with classmates can be equally important.
Wherever possible, we encourage families to prioritise regular attendance and avoid unnecessary absences during term time. By working together to support consistent attendance, we give our young people the best opportunity to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Every day really does matter.
Year 6 Canberra Experience
It was wonderful to see our Year 6 students return from their Canberra experience this week. Camps and excursions provide opportunities for students to develop independence, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories beyond the classroom.
My thanks go to Mrs Kristina Diaz and the staff who accompanied the students throughout the week. Their care, commitment and willingness to invest in experiences such as these make a significant difference to our students.
I also extend my thanks to our Year 6 families for their support in preparing students for the trip. We look forward to hearing more about the highlights and learning from their time in our nation's capital.
Year 5 Camp Information Session
Our Year 5 Camp is fast approaching, and we look forward to sharing more information with families about this exciting experience.
Parents and carers are invited to join us for an online information session on Wednesday, 12 August, from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm. During the session, Mrs Paula Drew and the Year 5 team will outline the camp program, discuss accommodation, activities, supervision and safety arrangements, explain what students need to bring, and answer any questions families may have.
The information session is a valuable opportunity to ensure students and parents feel confident and well prepared ahead of camp.

From the Head of Senior School
This week, it was reported in the national media that an ACT school was investigating an incident in which male students allegedly created and circulated a list ranking 100 female students according to their appearance.
It is not the first incident of this kind to receive national attention. In fact, it seems that every six months or so we read another deeply troubling story involving students using lists, group chats or social media to rank and demean their peers. Each time, there is widespread condemnation and renewed discussion about respect. Yet, before long, the cycle begins again.
That cycle is a clear indication that our work in educating young people about compassion, wisdom and respect is never completely achieved.
These values cannot simply be addressed in a lesson or reinforced at an assembly and then considered mastered. They require ongoing conversations and consistent modelling from the adults in our young people’s lives. Most importantly, they need to be practised by students in the way they speak about others and conduct themselves online.
Ranking young women according to their appearance is not harmless fun. It reduces individuals to a score and invites others to judge their worth against a narrow and superficial standard. For the young women named, the consequences may be deeply personal and enduring. Digital content can also spread quickly, reaching an audience far beyond those for whom it was originally intended.
There is an important lesson here about the role of the bystander. Harmful behaviour often relies on an audience willing to laugh, share or remain silent. Respect sometimes requires the courage to interrupt the moment by saying, “This is not okay,” or by seeking the support of a trusted adult.
In the Senior School, we must continue to speak openly with students about respectful relationships and the responsibility that comes with belonging to a community. We must challenge language and behaviour that objectifies or humiliates others, while helping young people understand the very real impact their choices can have.
Schools cannot do this work alone. Our partnership with families is essential. The conversations taking place at school need to be reinforced at home, and the values taught at home need to be supported by the School.
I encourage parents and carers to use this incident as an opportunity for conversation. Ask your young person what they would do if this type of content appeared in a group chat. Talk about the difference between joining in, remaining silent and choosing to intervene. These discussions may feel uncomfortable, but they are necessary.
Compassion, wisdom and respect are not lessons our young people will learn once and retain without further thought. They need to hear these messages repeatedly and see them modelled consistently.
If we want to break this troubling cycle, schools and families must continue this work together.

Congratulations to Arlo in Year 7, who recently represented LAGS as our first-ever student to compete in the Interschools Snowsport Championships!
Currently based in Jindabyne for the snow season, Arlo hit the slopes earlier in July to compete in both the Snowboard Alpine and Snowboard Cross events within the Northern NSW & QLD Division. Following a great performance, Arlo has qualified for the State Championships for Snowboard Cross, which will take place at Perisher on August 19.
Well done, Arlo. We wish him the best of luck at State!

RECENT GAMES
NSW RUGBY FNC 7s
Our Lindisfarne rugby 7s squads travelled to Casino for a valuable 7s trial tournament, using the day to build combinations, develop game understanding, and prepare for the remaining tournaments. Across all the matches, our squads showed exciting attacking rugby, resilience, and continuous improvement.
U18 Boys
Game 1 – Lindisfarne vs St Mary’s 43–7
Lindisfarne faced an unusual start after a mix-up with the draw meant our team arrived late to the field, conceding an early try before settling into the contest. Once the boys found their rhythm, they took complete control of the match. The attack flowed freely, with George Morgan and Zane Weston combining superbly to create opportunities, while Chase Wilson controlled the middle of the field and linked play effectively. From there, Lindisfarne ran away with the game, producing an impressive opening victory.
Game 2 – Lindisfarne vs Macaulay College 31-0
A complete team performance saw Lindisfarne keep their opponents scoreless while playing some of their best rugby of the day. Caleb Doevendans was outstanding over the ball, producing several crucial jackal turnovers to halt Macaulay’s momentum. Aiden Broadhurst consistently threatened the defence with sharp line breaks, crossing for a well-earned try, while the team impressed with excellent ball movement from sideline to sideline, making smart decisions to create space. It was a disciplined and clinical performance built on teamwork and unselfish play.
Game 3 – Lindisfarne vs Ballina Coast High School 31-14
Ballina entered the match as one of the strongest teams of the tournament and have traditionally been a difficult opponent. Lindisfarne responded with one of their most complete performances of the day. Archie Loemker was exceptional, dominating the aerial contest and providing confidence under the high ball. Aiden Broadhurst again demonstrated excellent game management, making quality decisions that created space for those around him. Will Stovin and Captain Tucker Groves combined well, attacking with speed and finishing off opportunities to help secure an impressive victory over quality opposition.
Game 4 – Lindisfarne vs The Rivers Secondary College (TRSC) 26–26 Draw
The final game of the day tested the team’s character after three demanding matches. Lindisfarne started slowly, with a couple of costly turnovers and poor option-taking allowing TRSC to build a 26–12 lead with just 90 seconds remaining. What followed was a tremendous display of resilience. Refusing to give in, the boys scored two late tries to level the match at 26–26, showing determination and belief until the final whistle. Archie Loemker again produced a strong all-round performance, while George Morgan was influential throughout the comeback, helping inspire the late fightback.
Tournament Summary
The Casino 7s tournament was an outstanding learning experience for the U18 squad. Across the four matches, the team displayed exciting attacking rugby, strong support play, and growing confidence with the ball in hand. Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the day was the character shown by the group. Whether responding to an early setback in the opening match or mounting a dramatic comeback in the final game, the players continued to compete for one another and never stopped working.

U18 Girls
Our U18 girls who were low in numbers for this tournament, came up against some really strong opposition during the day but as expected, the whole team fought incredibly hard and did themselves proud. It gave the team plenty of opportunity to work on their defence and when the opportunity arose on attack, they did incredibly well. The girls ended up winning one game and losing two. The highlight was the return to the team of Sienna after a long recovery from injury late last year and she performed incredibly well, playing in both the U16 and U18 teams throughout the day and claiming the player of the day award for the U18 girls.

U16 Girls
Our U16 Girls faced some physically demanding opposition during the day with the tactics of the other teams very forward orientated, running direct lines similar to rugby league. Our team dealt incredibly well with this defensively and when in possession of the ball, played some excellent tactical 7’s rugby scoring some brilliant individual and team tries. The progress of our work around the ruck and our workrate in defence and attack when tracking our team mates was pleasing to see. Ivy picked up our player of the day award due to her incredible workrate both in attack and defence, scoring many tries throughout the day.
U14 Girls
The U14 Girls had a mixed day with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Because this team has set such high standards over the last couple of years, they were very disappointed with how they played in their final game, mainly around their lack of commitment at the ruck which meant we spent most of our final game defending. It is so pleasing to see though that the girls are aware of what they need to improve on and that they want to get better.
During the other games, some amazing rugby was played, excellent tackling and attacking play, scoring some excellent tries. Considering we were slightly lower on numbers than usual and some of our players were still under the weather, it was a very successful day. Lucia received the player of the day award thanks to her strong ball running and strong defence.

2026 Training Schedule and Notes - Term 3 Update
Please take note of the 2026 training schedule below. Rugby union is a team sport and we need as many of our players to be in attendance week in and week out to grow the Lindisfarne rugby program. Please note we will NOT be sending reminders for these training sessions (all players and families should assume training will ALWAYS BE ON), however we will let you all know with as much time as possible if we need to cancel a session due to weather or other factors.
Students should be in proper training attire (NOT school sports uniform) with mouthguard, boots and any other equipment they play with for every training session. This requirement also includes integrated school sport on Thursday i.e., students should wear our rugby training top or similar training top and not the school sport polo at this time. Alongside this, students should have a towel and spare school uniform to change into in case there is wet weather.
Outside of rugby training times, students should be in the correct uniform, which includes wearing the school sport polo on Thursday in P1-2 and P5-6 and in PE lessons and not rugby training tops.

HSC Drama Showcase Evening
Last week, our Year 12 Drama students presented their HSC Showcase, sharing the practical works they have been developing throughout the course with family, friends, and members of the school community.

It was wonderful to see the confidence each student brought to the stage. Their performances reflected not only their individual talents but also the many hours of rehearsal, problem-solving, and perseverance that have gone into preparing their projects over the past few months.
Their willingness to take risks, embrace feedback, and continually encourage one another has been a joy to witness. Watching them grow as performers and as a class has been just as rewarding as seeing their final performances.
Thank you to the families, staff, and friends who joined us for the evening and continue to support our students throughout their HSC journey. Congratulations to our Year 12 Drama students on reaching this important milestone. I wish each of them every success as they continue refining their work ahead of the HSC Drama Practical Examination in September. It has been a privilege to be part of their journey, and I look forward to seeing all that they achieve in the mon
