2026 Term 4 Week 4 6 Nov 2026
Upcoming Events
From the Principal
Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
This week has been filled with significant milestones, important transitions, thanksgiving, and celebrations as we marked the end of HSC Exams for the Class of 2026.
Our community's highlight this week has undoubtedly been our Year 12 cohort. After months of intensive preparation, focus, and dedication, the HSC examinations have officially concluded! To our Year 12 students: congratulations. Reaching the end of this examination period is an enormous achievement, and we commend each of you for the resilience, determination, and grace you have shown throughout this demanding time in your life.
Tonight, we gather for the Graduation Eucharist to give thanks for the Class of 2026, their parents, the staff, and the significant people who have shared in and shaped our young people's educational journey. This service is always one of the most sacred and beautiful occasions on our school calendar. It gives our Year 12 students, their families, and staff a meaningful moment to gather in worship, reflect on their Lindisfarne journey, and offer prayers of thanksgiving and blessing as they prepare to venture into the world beyond our school.
Tomorrow evening, the celebrations continue with one of the year's most anticipated events: the Year 12 Formal. It will be a special opportunity for the Class of 2026 and their families to dress up, celebrate their achievements, and enjoy an evening of music, laughter, and shared memories together. We look forward to creating a memorable night for a cohort that has given so much to our school community.
Thank you, as always, to our dedicated staff who have worked tirelessly to support our Year 12 students through to this point, and to our parents for your steadfast support over many years.
Earlier in the week, our Mahers Lane Campus gathered for a very special milestone: our Year 8 to Year 9 Transition Service. This service marks an important rite of passage for our Middle School students as they prepare to step into the Senior School in 2027. It was a poignant moment to reflect on their growth and development through the Middle School Years and to encourage them as they prepare for the exciting academic and learning opportunities that lie ahead in Senior School.
I began the week in Sydney attending the Term 4 AHISA (Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia) Branch Meeting. Connecting with fellow principals and educational leaders across the state is always valuable. I also spent time working with a group of Principals from Regional Independent Schools New South Wales as we explored a report prepared by Independent Schools Australia (ISA) on the Cost of Distance. We continue to lobby the Federal and State Governments for greater funding for Regional Schools that offer an outstanding education and overcome the tyranny of distance. Working with colleagues across the State gives us space to share insights, reflect on broader sector trends, and discuss the shared opportunities and challenges facing independent education as we look to the future.
Wishing all our families a wonderful weekend and, hopefully, a chance to enjoy some time outdoors in the Sunshine.
Warm regards,
Stuart Marquardt

Chaplaincy News
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,
This week we had our Year 8-9 transition service, so I would like to share with you in this article what I shared with the Year 8s during my Chaplaincy Reflection at this special service.
I reminded our Year 8s that whether they have been at Lindisfarne since Junior, or even Pre-School. or have joined us sometime during Middle School, that at the time of their enrolment, they were encouraged to truly embrace our school motto:
“Luceat Lux Vestra” - “Let Your Light Shine,”
As they are now on the cusp of Senior School, I encouraged them to continue to let their light shine.
Because the sad reality is that the world would often prefer us to conform rather than to shine uniquely.
In fact, the Gospel reading which was read out on this special occasion, from where our motto comes, was actually, originally, a critique, as much as it was an encouragement - what was known in Judaism of the time as a ‘critique from within.’
You see, ancient Israel was called to be God’s chosen people (see Exodus 19:4-6), not for their own sake, but to be a light to the nations (see Isaiah 49:1-6, esp. 6).
But instead of shining God’s light for all to see, they went from just wanting to be like everyone else (cf. 1 Samuel 8:5ff), which ultimately led to their exile in Babylon, to effectively shutting themselves off from the outside world upon their return.
So when Jesus said that a city on a hilltop cannot be hidden, he wasn’t just talking about any old city on any old hilltop, he was referring to Israel’s capital city - the hilled city of Jerusalem.
And on the highest peak of Jerusalem was Mount Zion, where the Temple was built, from where God’s light was to shine most brightly, attracting all people to that light like a moth to a flame.
But instead of shining their light for all to see, they ultimately became inwardly focused and, in effect, put their light under a basket.
This is why Jesus came to be God’s light to the world, so that all could be drawn to God’s light shining through him.
But what does all this mean for our Year 8s transitioning into Senior School?
Well, it is to encourage them to not make the same mistake ancient Israel did.
As I tell my boys, “it’s good to learn from your own mistakes, it’s even better to learn from someone else’s.”
Each and every one of our students has their own light to shine, their own unique contribution to make, so that our school can be a better, brighter, place.
So, I challenged them to not just try to be like anyone else - as all the other roles are already taken - to not just hide away, but to shine the light that God has given to each and everyone of them.
For our world can be a dark place, so we should all shine our light, so that it may become brighter!
As the prologue to John’s Gospel so powerfully states; ‘In him (that is, in Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’
Blessings,

United, Inspiring and Perseverant: Our Journey into Year 12
As we approach the beginning of Year 12, we are presented with an exciting opportunity to reflect on the leaders we want to become, the culture we hope to create and the legacy we wish to leave behind.
Recently, we had the privilege of attending a leadership day, where we were inspired by the Character Builders and their message about the importance of character, connection and leading with purpose. The day encouraged us to look beyond leadership as simply holding a badged position, recognising that true leadership is demonstrated through the way we connect with, and empower others.
As we prepare to step into our final year of school, we have chosen three values to guide us: United, Inspiring and Perseverant.
To be United is to recognise that Year 12 is not an individual journey, but a collective one. We each bring different strengths, perspectives and experiences, and it is through supporting one another that we can create a stronger year group. Whether it is celebrating each other's achievements, offering academic encouragement or simply showing up for one another, our aim is to come together as a strong, memorable cohort.
To be Inspiring is to lead by example. We hope to encourage those around us to embrace opportunities, step outside their comfort zones and recognise their own potential. Leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room, but about using our voices and actions to make a positive difference.
Finally, to be Perseverant is to approach challenges with determination, resilience and a willingness to keep moving forward. Year 12 will undoubtedly bring moments of pressure, uncertainty and hard work, but it is important that we remain committed to our goals and continue to encourage one another along the way.
The leadership days reminded us that the legacy we leave behind is not defined solely by our achievements, but by the people we become and inspire others to be. As we enter our final year, we hope to embody these values in everything we do, creating a year group that encourages other cohorts to do the same.

Round Square Show and Tell - Celebrating Birthdays Around the World
Seven of our Year 3 High Potential Learner students had the opportunity this week to participate in a Round Square Show and Tell session, exploring the theme ‘How We Celebrate Our Birthdays’.
Round Square is a global network of schools that connects students from around the world, providing valuable opportunities to collaborate, share experiences and develop an understanding and appreciation of different cultures.
Our students proudly shared how birthdays are celebrated in Australia and had the opportunity to listen to and ask questions of students from countries including India, China and Malaysia. Through these meaningful exchanges, they gained insights into different birthday traditions and celebrations, broadening their cultural understanding and appreciation of diversity.
This learning experience encouraged students to develop their communication and presentation skills, practise active listening, and recognise both the similarities and differences between cultures. It also provided a meaningful opportunity to broaden their perspectives, build intercultural understanding and develop a sense of global citizenship.
We congratulate our Year 3 representatives for their confidence, curiosity and enthusiasm in representing Lindisfarne and embracing this wonderful global learning opportunity!

Caring for Country: From Market Stalls to Animal Homes
Our Caring for Country initiative continues to turn small acts of care into meaningful opportunities for our students to support the environment and our local community.
Held at the end of each term, our Caring for Country Markets bring together creativity, sustainability and community spirit. During weekly lunchtime craft sessions, students and teachers work together to make items to sell, alongside produce and creations from our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The money raised supports local Indigenous charities, Fingal Coastcare, homes for wildlife and other local initiatives that care for Country.
We are delighted that funds raised through the markets have helped purchase new animal homes, which have now been installed in trees across the Junior School campus. Local arborists put their climbing skills to work, carefully carrying and securing the homes high in the trees. We thank them for helping bring this project to life.

These homes provide additional shelter for local wildlife and create wonderful opportunities for students to observe, wonder and learn about the animals that share our school grounds. We look forward to keeping a gentle watch for signs of new residents!
For our students, this is a practical example of how their efforts can make a difference. A handmade item, a piece of garden produce or a purchase at a market can contribute to a home for wildlife.
Our next Caring for Country Market will be a Christmas Market on Thursday, 26 November. We invite our school community to join us for some festive shopping while supporting our ongoing efforts to care for Country.
Thank you to the students, staff and families who create, grow, donate and shop at our markets. Together, we are helping children develop a lasting connection to Bundjalung Country and an understanding that caring for the places we share is something we can all take part in.

Middle School
From the Head of Middle School
This week, our Year 8 students were formally welcomed into Senior School at the Year 8 into Year 9 Transition Service, marking an important step towards the next phase of their schooling at Lindisfarne.
The service also gave us the opportunity, as a Middle School, to acknowledge the contribution our Year 8 students have made to our community and to thank them for all they have brought to Middle School during their time with us. We wish them every success as they move into Senior School next year.
As part of the service, students were welcomed by their Head of House and presented with their Senior School House badge. While students have belonged to their Houses since joining Lindisfarne, the House structure takes on greater significance in Senior School, forming the basis of their Tutor Groups and pastoral care arrangements for the remainder of their schooling. Heads of House assume the responsibilities previously undertaken by Year Level Coordinators in Middle School, providing an important point of connection and support for students and families.
Our Heads of House are Mr Ryan Murphy (St Andrew), Mrs Kelly Bedford (St Barnabas), Mr John Cadman (St Cuthbert), Mrs Cathy Myers (St Stephen), Mrs Elissa Periott (St Hilda) and Mr Nathan Alterator (St Margaret).
Stage 3 Showcase: Voices of the Wild
Next week, our Year 5 and 6 students will perform Voices of the Wild, our Stage 3 Showcase, on Wednesday, 11 November.
Students have been rehearsing throughout the semester. There is always something special about seeing students perform, particularly those who may be stepping outside their comfort zone or discovering a confidence we may not always see in the classroom. I know our students are looking forward to sharing the results of their hard work with family and friends.
I warmly encourage families and friends to join us in Ngahriyah for either the matinee performance at 11.30 am (NSW) or the evening performance at 6.30 pm (NSW). Tickets are complimentary, and families are asked to confirm their attendance here by Monday, 9 November to assist with seating arrangements.
My thanks to the staff who have worked alongside our students in preparing for the Showcase. I look forward to seeing everyone enjoy what our students have been working towards.

Draw To Remember and Local RSL Visit
This morning, some of our Stage 3 students took part in the RSL’s Draw to Remember initiative! We were honoured to welcome Roy Phillips from the Coolangatta Tweed RSL Sub-Branch, who visited our school to meet with the students.

The children proudly presented their artwork and shared their thoughts on remembrance with Mr. Phillips. It was a wonderful, meaningful opportunity for our students to connect with our local veteran community and showcase their creative efforts.

Thank you to Roy Phillips and the Coolangatta Tweed RSL Sub-Branch for spending time with our Middle School students today!

A recent article about Trinity Grammar’s decision to restrict smartphone use for younger students caught my attention. It reflects a conversation many schools and families are having - how do we ensure technology helps young people learn?
There has been plenty of discussion lately about NAPLAN results, screen time and the growing use of AI. The latest NAPLAN results were broadly stable overall. Numeracy improved in some year groups, while reading scores fell in others. It seems that Year 5 students will return to pen-and-paper NAPLAN writing from 2028. These decisions don’t give us simple answers, but they do remind us to keep asking what helps students learn well.
As an Apple Distinguished School, we have invested significantly in technology. We value what it can bring to learning, and that commitment remains. At the same time, a device is useful when it serves a clear purpose. Students still need time to read, write and work through an idea for themselves. Technology literacy should support that learning, not replace it.
I think about this particularly when it comes to AI - an issue I have addressed in the newsletter previously. AI can help explore an idea or get feedback. But if it does the thinking or writing a student needs to practise, they miss the learning that comes from doing the work themselves. We need to help students make good choices about when these tools help, and when to close the screen and keep going on their own.
Phones raise similar questions. They help families stay connected, and I understand the reassurance that brings. Yet it can be hard to switch off the pull of a phone, even when we want to focus on the people around us. Clear expectations at school and at home help young people find that balance.
No single approach will suit every family. But it is worth pausing to ask whether our use of technology is helping our young people learn and feel well. We are not walking away from technology. We are working out how to use it well. Moderation in all things feels like a sensible place to start.

Lindisfarne Students Shine at the Murwillumbah Show
Over the weekend, a number of talented Lindisfarne students from Preschool through to Year 10 showcased their creativity in the Fine Arts sections of the Murwillumbah Show.
Our students achieved some outstanding results across the Painting and Drawing categories, with numerous prizes and Highly Commended awards received. It was wonderful to see the calibre of Lindisfarne student artwork recognised, with extremely positive feedback from members of the public who viewed the exhibition.
Congratulations to all students who entered, and particularly to the following award recipients:
Fine Art Awards
8–12 Years – Painting
1st Prize: Ally McKiernan
Under 18 – Painting
Overall Section Champion: Sofia Underwood
1st Prize: Sofia Underwood
2nd Prize: Willow Duggan
3rd Prize: Vivienne Gunther
Highly Commended: Racquel Pearson
Under 18 – Drawing
2nd Prize: Jasmine Cooke
3rd Prize: Clarence Barwick
Highly Commended: Anouk Schleuter
Lindisfarne also entered the Show's Scarecrow Competition, with students and staff from Creative Industries creating a colourful Yayoi Kusama-inspired scarecrow as a tribute to the renowned artist following her passing earlier this year. Drawing on Kusama's instantly recognisable use of pattern, repetition and bold colour, the scarecrow provided a playful celebration of her extraordinary contribution to contemporary art.
Alongside the competition entries, the Creative Industries Faculty curated a Lindisfarne display featuring a selection of outstanding student work from Years 5 to 10. The display provided a wonderful opportunity to share the creativity, skill and diversity of work being produced by our students with the wider community.
Congratulations to every student who contributed artwork to this year's Murwillumbah Show. Following the fantastic results and community response in 2026, we are already looking forward to seeing what our young artists create for the 2027 Show!

Touch Football QPAS (Primary) Years 3-6
What an incredible weekend of Touch Football for our Lindisfarne teams at the Queensland Primary All Schools Championships!
Our U12 Girls produced an outstanding performance, securing a place in the Top 16 Championship Division and finishing 9th overall in the state! This is an incredible achievement and one we are so incredibly proud of. Their result is a reflection of the commitment, determination and hard work they have put in throughout the entire year. To see their efforts rewarded on the state stage is something special, and every player should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished.
Coaches Award: Storm Lucas
Players Player Award: Spencer Martin
Our U12 Boys team also enjoyed a fantastic weekend, progressing through to the Division 3 finals before ultimately claiming victory in the Plate Division! Across the weekend, the boys played an incredible 9 games and, under some pretty extraordinary circumstances, demonstrated what it truly means to show resilience, determination and fight for one another. Their ability to dig deep, stay together and keep pushing through adversity to secure the win was a fantastic reflection of their character and work together as a team throughout the year.
Coaches Award: Bonnie Pollard
Players Player Award: Harper Kelly
Both teams represented Lindisfarne with tremendous pride, sportsmanship and school spirit. We are incredibly proud of every player and the way they conducted themselves throughout the championships. A huge congratulations to both teams on a memorable weekend and a fantastic way to showcase the growth of our Touch Football program. A big thank you also goes to the coaches, staff and families who supported the teams and helped make these opportunities possible.

Cricket Douglas Shield – Round 1: Lindisfarne v Emmanuel Anglican College
Lindisfarne opened their Douglas Shield campaign with a first-round encounter against Emmanuel Anglican College at Ballina. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Lindisfarne produced an excellent display with the ball and in the field, restricting Emmanuel to just 78 runs.
Coby Ellison was outstanding, claiming 4/23 from his eight overs, while Kade Wood provided excellent support with 2/8. Behind the stumps, Tom O’Brien also had an impressive outing, taking two catches and completing a stumping in a very tidy performance.
Unfortunately, Lindisfarne were unable to carry that momentum into the batting innings. After losing a couple of early wickets to an excellent spell of fast bowling from the Emmanuel opening attack, the side struggled to settle and build partnerships. Some questionable shot selection and a lack of patience resulted in wickets falling at regular intervals, with Lindisfarne eventually dismissed for 65, falling just 13 runs short of the target.
Fletcher Bisgrove top-scored with 20, while Tom O’Brien contributed 10 in what proved to be a difficult batting performance.
It was a disappointing result following such a promising start with the ball, but there are plenty of positives to take away and important lessons to learn. With a number of players still eligible to return next season, the group will be looking to build on this experience, address the areas for improvement and push further into the competition in the years ahead.
Spotlight on Isabel Wescher
A huge congratulations to Isabel Wescher on winning her recent aerial silks competition in Brisbane. Her top-place finish has earned her a spot at the National Championships in January.

Spotlight on Isa and Sofie Soenen
Year 10 students Isa and Sofie Soenen represented Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School, the region, and Australia at the World Triathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.
"Our participation in the World Triathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, on 24 September 2026, was an unforgettable experience. The evening before the race, we took part in the Parade of Nations through the historic streets of Pontevedra. Each participating country proudly represented its athletes with music, dancing and incredible energy. The atmosphere was electric and truly breathtaking.
Race day brought its own challenges and excitement. The triathlon began with a mass start in the Lérez River, followed by a swim against the current. After a long transition, finding our bikes among 1,600 others was an achievement in itself! The bike course then took us on a challenging 10-kilometre uphill climb, with windy conditions adding to the difficulty, before rewarding us with an exhilarating descent reaching speeds of up to 65 km/h. The final leg was a beautiful run through the historic city centre of Pontevedra. The course included two climbs up to Plaza de la Herrería before finishing in the famous Pontevedra athletics stadium.
Competing in the Under-19 age group, despite being only 15 years old, we finished in 31st and 36th positions. An achievement to be incredibly proud of! Seeing athletes from all over the world come together to compete was an extraordinary experience and a wonderful reminder of how like-minded athletes push each other to the limit. It was a truly proud moment to represent Australia, wear the green and gold, and cross the finish line at the World Triathlon Championships.
But the racing didn't stop there! Less than seven days after returning home to Australia, we were back on the start line of the Pottsville Beach Triathlon to qualify for the World Championships 2027 in Hamburg, Germany. Despite exceptionally wet and challenging conditions, we finished 3rd and 4th. And just one week later, we drove to Sydney to participate in the NSW All Schools Triathlon. All these achievements, including the challenges of travel and preparations, added valuable experience to be able to peak at a targeted international event

LTV Live New Episode
This week on LTV Live, we take a closer look at the challenges of a school growing like ours. Digital Media students Anouk Schlueter and Maya Stokes bring us their report on what happens when new buildings and developments reshape the campus, and in particular the loss of green space that comes with them.
We also celebrate Evie Nowland, whose film has made the finals of the BUFTA Student Film Awards. If you haven't already, please vote for her film Dear Lillian HERE in the People's Choice category. Evie’s success is a wonderful example of the creativity and talent across our school community.

Lindisfarne Business Network
We invite you to partner with us: Join the 2027 Lindisfarne Business Network
Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School has always valued its connection with the community. As a growing school in the region, we have been deeply supported by our families and local businesses, support that has helped shape the Lindisfarne story and strengthened our ability to deliver meaningful outcomes for our students.
Moving into its sixth year, the Lindisfarne Business Network was established to build on this foundation and to create a purposeful space where business leaders can connect, collaborate, and contribute more directly to the life of the School. Through a dedicated annual program, including our networking events, we showcase outstanding speakers, develop meaningful professional relationships, and strengthen partnerships between Network members and the wider community.
2027 Sponsorship Benefits:
Brand Visibility: Showcase your organisation to an engaged audience of local families, staff, alumni and other regional business owners
Exclusive Events: Attend curated networking sessions featuring inspiring guest speakers.
Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with fellow professionals to strengthen business and community ties across the region.
We invite all interested businesses and individuals to partner with us.
Sponsorship opportunities are available across a range of tiers, and we are grateful for every level of involvement. To formalise your support, please refer to the Lindisfarne Business Network Expression of Interest formHERE.
Lindisfarne Business Directory: Support Local, Stay Connected
Lindisfarne Business Directory: Support Local, Stay Connected
We are proud to present the Lindisfarne Business Directory, a key initiative of the Lindisfarne Business Network designed to connect local leaders, foster collaboration and support our regional economy.
Our school thrives on the strength of its surrounding network and this new platform connects our families, local businesses and regional services. Created to benefit everyone, the Lindisfarne Business Directory provides a curated resource for our families, staff, alumni and members of the surrounding community to intentionally "shop local" and support the businesses that champion our school. Whether you are looking for trusted trade services, professional consulting, healthcare providers, or local retail, the directory makes finding community businesses easier than ever.
For business owners, it offers a highly visible platform to showcase your products and services directly to thousands of engaged families across the southern Gold Coast, Tweed Coast and northern New South Wales region. We invite members of our school community to explore the Business Directory, make it your first stop when looking for local services and intentionally get behind the businesses that generously support our school.
You can explore the digital directory anytime via LINK and a printed copy was sent home via your child to each Lindisfarne family last week.
We are already planning for the 2027/2028 Lindisfarne Business Directory. If you are interested in featuring your business, we invite you to complete our Expression of Interest (EOI) form here to learn more and join our growing directory.
Thank you for supporting the school and local region as we work together in continuing to build a strong, interconnected Lindisfarne community.
